  • Captain John Hallett, 30, was on his way back to base near Sha Wali Kot, Afghanistan, on August 25, 2009, having delivered medicine to a village in southern Afghanistan suffering from an outbreak of cholera, when the vehicle in which he was traveling, struck an improvised explosive device killing Hallett and the three soldiers who accompanied him.
Born in Concord, California, near San Francisco, Hallett grew up knowing he would attend West Point and make the military his career. Always the volunteer, Hallett spent one of his high school spring breaks traveling to Mexico and building houses for Habitat for Humanity. There he was reintroduced to Lisa Garner, whom he had met in elementary school. After Hallett graduated from West Point in 2001, he finished training in Fort Benning, GA and was assigned to Schofield Barracks in Hawaii.
In January of 2004, just three weeks following Hallett and Lisa's wedding, Hallett shipped out to begin a 13-month tour of duty in Iraq, and was stationed in Georgia, Louisiana and then finally Washington. Along the way, Lisa and John welcomed two sons, Jackson and Bryce. Three weeks before his death, Lisa gave birth to the couple's third child, Heidi, who Hallett never met. Shortly after Hallett's death, the Army released a statement by Lisa from their home in DuPont, WA. "Captain John Louis Hallett, III was an amazing father and a devoted and joyful husband who always put the needs of others above his own. He had the warmest and most genuine smile. John would always make people laugh by his clever ways and kind humor and his amazing example and memories will live on and guide his three children," she said. "He was very passionate about what he did for the military, but he wasn't a blow-it-up kind of guy. He wanted to work with communities and...try to make Afghanistan a better place to live." As her husband's legacy and in accordance with their prior discussions, Lisa has launched a non-profit, Wear Blue: Run to Remember, for which she serves as CEO.
All three Hallett children have been awarded Future Use Scholarships from Folds of Honor. Jackson and Bryce are also recipients of the Children's Scholarship Fund.

As a junior officer in the Navy aboard a deployed ship, and also while stationed at an overseas base, I had to notify sailors under my command of the deaths of their family members -- sort of the inverse of this, but probably the worst part of my duties

It hurts me bad to know SOOO much about what goes on behind the scenes in American political dynamics and covert ops and how truly evil we have become on such a deep level. I say this because I have to attach the reality of real people all our lies are destroying like Capt. Hallet and his family. He did not have to die. Everything I know churns my guts up and the forward wash of ignorance for most American people is so disturbing to me. I am sorry for all the Hallet family lost for lies. I always wonder why am I alive and they are not. I don;t thing there is any logical answer in an illogical world.

You sound very hateful. First most Americans are ignorant? What about the continent? the world? Your family? You? Are you one of the most ignorant? Be sensitive to others in your declarations! Especially when people mourn and remenber there brothers and sisters. Chose a time to express your viewpoints, when they are constructive thought provoking and inform those around you of a more positive approach. If you believe in goodness have a good day.
