Avs fan here, sending thoughts and prayers to the Blue Jackets and the Gaudreau family. Insane how in a day like today, we still have drunk drivers taking amazing people away from us. Tragic. Truly tragic.
I am an LA Kings fan, and I have a very specific memory of Johnny. It was one of my first hockey games I watched at the staple center with my brother and mom in April, 2019. We had a close game against Calgary at 2-2. Gaudreau takes a cheeky angle shot high up on Quick and scored to make it 3-2. There was another fan there saying "how could you let him score, that was soft" and I replied and said "no.. that was just an incredible shot." The flood gates opened, and my Kings ended up losing 7-2 that day but I will always remember that goal for some reason. Gaudreau was such a special player and I have always enjoyed his play. RIP to Matthew & Johnny, and condolences to their families
Kings fan as well and I ain’t gonna lie I hated to play against him because he was so got dang good, but this breaks my heart. Jonny had so much potential and we’ll never got to see it fully realized
Drunkest I’ve ever been was at a hockey game. I knew I was too gone to drive. At the end of the game I asked the staff if I gave them my plate number I’d be back by 9am to get my car but I was gonna take a Lyft home. Manager took my info and promised I wouldn’t be charged for doing the right thing. I paid $23 for a Lyft home and my roommate dropped me off to get my car in the morning. Yeah it sucked sitting drunk in the cold waiting for a Lyft but god damn it’s better than risking anything like this. I wish more people understood that. Drunk driving is a heinous crime in today’s time.
An amazing person A fantastic hockey player A great guy to have in fantasy An optimistic and joyful man A loving father and husband Rest in peace Johnny Goatdreau 🙏
I was at game 7 against dallas and I will never forget how I felt after his goal. That's a memory flames fans get to keep forever. I never liked how people spoke about him after he decided to leave, but hopefully everyone can put that aside and recognize him as one of the most talented and important flames of all time. Even if the success wasnt always there, he was the face of a new era in Calgary, the brightest one since the 04 cup run. rip Johnny Hockey
I had just yesterday watched an interview that Sean Monahan had given saying how excited he was to reunite with Gaudreau and how he wishes their kids could grow up together. Absolutely heartbreaking.
As a Jackets fan, I'm extremely thankful that Johnny chose Columbus, a team that star talent shuns and stays away from. I got to see him play one game for my birthday last year and I can't believe that will now be the only time I see him play in the union blue. And it now gives me another reason to wear the 13 on the back of my Blue Jackets jersey. Thank you Tree for reporting this with tenderness and care, and thank you Johnny Hockey for your time in the 614, you'll be deeply missed. Say hi to Matiss for us 🙏🏼😔🕊️
He was the first marquee free agent to choose Columbus too and was likely going to remain in central Ohio after his playing career would have been finished.
I'm so sorry to you and all the Jackets fans out there and Gaudreau's family, friends, and teammates. I'm a New Jersey Devils and a Calgary Flames fan (I was born and raised in NJ and have family in Calgary) and my heart hurts today. I wore my Johnny Hockey Flames jersey all day and just stared at the jersey and just couldn't process that this happened. I'll never forget his goal in Game 7 OT vs Dallas when it was going to take a miracle shot against that brick wall Oettinger to beat him and Johnny buried it. I saw all of Calgary go nuts and I was losing my mind in the basement of my North Jersey home. The New Jersey kid was the overtime hero that sent my Flames to the second round of the playoffs. That was incredible. And now he's gone..... I also get what you mean when you said Johnny chose Columbus. For a long time as a Devils fan, it felt like no marquee player would ever choose us until Hughes and Co. came along, so to see legit bonafide talent come here was an amazing feeling. I am SO SO SOOOO sorry that this was ripped away from you guys in Columbus 💔
As a die hard Stars fan, I never buy other teams jerseys. I went to a Jackets game while driving cross country earlier this year. I bought his jersey when I went there. I was proud to own it because I absolutely loved what he brought to the game, and Im even more proud to own it now. RIP Johnny Hockey.
My grandfather was killed by a drunk driver long before i was born in the 50s. My grandmother still wont go through the intersection the accident happened in. She wont even talk about it, but one of the few things she would tell me is that the hardest part wasn't that he was gone, but was having to tell her 3 children all under 6 that daddy wasnt coming home. My heart goes out to his wife, and i hope she can find a strength to make it through this horrible time.
Absolutely. Canadiens fan here, but I'm pulling for Columbus to do well this year. CBJ comes through for me in video games,so they've always kinda had a spot in my heart, and I've always felt them as "the little team that could". This is easily the saddest piece of sports news since Kobe died. It's even worse considering Johnny was 10 years younger than Kobe and had plenty of life left to give, let alone was still in the prime of his career. And on top of the fact that his sister was supposed to get married this weekend? Absolutely awful. My sincerest condolences to Johnnys family and the Blue Jackets organization.
I can’t fathom how much pain the Gaudreau family is going through right now. This is soul-crushing. RIP to the Gaudreau brothers. This just isn’t fair.

He cared so much for his family…and they deserve all the love in the world at this time. Rest in Power Johnny Hockey. We’ll never forget you.
.......This hurts.... Probably my biggest memory of this incredible hockey player was when he scored that overtime goal in Game 7 against Dallas and I visibly had nightmares of it as a Stars fan. But, I could never hate Johnny Hockey and I absolutely loved watching him play. Johnny Gaudreau was an incredible hockey player, a great leader in the sport and in life, and a genuinely incredible person most importantly.... The fact that former/current teammates are never going to see their brother-in-arms again, multiple communities lost an incredible person that helped them, his kids are never going to see their father again, a sister is about to have her wedding without her two brothers, and the fact that a woman lost her beloved is what makes me cry. He and his brother, Matthew, will rest easy and fly high forever. All my thoughts and prayers go out to the Gaudreau family and the NHL community as a whole.🕊️🕊️
I started watching Flames hockey when Johnny was a rookie. I immediately fell in love with him and his skills. I did everything to be like him, wearing 13 in sports, and eating skittles. Now it’s all gone because of one selfish act from a selfish individual. Rest easy, Johnny

@@frankdudleyjr6003 And the fact the brothers were simply riding bicycles when this happened. Not like some stupid pretentious popular entity riding a stupidly expensive car, they were riding bicycles, being relatable, good people that had much more to give to the sport, family, and society.

Love you Tree. I started tearing up when I found out that Johnny and Matthew were to be groomsmen at their sister’s wedding this weekend. Heartbreaking 💔
When you read what exactly happened, it just angers you A LOT more. Also, I find it shameful with how the reporting was done on this tragedy last night. People today like to be the first ones to make the headlines and that should NEVER happen especially in a tragedy. Thoughts and prayers to the Gaudreau family.
I pray that I never have to go through the amount of pain that the Gaudreau family has to go through right now, especially at a time that was supposed to be celebration. Never take your loved ones for granted. Cherish them whenever you can, and make sure they know it.
Thank you Tree you're one of the few people that I greatly respect and I'm just stuck with this feeling of bitterness right now over this whole thing. Two adorable kids are going to get the worst Christmas this year ever and his sister was supposed to have the happiest day of her life this weekend now has turned into the worst nightmare for anyone.
RIP Johnny and Mathew Gaudreau. All hockey fans send our prayers and best wishes out to the entire Gaudreau family. Let us all pray for them for the years to come.
As an Oilers fan I found myself cheering for Gaudreau (when he wasn't against us). I wanted him to stay in Calgary for the sake of a healthy rivalry, but when he left I had more respect for him. Not because he wasn't a rival anymore, because he put his career in a worse scenario for the betterment of his family. He was family first, which to me is the most important thing you can be. My heart breaks for his family, but I think they'll be fine. They're super tight and will emerge from this darkness inspiring and powerful. In the mean time, Johnny and Matthew are gonna tear it up on the rink in the sky.

Absolutely tragic, today was their sisters wedding too, going from the happiest day of her life to the absolute worst
Yes, I cannot even comprehend what she must be going through. Johnny and Mathew deserve so much better than this. Idiots have got to stop driving drunk.
I just can't imagine how you celebrate your wedding in a positive way after losing your two Brothers on the same day. Feel so sad for everybody
@@TheSoundwave92 She decided to cancel it
Just a horrible decision for the entire family and everyone close to them losing 2 fathers, husbands and sons to a drunk driver a day before their sisters wedding
Here I was expecting a silly video about how Johnny Hockey needed to get out of Columbus or something along those lines. And now I'm absolutely devastated. Rest in peace Johnny Hockey. NHL fans the world over will never forget you.
Avs fan here, sending thoughts and prayers to the Blue Jackets and the Gaudreau family.
Insane how in a day like today, we still have drunk drivers taking amazing people away from us.
Tragic. Truly tragic.
FFS!!! It is 2024. Even the smallest of small towns have rideshare options. There’s no need for this anymore!!
RIP to the Gaudreaus. God this sucks….
Was there ever a "need" for drunk driving?
@@g.w.7893 fair play, there was never a “need.” I’m just pointing out that there is no possible excuse anymore.
There was another fan there saying "how could you let him score, that was soft" and I replied and said "no.. that was just an incredible shot."
The flood gates opened, and my Kings ended up losing 7-2 that day but I will always remember that goal for some reason.
An amazing person
A fantastic hockey player
A great guy to have in fantasy
An optimistic and joyful man
A loving father and husband
Rest in peace Johnny Goatdreau 🙏
I was at game 7 against dallas and I will never forget how I felt after his goal. That's a memory flames fans get to keep forever.
I never liked how people spoke about him after he decided to leave, but hopefully everyone can put that aside and recognize him as one of the most talented and important flames of all time. Even if the success wasnt always there, he was the face of a new era in Calgary, the brightest one since the 04 cup run.
rip Johnny Hockey
It's just such a random tragedy. I'm so sorry for them, their families, the Jackets and their fans. All of them deserved so much better.
Yeah ik, when I saw it on the bus this morning I had to double take because ESPN made such a little deal about it.
The fact that when you include Brittanie Cecil, this has happened to Columbus _three times_ in 22 years is absolutely heartbreaking.
Great tribute, Tree. This is unbearably sad.
RIP. We are all Jackets fans today.
Absolutely ❤
For Sure
My team 💔
Absolutely. Canadiens fan here, but I'm pulling for Columbus to do well this year. CBJ comes through for me in video games,so they've always kinda had a spot in my heart, and I've always felt them as "the little team that could". PS- you guys are gonna LOVE Jordan Harris,a great player, and more importantly,a great human being in his own right. We're all "The 5th Line" today, and through this season 💙❤️
Ya no we are not😂
This is easily the saddest piece of sports news since Kobe died.
That's so unbelievably sad. Johnny Gaudreau was so loved here in Calgary
Here in Columbus too. Great man as well as hockey player.

I can’t fathom how much pain the Gaudreau family is going through right now. This is soul-crushing. RIP to the Gaudreau brothers. This just isn’t fair.

Calgary was completely in mourning today. The display outside the Saddledome was tear-inducing.
I respected his choice to leave.
Man. The world without Johnny Hockey is little dimmer now. RIP Johnny and Matthew.
I started watching Flames hockey when Johnny was a rookie. I immediately fell in love with him and his skills. I did everything to be like him, wearing 13 in sports, and eating skittles. Now it’s all gone because of one selfish act from a selfish individual. Rest easy, Johnny
Even tree is at a loss for words regarding Johnny Gaudreau, life just isn’t fair man.
Rest in peace, Johnny Hockey.
I became a jackets fan the year before Johnny signed and I still remember how excited and pumped I was when he signed
Awful awful tragedy
RIP Johnny
Thankyou for adding the part about Kivi. As a lifelong jackets fan I can confirm that we as a fanbase have not healed from Kivi.
We're all Columbus Blue Jackets fans today. RIP Johnny Gaudreau. You were taken way too soon. Prayers for his family, friends, and team mates.
99% of hockey fans including myself are in tears. Those two are, well...were beloved players. I can't fucking believe this.
Not a hockey fan and I cried watching this video. Just from a personal level. A family lost their world. A sister lost her brothers the day before her wedding. Absolutely heart shattering
@@frankdudleyjr6003 And the fact the brothers were simply riding bicycles when this happened. Not like some stupid pretentious popular entity riding a stupidly expensive car, they were riding bicycles, being relatable, good people that had much more to give to the sport, family, and society.
One of the few players i can say i ever met in person. Another thing i can say is he came off as a genuine person who did everything for the love of the game. People like that are rare and unfortunately, only got a little bit rarer. However, the example that Johnny set should not be lost on us. Love life, take heart in your passions and dreams, and spread joy. For Johnny.
As a penguins fan this is absolutely devastating to me because I really liked Johnny hockey. Great player and even better human being. Played the game the way it was meant to be played. Just a very sad day period.
Life is precious but vulnerable. An entire family's world can be changed in a matter of seconds. May the Gaudreau brothers rest in peace.
Today sucks. I’m not a religious man but praying for the Gaudreau family and all those affected by this. Truly horrific.
Never heard a bad word about the kid. He brought a lot of joy to the ice. Absolutely devastating.
he was a city hero, even in two years. he chose us. and will always be remembered loved and cherished by us
An entire extended family ruined on what was supposed to be the happiest day of his sisters life because some asshole thought “he was good to drive”
Honestly when I saw Johnny's name go trending last night, I thought it was just some training video or that he got traded for some reason.
Not this. Never in a million years would I think this would happen to him, at this young of an age too.

Think about his wife and his parents before thinking of an organization.
@@Shadow12avenI mean so am I but I'm also thinking about his teammates. They played with the guy and they're probably crushed too.
Plus the Blue Jackets seem to have had tragedy follow them, unfortunately. In 2002, a 13 year old girl named Brittanie Cecil who was a Jackets fan attended a game in Columbus and had a puck strike her in the head and kill her. In 2021, CBJ backup goalie Matiss Kivlenieks dies during a fireworks accident trying to save Elvis Merzlikins from being hit by that same firework. In 2024, Johnny Gaudreau and his brother Matthew die.......
I just feel so bad that that org has had to go through so much grief in 22 years, and I feel awful for all the family, friends, players, and people closely associated to the people involved in each tragedy. It's crazy, man.......
R.I.P Johnny and Matthew Gaudreau.
In this day and age there is no more excuse for drunk drivers. None. Zero.
As an Ohio man, I grew up watching the jackets and always have had a love for them, and Johnny just made the team feel like it had a new energy that it didn’t before. While most times when I hear of an athlete dying I am saddened by it, this was the first time I just kinda broke down and cried about it. He will be missed not just as an athlete but as an amazing father and person ❤❤❤
