Not all that often but it does occur from time to time. We've even had them chew 1/2-ounce ChatterBaits with a big trailer. No question that a 2-pound crappie has a mouth that rivals that of a largemouth.
@@Wired2Fish thanks for the response and keep doing what you do bro. Maybe one day you'll post a video on using big baits for huge slabs Crappie. I'll be happier than a sissy in a locker room 🤣🤷🏽♂️🎣🐟✌🏽
Agree. But if you can’t afford to specialize all your rods for certain techniques, I’d recommend cranking with mono. Some 10 lb Trilene XL introduces a good amount of stretch to absorb that shock of a stiff tip.
Medium is my favorite for most small to medium crankbaits, Spinnerbaits and Buzzbaits. That said I've seen Med Hvy in some rod brands that were more like a Medium
I throw a Abu revo reel 7'4 Abu medium rod 12 pound shooter sunline Rapala DT 6 and I grind the bank . I try to bounce my crank bait off of everything I can just to get a reaction strike.
I want a slower taper when I'm fishing crankbaits, because the more that rod has a chance to load, the better those hooks will penetrate the fish's mouth. A fast taper is the biggest mistake I see anglers make when cranking - they will often rip the hooks out because the fish feels your tension almost immediately.
5 to 1 prespawn for traps and spinnerbaits early prespawn. 6.3 to one for chatterbaits in grass. There are pros on tour that will use 7.5 to 1 and burn deep divers in summertime. There is no wrong ratio. Your reel is a tool. Take notes, time on the water, experiment.
Totally agree. I have the David fritts perfect crankbaot rod 6'9" mh and it is absolutely perfect imho for squarebills and shallow cranks. The tip is nice and limber but it has some backbone so you can snap grass off if u have to. Gunna try it for some medium divers to.
The KVD video was the first thing I thought of when I heard him say that. In Walkers defense ,however, the one thing I’ve learned from watching way too many UA-cam and bass university videos is that very few things are set in stone. It all comes down to confidence. If you have confidence and it works for you keep doing it.
It all comes down to your technique and whatever u become confidence and works for you, got it!!!!...... I dont ever crankbait, yet have ALOT of crankbaits, I'm a experiment and see which catches me fish 👍🎣
My all-round cranking setup is a Daiwa Steez SV TW with a Daiwa Fle-X-Lite Super versatile. I also have a deep custom crank rod as well. I made videos of each setup.
How many times do big Crappie crush those bass cranks🤔

thankyou for the tips but the only cranking rod I have is a medium heavy rod

That's a good pointer, John. I agree!
I noticed a big difference using a Medium/Moderate rod for cranking. So glad I watched this video prior to buying my new set up.
Does not having a boat cancel your instructions?
what's your recommended gear ratio on this set up
5:4:1 or 6:4:1 anywhere around there!
Connor West I just won a 180$ reel and it’s a 5:1:1 gear ratio. Will it work?
Sawyer N. yes it will work, it would be really good for throwing walking baits like a jerk bait or crank bait
Connor West thanks! Watching this video because I’m gonna go pick up a rod for it this week
@@connorwest1404 hey I'm new to fishing and only have a 7:5:1 ratio

I use a Abu Veritas 2.0 7' winch series, BPS Carbonlite 5.3:1, and Seaguar 12lb flouro, and that's been a great combo for me.
Do you still is the action still fast on that rod or do you look for a moderate? I like a Med moderate to moderate fast action.

Thanks for the video! I love picking up pointers from you guys!
I can attest to this my seven foot medium heavy pulls off fish all the time
I agree got to have that soft tip but a medium on a 10xd is to light of a rod
Yes it is... I used my Dobyn's Champ 805 CB on that bait
Been using 7 ft mh with 14 lb fluoro on cranks/lipless for a long time with no issues.
Yeah, you get dialed and comfortable with a system that works for you. Confidence good results are the ultimate test of the right combo.
Great vid!
What the gear ratio you use for cranking please..thx

In Kevin Van Dam's cranking video he tells you to have your rod pointed directly at the crank bait. He is well known as a cranking expert.
Same thing I was thinking.

I ain’t seen this dudes big checks and classic wins. He seems like a know it all can only be done one way type of guy. No hate just my opinion

Thanks for the awesome tips bro. I love using crank baits too. Senko worm is my favorite
I have no problem catching them on the strong side or what you call the weak side. Guess my arm is just strong
So medium rod? What about medium light ?
I watched this for info on gear ratio. There is none.

What kind of sunglasses are you using?
They're WileyX Echo sunglasses. You can see 'em here: goo.gl/zJELW6

What brand floracarbon to u recommend? I'm sure I spelled that wrong lol
Hey we all misspell things. Just in case you want to know it's Fluorocarbon buddy.
