It's so funny how in these small house videos they always talk about comfortable sitting and then show the most uncomfortable seating places imaginable 😂
I think it's important to remember that architects and interior designers try to fit their clients wishes and preferences into the design of a space and this apartment definitely reflects that for me. Cooking is clearly important to the owner and this kitchen is beautiful and functional at the same time! Using the same material, but in different colors was a great choice as well, because it makes the whole space more cohesive without looking boring. I feel like it would really liven up with some art on the walls and a plant or two, but that's up to personal taste and not relevant to the person who actually lives there obviously😊
@@sheet-music for many cases, u cant have a big kitchen like these in typical layout for 36m2...n their bed is also a king size ...so i guess the architect just do her job as what client asked
I wouldn’t have dreamed of a such a fully kitted out kitchen in an apartment that small! Really appreciate what the architect emphasized to to create a segmented, but well flowed space that speaks to the client.
There’s a lot here that I like, but also some real oddities. While it’s a small detail easily remedied, the wardrobe behind a curtain clumsily draws attention to itself like an elephant in the room-be rid of the curtain. Also, seating options are needed-no one wants to sit in a hard stool for more than a few minutes. Finally, as with many of these small apartments, the storage is too limited. Heaven forbid you buy a vacuum cleaner, an ironing board, or even a book.
Agree with the curtain hiding the wardrobe. I think some custom built-in storage would fix that if the owner chooses to invest on something like that. Also agree with the seating situation especially since the living room has enough space for a comfortable sofa and a few lounge chairs. I don’t think that there is a lack of storage solutions. She mentioned at the beginning that the owner lives in this space, and he simply may have enough storage for HIS needs. It’s not an inherent problem in the design.
It’s a given that storage is limited. It’s a small unit. Nothing wrong with a bench seat. Many dining chairs and bar stools are not upholstered. I like the linen curtain moment. Adds softness.
I think the actual function of the curtain is to prevent the smell of cooking getting into the wardrobe. Which is why I think the original position of the kitchen was better and made more sense as it could have easily be separated by (glass) doors from the living / sleeping space.
The original layout is very typical for Berlin studio apartments as you can find them all over the city. As a Berlin resident who has lived in such a studio apartment for a decade I find the idea incredibly smart to switch the bed room and kitchen. I would have really enjoyed this layout. ❤️
Not in Berlin, but I live in flat with kitchenette in living space and bedroom where the kitchen was and I love it (I don't like cooking so do not need full-size kitchen)
I'm going to go against the grain here and say the layout doesn't use the space very wisely. There's an uncomfortable bench of a couch, a wardrobe far away from the bedroom, and just stools instead of chairs. So much empty space for what? Standing? This one is a miss for me.
Maybe the client enjoys yoga and work-out from home haha But I do agree, I think a mirror which is either hung up on the wall or integrated in a wardrobe's doors is much more efficient use of space. I don't know where I would've put the wardrobe, but I think I would prefer it close to the bedroom or bathroom. Maybe someday someone will design a space where the wall between bathroom and bedroom is a wardrobe accessible from both sides.
Yep, this place looks about as far from cozy and comfortable as you could get. No personalisation and i'm pretty sure the space could be used much more efficiently.
The wardrobe seems more like an after thought. The curtain to hide the cheap wardrobe was not thought out and the furniture looks uncomfortable to sit on .
If I was offered to live in a hacienda with plenty of space nature and animals, I’d prob say yes! But then I see these little apartments and just feel joyful at the amount of creativity that goes into them. I can also picture myself living and enjoying this jewel: the closet behind a curtain; the statement of the black kitchen; the bed at window level with all that handy storage! The little shelf the side lamp is floating on; the spacious drawers in the bathroom sink… just perfect ❤️
it's a simple layout and i'd say it reflects the owner's wishes and lifestyle. the bathroom is very bright and sleek ✨ though i wonder why do you need a curtain over a closed wardrobe? i understand if it was more of an open shelves thing...
If they wanted a short budget option they could've just gone for clothing racks instead of a closed wardrobe hidden by curtains. It'd even add to the industrial feel of the apartment. But I guess that option wouldn't give enough of the boxy feel like the rest of the furniture they used
👍🏼 Yes! The bathroom in particular! More people should consider floating vanities and wall-hung toilets, just for ease of cleaning! The tile and glass are nice as well as easy to keep clean! 😎✌🏼
There’s something calming about the space as a whole. The bedroom is kept really simple with no distraction and the living area despite being small still has a sizeable comfortable floor space to move around. I would add a circular dining table and two chairs (for meals and work). This space is one of my favourite from this channel.
So, to me, this is absolutely wonderful. I don't like bringing in all of the elements that some do to add "comfort" to their apartment. I like a space to feel open and clean. It looks well thought out. While I understand it might not be to some people's taste, I can appreciate this for what it is. Also, what a kitchen!

I think the kitchen in isolation is really beautiful, I love the bathroom, and I like how they used common materials throughout the space. For me, the squared edges of the red stool and the couch look uninviting and a bit awkward. While I like how the couch can be a small bed, I think it would have been more welcoming to just purchase a sofa with a pullout bed. With the soft lines of the sofa, you could do a more proper built in storage solution in the living room without overdoing the hard/ built in feel. I also think there is an opportunity for a fold out table to accommodate more people. Extra seating for that could be stored anywhere, there's plenty of wall space. As far as the layout, I do like the idea of putting the bedroom in a more private area, but I wonder if there's a better way of using the space. There is a missed opportunity for storage space under the bed, and the top-opening cabinets on the side of the bed might be a pain ... I can see myself using that as a side table and then having to move everything to access the storage. Maybe budget was a big limitation here?
I like my bedroom bared. The only extra minimalist room in my flat. It's a place where I exclusively sleep and nothing else. There's a bed, a side table and a lamp on the floor. My side table is almost empty : inside, only a night cream ; on it only my phone and water. That's it. Maybe the owner doesn't put a lot of things either near his bed. If he's like me, he only will be removing a bottle and a phone :)
I know that it was a small aspect of your comment, but in the video she did say that there was storage space under the bed. Maybe the steps pull all the way out? Although that could be slightly awkward.
the partment looks perfect for me! The light, the colours, the furniture (especially kitchen!!!), curtains instead of doors - all this gives a fresh and stylish new life for the space. Wish I could live here for a couple of days!
The thing is this is such a typical studio design for so many berlin homes… and I never understood why the kitchen was cramped in where the bed is now, this makes so much more sense…! Well done!

I love it. The U layout makes it feel bigger. I know. I lived in a unit that had the same layout, albeit much larger. The kitchen has plenty of storage. The platform bed has plenty of storage and adds another level for interest. The couch is comfortable because it would have the correct height and density foam, and pillows. This home is a true sanctuary.
Berlin has got to be one of the most English-speaking cities outside of English-speaking countries. In an Friedrichshain hipster coffee place or bar, it wouldn't be surprising for the staff to speak no German.
Love the simplicity of this space and pleased that even though they enjoy Art and Music it is not any on the wall bringing a calmness to the space; as outside Art and Music is everywhere and inside specific brick and mortars.
With the warm under-cabinet lighting, the kitchen is beautiful and its functionality looks great too. The concept of making all the furniture in the same material is interesting, but it doesn’t work in practice. The seating doesn’t look ergonomic. Even the multi-functional shelf-stool looks too sharp to be comfortable. Maybe if they’d rounded down all the corners on the seating it would have worked better? I also agree with other comments about the wardrobe curtain being unnecessary. The ikea piece blends just fine with the sterility of the other furniture.
I love the flow of the place, the colors, and the kitchen. That raised bed could have pullout drawers running the length of it underneath for massive extra storage, but they opted for those steps instead. I think a step-up solution could be added there without blocking all that potential storage space.
I love this space, lots of light, a mix of colors that compliment each other, and overall good function. My kitchen in my tiny home is this small my two regrets…my fridge doesn’t have a sufficient freezer & my kitchen stools don’t have back or soft cushions. In small spaces you use every area of the living space and it needs to be comfortable especially as many of us either work from home or just love being at home. I have some adjustments to make. 🖤
Beautiful work. One eye sore and issueI come across is the dining table. It’d be much more efficient if you could fold down the table top and the chairs to be tucked into the space below so that there is more space and flows better.
This is so smart. My only thing is I need an area for my cleaning tools, bags, 10 pairs of shoes (sandals, sneakers and slippers) and a computer/office supplies area. The kitchen is spacious and livable love it.
I really like that idea of a window to another room in the bathroom, I live in nyc and a lot of bathrooms don’t have natural light and that window the was on the shower wall going to the bedroom was a really nice touch. Surprised they didn’t mention it. Great video
This layout is super appealing to me. Spacious, interesting and efficient. Some people are talking about the couch/benches and uncomfortable furniture. I think with much room one has, I think you could get a different couch, and seats for the kitchen. Obviously they're optimizing for function on some sort of budget.
Kitchen next to a doorless bedroom is a big no no for me, even as someone that doesn’t cook that often. Also, gonna have to agree with those saying that it really looks like a renting project more than a living space…
This space feels very peaceful to me. I like the black kitchen and the simple white bedroom. I also like the windows. The only thing I am not crazy about, is the curtain around the wardrobe. It draws more attention to the wardrobe, instead of letting it blend into the wall.
I absolutely love this one! I especially love how the bedroom is tucked away and sees none of the utility of the apartment -- very hard to do in such a small space. I can imagine life in this apartment is very peaceful and cozy.
I think this space is great, with a lot of room for growth regarding more storage options if a second person were to move in. It only feels so big because one person resides here, but there's always room for more!
I really like your videos guys. I can imagine those spaces where thought with lots of natural light in mind but I really want to see them “during the night” (artificial light, internally or externally etc) as part of the video.
I have admired Donald Judd’s work for years, both as an artist & design . I especially like how one informs the other. The line between his art & design is so blurred as to be non-existent.
Nice apartment. Really well thought out and the client is smart. Why spend a fortune on a custom wardrobe when an IKEA one does the job and hide it behind a curtain . That's a great idea. 👍 love the kitchen space and the sleeping area.
Would love to see a before-after comparison. This unit looks like it has pretty good lights and layout to start with. I can't say that about most units...
Well designed space overall - clean and calm looking. Not a fan of the curtains. Great storage - really love the ones under the bed and under the sink in the bathroom.
While I love black kitchens, if you cook a lot, they are a big NO. That aside, there is something unfinished about this project. It seems that they are mid way to completing the whole design. This one is a miss for me.
Good use of spare of what seems to be an awkward layout. I really don’t want to get out of bed and use the bathroom in the middle of the night having to navigate all the way to the other side
The floor plan with the centered kitchen is interesting, but I will never understand how food lovers can have a small refrigerator?! I like the calm bathroom design and the arch over the windows are so lovely. I wish more buildings had these along with the deep window ledge. I do agree with most of the critics here but wanna fiew on the positive. Its not a complete miss for me ;)
I like the kitchen and the the bedroom. The living room especially the couch doesn’t look comfortable to me. Feels too cold also. But it is a nice, practical use of space.
Nice, but I can't understand what is a reason to hide a cabinet behind curtains. All furniture is a custom made but that cabinet. There is a niche in the wall that allows having floor to the ceiling closet with much more storage space. All models from IKEA can be used.
visual clutter. my complaint with the cabinet is that it's as far away from the bedroom (and bathroom) as possible in that layout. I prefer having my wardrobe near the bed.
@@makanimike seems like the wardrobe is closer to the bathroom for getting dressed more easily in a more spacious area in front of that mirror; but also to get dressed with some privacy, away from the windows ^_^
Only problem is lack of storage space in living room. One small wardrobe is not much. Why not use all space wall oposite to kitchen area for creative storage and siting space that double as day bed and guest bed. Movable island could be great idea too especially with foldable table top for working, watching movies on computer and more work space in the kitchen. But overall is great space and nice apartment.
Though not really mentioned, the high ceilings really contribute to the overall space. The place comes together nicely, though the idea of MDF furniture seems a bit worrisome, especially if you have any particularly heavy guests visiting. The daybed, at least on camera, looks bowed down in the center. The living area curtain is I suppose supposed to match up with the one in the bedroom, but I think it takes away from the rest of the design. It's like having a huge ghost lurking in the corner of the room. I realize that cost was a concern, but maybe leave the Ikea exposed (maybe paint it cherry wood, dark brown or charcoal), or take some further inspiration from Japanese design and place a folding screen (byobu) in that corner. You could probably find one that is cheaper and more readily matches better the rest of the room decor than the hospital curtain. I suppose if you were to place items on top of the storage unit that would still be a problem. Overall though it seems very nice, particularly the wonderful kitchen! Though I have to say that I would think that anyone who makes the kitchen such a center of their life probably needs a larger dining area to share their creations in.
To be honest: I am not an architect but this looks like a room even I could have designed. I dont get why this is special but I am willing to understand.
i think design would be better if there is a direct access from the bedroom to the toilet, rather than having to go around the kitchen and living space. Very cozy design though, i really loved everything else!❤
I like that this space has “ambiance “. It’s functional, budget friendly, and masculine. I can visualize the client she designed this space to appease.
I would have placed the kitchen next to the left window and have the bar continue to the right window. , The entire wall where the wardrobe would be kitchen. Love the wooden floor.
my Berlin apartment has the exact same size and the same layout, high ceilings, windows also on the same side - and I just wondered a couple of weeks ago: why not turn the small room (kitchen) into the bedroom and create an open kitchen in the big main room. Although this style of furniture is not my taste, I love the way they're using the space and how it feels very open.
I seriously love this kitchen. Its small but look spacious enough. I might need to move to 48sqm in sg, and kinda not liking how the kitchen position is like... sigh. But ow well, very motivating to watch small spaces house.
The floor surface of the apartment might be small, but those high ceilings make all the difference. Try and incorporate the same design in a 2.5m high apartment and it'll suddenly feel very very different
not really. I do have similar layout with 30sqm and 2,45m hight and if you leave generous floor space empty it still look spacious (also having furniture on legs instead standing right on the floor), however I do have kitchenette instead full-size kitchen, because I do not like cooking that much

This layout is super appealing to me. Spacious, interesting and efficient. Some people are talking about the couch/benches and uncomfortable furniture. I think with much room one has, I think you could get a different couch, and seats for the kitchen. Obviously they're optimizing for function on some sort of budget.
I live only a view meters away from this place. Interesting to see a project from never too small here.
Breathtaking, simple, cosy and modern.
Simplicity always looks good to me! Along with a minimalistic lifestyle
Comme des Garçons for the win! Love the kitchen.
Kitchen next to a doorless bedroom is a big no no for me, even as someone that doesn’t cook that often. Also, gonna have to agree with those saying that it really looks like a renting project more than a living space…
I love the steps inder the bed 👌
This is inspired! My only change? I would triple coat the inside of kitchen unit cabinets a bright enamel red. Homage to Asian inspiration.
Блестящий интерьер! Идеально! Ничего лишнего, все лаконично. Супер!
This space feels very peaceful to me. I like the black kitchen and the simple white bedroom. I also like the windows. The only thing I am not crazy about, is the curtain around the wardrobe. It draws more attention to the wardrobe, instead of letting it blend into the wall.
Hello Lorelei
One of my new favourite apartments on this channel ♥️
The space is awesome but I would definitely do something else with design ideas ❤❤
I absolutely love this one! I especially love how the bedroom is tucked away and sees none of the utility of the apartment -- very hard to do in such a small space. I can imagine life in this apartment is very peaceful and cozy.
Wardrode in the living room covered by a courtain is a big hole for me. Also, create such a nice kitchen with just a mini fridge is a weak point too.
The transition between old and new. I am the architect. I love beauty
This apartment is smaller than last weeks but looks so much better. It’s liveable and not overly designed, like the last awful one.
This is my dream studio flat in Berlin 😍 hope to get something similar in the near future
It is very pretty, well organized and elegant💚🐾
It's Deutschland so, black must be present. Lots of it. That black furniture gives the entire studio a morgue flavor.
I have admired Donald Judd’s work for years, both as an artist & design . I especially like how one informs the other. The line between his art & design is so blurred as to be non-existent.
I adore this space. Bright, open. Love the kitchen especially
Love the all black kitchen.
These vidoes are so relaxing 😌
The kitchen is the heart of the house, very well done but a bit too cold for me.
Its not a complete miss for me ;)
I stayed at an airbnb in Paris in a very similar apartment. Very comfortable!
this kitchen is amazing
This is so calming! I'm surprised they didn't do more with art or anything else on the wall above the bench.
I could imagine they left it blank for the owner to decide what to put on the walls - or he simply prefers a neutral space
My favourite design, though it looks complicated, i still love it
I like the kitchen and the the bedroom. The living room especially the couch doesn’t look comfortable to me. Feels too cold also.
But it is a nice, practical use of space.
I like that there is a high ceiling up the bed. And also some space in the living room to seat on the floor or do yoga.
I like it, just not the cupboard/curtain in the corner of the room.
Nice, but I can't understand what is a reason to hide a cabinet behind curtains. All furniture is a custom made but that cabinet. There is a niche in the wall that allows having floor to the ceiling closet with much more storage space. All models from IKEA can be used.
curtains look softer and more dramatic? ^_^
visual clutter.
my complaint with the cabinet is that it's as far away from the bedroom (and bathroom) as possible in that layout. I prefer having my wardrobe near the bed.
Futher more white cabinet could be almost invisible. The apartment is so small that nothing is too far away.
The kitchen is stunning 😍
Though I have to say that I would think that anyone who makes the kitchen such a center of their life probably needs a larger dining area to share their creations in.
there are so many beautiful decadent apartments in berlin, i hope we see more
To be honest: I am not an architect but this looks like a room even I could have designed. I dont get why this is special but I am willing to understand.
i think design would be better if there is a direct access from the bedroom to the toilet, rather than having to go around the kitchen and living space. Very cozy design though, i really loved everything else!❤
Love the kitchen. I might build it in my studio flat but need to integrate a washing machine.
Also loved the storage in the bed. No need to have a wardrobe nearby. Serves as a closet and a wardrobe where it is.
Love the apartment .. I would just get a bit more comfortable couch (same size) and a nice painting above the couch..
😍God that home would be fun to keep clean. I love built-ins.
Wow, looks fantastic!!
my Berlin apartment has the exact same size and the same layout, high ceilings, windows also on the same side - and I just wondered a couple of weeks ago: why not turn the small room (kitchen) into the bedroom and create an open kitchen in the big main room.
If the kitchen stayed in the room it belonged to. You could play a lot more with the space in the living/ sleeping room.
