Flawless Steve Erwin accent, and I should know, I'm Australian. (its actually terrible except some words you nail like bark, dirt, primer and oven, but at least its funny)
Absolutely love this sh!t. I enjoy your podcast and I've just started watching your channel I really get a big kick out of it. Thanks for sharing and bringing a moment of joy into a very confusing time. Right now more than ever we need people like you to remind us to laugh and get joy out of the small things.
I don't have enough good things to say about this video. One tip you gave that I have been using recently was just looking at the world through the lens of miniature painting. Out on some dirt road behind a junkyard taking pictures of some gnarly rust between two cars that a tree had fallen on and smashed together. Guy from the junkyard thinks I'm taking the pictures because one of the cars was "classic." I told him, "Nope. Just the moss growing out of the rust caught my eye, might use it for a mini." What I assume was his little brother punches him on the arm and says, See! It was only then I noticed that the bottom car was a Chevelle.
Thanks for all the hard work, John! Please keep it up. I watched "71 models - 1 Weekend" about 10 times and counting. I know I will be rewatching this one too!
The constant shifting between Australian and Southern Gentleman was hilarious 😆. Cause you know... Aussies are well known for the slang word: ”ain’t”. Loved the vid, Jon.
I'd say ain't is common enough over here. Australian's seem to take any chance they can to mutilate words down as much as possible. "Dunno" why stuff like McDonald's becomes Maccas though.
Three things I really appreciated: 1. the ink/acrylic highlighting; 2. the Realistic Water; & 3. the out-of-the-park Jimmy Stewart (The Early Years) patter outdoors ... like he was in the room! 🤠
This inspired me so much and I’m going to be trying to do all the bases for one of my projects entirely from foraged materials, for a bunch of stuff from the garden drying out by the radiator now!
Love your content, so happy you are in the UA-cam Community! Keep it coming! Also I will try to do the accent as it is clearly the most important piece when basing! :)
Usually wise to oven dry natural materials for a bit before using them. Just need to pop 'em in at 250 for 20-30 mins, get some of the moisture of out them that might cause paint peeling later, and kill off any little critters that'd promote mold or other probs.
Oh my it's a new video with premium JON content, the perfect way to kickstart a weekend, cruising here after Scott's stream. What a time to be alive. Wonderful vid as always, thanks Jon!
I made all of my old wood elf army bases out of a few ground up fall color leaves and some tree trimmings and small roots that came from my parents house. They are painted fall colors too mostly red and orange with bits of yellows and browns.
I really love that moss base. To me, prior to painting, it looked perfect for the edge of a creek in a far off forest, but I think it turned out better with how you painted it. Well done!
Nice demo. The part that always stops me from doing super-fancy bases like this, with lots of organic material, though, is I'm not sure how to reliably attach the figure to the finished base. I'm used to attaching the figure's feet directly to the plastic of the base, and then adding texture around the feet (usually with Uncle Atom's super-glue-baking-soda-kitty-litter plan). I'm always afraid that if I glue the feet to bark, moss, or even cork, eventually it's going to pull off on the game table. Love to see you follow this video up with one in which you show how you attach figures reliably to these bases, so that they can be used in a miniatures game with confidence.
Just went on a hike yesterday and didn’t even think of this! Wonderful idea and can’t wait to see what I can come up with. I’ve got 3 Kenku brothers just waiting for a nice diorama base
Love what you did! I am always scared of doing basing, as i thought it need a lot of things to work, but now i see it can be done without expending too much. Thanks! please continue doing this kind of videos, also using products , or at least essential products for basing
Again great content! I think it's worth noting that you don't have to paint them! You can find things outside and make a cool base that has a woodland theme by just putting together twigs and rocks!
I'm not sure pointing down when you ask if we like what we see is going to be interpreted the way you intended by some people, lol. Great video!! Practical and easy!
Really love your work! You got me back into this Madness late February, 2021 after a hiatus since June, 1989. Terminators, Genestealers, Terminators and Harlequin were new. Thank you for all that you do.
Great idea recommending getting outside! I've been an 'outdoorsy type' since forever, but adding miniatures to my life again has really filled a little void i was unaware existed. 😂 It's really great to return to the hobby now i'm in my thirties, and approach things with more knowledge. I was about twelve last time i bought miniatures. Haa! Best wishes from UK. 🤝👍
Another awesome video Jon. So stoked about this channel. Also love seeing the personality and humor come out a bit. Solid mix of funny and educational.
Im about to work on a scenic base and your recommendation to use Inks to paint it and preserve the zenthial highlight was an absolute light bulb moment! will definitely follow your advice!
Wicked, thanks man, we need these reminders that we're surrounded by usable basing items that are natural and free, almost any tiny dried thing looks naughty on a base ^^ simple things is sometimes the best things, keep smiling :)
An added benefit of foraging for basing materials is that it's super easy to add adjacent hobbies like taxonomy and botany. My partner will look at my foraging haul and say stuff like, "Oh, you found some of this plant!" I've gotten into trying to learn what the plants around me are during my exploration, and it's added quite a lot to satiate my curious mind
That unholy mix of accents cleared my mind of stress, lol. The bases look great! I live in an apartment and my cupboards have already been scavenged beyond recognition for hobby materials. Next will be my apartment complex' shared compost heap! :D
Ah my man this is awesome! I've been wanting to learn more about this and boom here we go. Great content and super helpful! Can't wait to see more creative videos from you. *Tips Hat* Well done Sir
As a former Corporate Videographer/Editor, I can always spot a fellow formal Industrial Video guy by their choice of music bed. Also: Nice Job. Also: You've spent too much time with Vincey-V. "Look! Total realism from real organic materials! We could stop there, but of course we're going to effing PRIME them and repaint them to look like real organic basing materials." Also: Nice job.
This is your best video yet! The effort you put into the videos is really showing through. I am in love with the color pallet of the second, mossy base. Do you recall which color inks you used for the pallet? It’s super inspiring.
Love the video, as an Aussie this was hilariously amusing as it reflects one of the stereotypes everyone typically thinks of, but you did miss a battle with some form of venomous spider/insect/plant/snake/drop bear which was trying to kill you ;)
“How to do 7 accents in 1 sentence”
Unfortunately accurate..
Why is that unfortunate, do you know how difficult it was to pull off this feat?! 😂
Sounds to me like 1 part Paul Hogan and 1 part Colonel Angus.
@@Ninjon it's always hard to talk around a mouth full of marbels!
Better than Karl Urban
Flawless Steve Erwin accent, and I should know, I'm Australian.
(its actually terrible except some words you nail like bark, dirt, primer and oven, but at least its funny)
It’s really hard to get it right off script and frolicking through the woods 😂
It was flawless, if Steve Irwin was actually Scottish and not Aussie. 😂
Those Minnesotan Os in the middle of the fake Australian accent is honestly great
A for effort, Fosters for execution
@@Ninjon A nice Bostonian/Australian.
Aussie here, that was the most horrible butchering of our accent I've ever heard.
Please do all future videos in it.
LOL!
Us Minnesotans give it our best good sir.
I second this. It's as bad as the Simpsons attempt 😂
he is aiming for aussie but hitting louisianan more often than not XD
Can smell the passion you put into the vids seems like your having a great time. lovely aproach, can't wait for the next one.
I had forgotten he had dressed up for this, hehe passion indeed :)
haha omg 'Hey Neighbor' while holding an axe and a machete!
Yes, that was hilarious at the end.
I feel I should put a disclaimer for you here: If you have to go the city park route, maybe don't take a machete and hatched with you XD
Absolutely love this sh!t. I enjoy your podcast and I've just started watching your channel I really get a big kick out of it. Thanks for sharing and bringing a moment of joy into a very confusing time. Right now more than ever we need people like you to remind us to laugh and get joy out of the small things.

Great ideas! Dramatic basing terrain. What I did not see was what you use as the actual "base" to glue all the cool stuff onto.
love the back and forth from fake aussie to southern American to straight up texan
Wow, your accent is perfect, like an old-timey bushranger detective. 10/10
How do I apply for that job, Trent???
Of course it makes sense that Jon owns that specific outfit...
Just last week I painted up a unit of Seraphon Warriors using bark. really loved the way they turned out. Once you go bark you never go back.
The constant shifting between Australian and Southern Gentleman was hilarious 😆. Cause you know... Aussies are well known for the slang word: ”ain’t”. Loved the vid, Jon.

just being curious do you mean 250 °C or F? Sorry for asking in the comments but I realy don't find anything online
@@wretchedegg5170 Oh sorry, I'm in the US, so 250F, real low-temp oven.

This is my new favorite mini painting video.
I really love that moss base. To me, prior to painting, it looked perfect for the edge of a creek in a far off forest, but I think it turned out better with how you painted it. Well done!
bases LETS GO!
This Bark is a beautiful Bark. Love it 😆 Thanks for the ideas.

As an Australian I can say with complete respect that your impression has left me only mildly confused, but endlessly entertained XD
Hello, it's free, easy and the result is amazing. Thanks a lot for the ideas. Have a good day
Awesome basing tips! And even better bits and bloopers. Good stuff.
40% Southern drawl mixed with 50% Australian accent with 10% Minnisotan lol loved it. You crack me up man, keep it coming.👍🇺🇸👍

The Accent during the bark conversation starts Aussie but quickly drifts to Pepperidge Farms guy.
This video is gold. Respect for the accent, Australian is the coolest!

Helpful, cheers. Plus so many quality accents!
Looking forward to hearing more about those nocturna paints. Really enjoying your channel so far
Tip for stuck super glue fingers is really hot water though sometimes you'll have to let it soak.
