Sita Devi Maharani of Baroda Ki Kahani - Podcast with Nasir Baig

Sita Devi Maharani of Baroda, born in 1917, was a member of the royal family of Baroda. She was renowned for her impeccable sense of style and was often referred to as one of the best-dressed women in the world. Sita Devi was not only a fashion icon but also a trailblazer in the realm of philanthropy, dedicating herself to various charitable causes throughout her life.
Sita Devi was the sole child of the Maharaja of Pithapuram and Sri Rani Chinnamamba Devi and was born in 1917. Pithapuram was a significant principality at the time in the Madras Presidency. Sita Devi married Mekka Appa Rao Vuyyuru’s affluent Zamindar, who possessed considerable amounts of land. They were parents to a boy. She was the Princess Consort of Vuyyuru from 1935-1943.
She met the last ruling king of Gaekwad in a horse race and after being married to Mekka Appa Rao for 8 years she decided to wed the last king of Gaekwad, Pratap Singh.
They were unable to solemnise their marriage because Sita Devi was already married. Therefore, Sita Devi had to first convert to Islam, end her current marriage, then return to Hinduism before marrying the Maharaja, according to the law. She became the Maharani Sita Devi of Baroda in 1946 after they acted on this advise.
Sita Devi passed away at the age of 71 due to natural causes inscribing her name in history as the princess who broke all the boundaries for love.
Fashion Icon: Princess Sita Devi was a trendsetter in the world of fashion, known for her impeccable taste and extravagant wardrobe.
Philanthropy: Despite her lavish lifestyle, Princess Sita Devi was also involved in various charitable activities, supporting causes such as education and healthcare.
Controversies: The Maharani was embroiled in several controversies, including her divorce from the Maharaja of Baroda and legal battles over her inheritance.
Legacy: Princess Sita Devi's legacy continues to inspire many, with her iconic style and philanthropic efforts remembered to this day.

I do not know anything about this piece of history but I may something; i.e. that till the passing of the Hindu Marriage Act 1955, there was no bar on any number of marriages by a male and therefore many Mahrajas and zimidars had more than one wife, even 4 or more. After 1955 only one marriage is legally permissible

No doubt at the time Nawab of Hyderabad was tge wealthiest but tye princely state of BARODA was no less. The Gaekwads were very influential and old money.
Sira Devi was a wife of jagirdar who later married a Gaekwad king. But hers was a sad story. She n her son princy squandered and blew wealth. She rubbed shoulders with the European wealthy. Later Princy suffered depression n alcoholism, died. She died of heartbreak after losing her son in Paris. Also the Gaekwad divorced her after d BARODA necklace went missing.
