The bouncer in the game, Herbie, was modeled after their former manager Herbie Herbert, who passed away last year after a long illness. There's no question Journey would have made it just fine with one of the world's best guitarists and singers, but Herbie made Journey who they were with his business decisions. Whether or not the game was good, it was still a good idea, and his innovations in concert lighting and video are still used today. He had the ability to see miles ahead where other managers couldn't see beyond the next concert venue.

@Sub if you are against Antifa and BLM Yeah, but somehow I doubt that the real life Journey were always "fighting off groupies" as in the game, especially the hot female ones! Most bands of the 70s and 80s were very "groupie-friendly" in that regard. Maybe they should've made the game more realistic, by having "Herbie" sort through the groupies and escort the sexiest ones backstage!

Let me know when Eric Clapton or Carlos Santana comes to "insert your favorite guitarist here" when they are 15 years old and asks them to join their band like they both did with Schon. You'd think two of the most respected guitarist in rock music would want the best with them on stage, and would know it when they heard it.
As for Perry, like him or not, he didn't call himself "The Voice." That name was given to him by Jon Bon Jovi and music critics, publications, as well as other artists agreed.
Brian May of Queen has said of Perry “in my opinion a voice in a million.” Something tells me May would know a bit about being around some of the best singers.
I don't need to post any more bona fides here when it is so easy to look up what most people already know.

I had Journey Escape for my Atari 2600 When I was a kid. I remember finding a booth at an outdoor flea market that had tons of them for $5 each. I had to buy one and I played if for hours. I didn't even know who Journey was until I bought the game. I still love the band!!

Their are a few out there, but finding one with the working casette player is hit or miss (the game has an actual tape player inside that kicks on at the bonus level and plays "Seperate Ways" off a tape loop). There are some videos on UA-cam that show guys working on them. I think this game was the only one to have that setup.

There is a game room hidden away up north Michigan at a strip hotel across the bridge in st Ignace. That has the arcade cabinet journey game. I remember playing it in the 90s growing up . We would always stop and stay at this hotel on the way up farther north to visit relatives every summer.. I always went to the arcade room to play the journey game.. this was 25-30 years ago.. recently me and my family decided it would be fun to make the trek one summer. We of course stopped for the night rest up for the next 4-5 hour trip to get to the keweenaw peninsula.. of course I went to the game room with my kids hoping the old journey game would be there along with some pinball machines and a pool table. It would be a blast from the past. So of course I was not holding my breath lol we walked over and to my surprise and amazement I had heard the music from the arcade machine while we were still about 20ft away from the door!!!!! What a nostalgic blast from the past! I got to experience it again and. I got to. Show my kids a piece of my childhood.. that reminded me strongly of traveling up here in my own childhood. When I heard on here that they think there is only one working cabinet of it in the whole USA.,,lol and behold I know where one is and it plays beautifully!!!

"Complete disaster" seems too strong a term in either game's case.
_Journey Escape_ [1982; Data Age; Atari 2600 VCS] was probably the only hit Data Age ever produced, in part probably because of a massive ad campaign. The timing was terrible, though. The Home-Gaming Console Video-Game Crash of '83 was on the horizon, and that probably had more to do with Data Age folding than their Journey game.
_Journey_ [1983; Bally/Midway; arcade coin-op] was, as aforementioned, a modest success. But more significantly, particularly in retrospect, the _Journey_ arcade game introduced _digitized video,_ a very important and indispensable technological advancement.
    "Disastrous"? No, not really.

For shits and giggles I looked up how much Steve Perry was worth since every album Journey put out went Double Platinum at least and it said 70 million. And under that was another question that read "Which member of Journey is the richest" and the answer was Neal Shon with 40 million. You can understand my confusion, so I learned something from this. Google is a liar. 😂

Neal owns more publishing and the major holder of the the brand name. AND continues to tour well after Steve stopped...to this day. So, no, Google is right

I loved those games; actually found the ‘Don’t Stop Believin’’ theme from the game as a ringtone. And you could tell that the arcade game was programmed by the same people who did Tron.

Journey actually did a couple of songs for the Tron soundtrack. It makes sense.
