    What struck me about the interaction with the blind man was that it was the first time Culla was shown to be thinking about the well-being of someone else.

    this is a very good overview, and in the repeated themes thruout mccarthy, it seems outer dark is firmly in the core of those ruminations. mccarthy has his own unique way of embracing a darkness and emptiness, partly (hopefully) because humanity has not realized itself in the world as of yet, but also thru his wondrous and complex prose. i also agree with you in your appreciation of suttree. ty
