John, you missed a chance to reach into your back catalog and pull out that "can paper cut wood" paper tablesaw blade of yours and use it to cut the cardboard on your tablesaw... 😆

I work in auto parts and Cardboard sliding bins are used in many locations and hold up for a long time .. and they get used and abused a lot more than one someone would have in their home - you can also reinforce the cardboard connections with Toothpicks

When I was a kid, say 6 to 8 years old. I was happy with just a roll of tape cardboard boxes and some girthy scissors. I made windows by sticking cellotape back to back. My Granny had a big grandfather clock in her hallway for years. I made a Tardis time machine. A front loading washing machine for my sister. A space ship like Dr snuggles. My main regret is I didn't make paypal. But I do however have all my original hair. Well original hair roots.

Cardboard working was how we used to have fun at camp, the craft hut had a drawer of tape hot glue and a pile of cardboard for people to make whatever they could dream of

you can make some pretty incredibly strong things with cardboard and elmer's glue (PVA glue). i still use a lot of cardboard and hot glue to mock things up, or even make "finished" things that serve some purpose. cardboard, duct tape (nashua 357) and hot glue get me pretty far. laminating the cheaper amazon cardboard with pva blue can get you a pretty strong almost micarta style material

I hope that screwdriver set does well for you. If I had the cash, I would own a set for sure. I commented on the other vid that this project meets my current needs really really well and I appreciate it. I don't know why in all of my thinking about building a set of drawers for my shop that I didn't consider cardboard, but I didn't until seeing this vid lol. In terms of longevity, I have a set of cardboard drawers that I picked up in the early 2000s. These are 6 ft tall with the drawers being half 3"x8"x14" and the other half being the same but double depth, so 6" deep or so. It's been sitting in a semi enclosed outbuilding down at Moms, in the southeast US, without any kind of HVAC for 15 years. It's packed full full of heavy crap and doing just fine.

it was pretty simple to made after first one , copy the shape to work as a template to cut from cardboard boxes , then glue with hot glue gun
still use them without issues and its been almost 15 years 😃😃😃😃

I’m assuming your shop is well insulated and sealed up to cope with the cold weather. So when you vent the dust collector outside will this cause some negative pressure in your shop and possible cavitation. To overcome this you could vent the shop to the outside but this would allow cold air from the outside to drafts in. So I’m guessing if you move the dust collector to the shed you would have return air back to the shop. Sorry John if I have misunderstood what you talked about, I could be totally wrong here.

This sounds like a good way to use up partial cans of varnish and paint and not worry that the cardboard is sucking up so much. You could also use up any old glue that is sitting around approaching the end of its shelf life. Great idea

John, some day try getting some depron. They sell it in lots of different thicknesses... I use it a lot to build rc stuff.

This is my observation. The new generation seem to insanely underestimate it's own capabilities. Majority of them.
So simple projects - from 2012 era - seem like impossible feats of genius magic to the people of 2022. They wouldn't even try or bother attempting something so unreachable.
May be easy projects are the answer? Or innovative but simple things?

I like this a lot because people who aren't woodworkers can still build this! I'm thinking of people who have like a 3D printer and soldering iron at home, and not much else. A lot of people 3D print drawers like this, but that's slow, and frankly, why not build it out of cardboard that would otherwise be waste?
