As the world watched Thursday night, President Biden held his first solo press conference this year, after hosting a NATO conference in which he accidentally referred to Ukrainian President Zelensky as Russian President Putin before quickly correcting himself. While speaking with reporters, Biden defended his record and vowed to “finish the job,” but at one point referred to Kamala Harris as “Vice President Trump.” As more Democrats continue to call for him to step aside, we host a roundtable discussion on Biden and Trump and the 2024 race, and the impact on U.S. foreign policy, with American Prospect executive editor David Dayen; longtime labor, racial justice and international activist Bill Fletcher Jr., co-founder of the Ukrainian Solidarity Network; and CodePink co-founder Medea Benjamin, co-author of the books NATO: What You Need to Know and War in Ukraine: Making Sense of a Senseless Conflict.

His cognition seems to get worse the older he becomes; which is a real puzzle to me, since the elderly are not known for their forgetfulness. People in their 80s are sharp, quick-witted and wise. If someone in their 80s cannot think as well as someone thirty years younger, then there must be something wrong. Everybody knows this.

At times, he seems to show signs of megalomania when he says that only he is quallified to beat Trump and only God can make him step down by coming down and tell him to!

Because the mainstream news media including NPR, PBS, and DN are all in the tank for the Democratic Party.
Of course they saw it. The only difference between now and before the debate is that their sense of self-importance has been thwarted by the removal of the mask of deniability which Biden committed at the debate. That's why they're so hellbent on getting him out of the campaign: he dared to show the world just how old he in fact was, refusing to play this game of pretending to be something the entire world knows and has always known. The media are clutching their pearls and trying to deny the will of the Democratic Party voter base because their sense of their viability has been wounded. The debate was less a haunting reveal of Biden's age than of a haunting reveal of the media's gaslighting campaign *about* his age that, after the debate, they could no longer uphold. Has anyone in the media apologized for the gaslighting? Of course not: they're too busy pretending that all of sudden Biden's age has been made apparent. But it's always been apparent. What's apparent now that wasn't before is the extent to which the media was willing to gaslight voters about Biden's age and now willing to completely disregard their will about the candidate they have already chosen knowing full well who they were voting for, which was the man we all saw at the debate. The voters have always known how old and ineffectual and compromised he is. Nothing has changed for them.

Instead of fighting private power in and out of the party, Democrats as an institution cultivated it and made it a cudgel. Project 2025 has been around for 30-40 years and instead of fully fighting that agenda, they decided to fight anything and everything left of center. Mechanisms of accountability are in the hands of the self interested, they hate democracy just as much as any religious zealot on the right. That hypocrisy will damn us all too, and it will be the story to understand as central to all this leading into November.

Comparing the president from early this year to now, I would have to say he had a serious health event, and almost nobody could complain about him getting behind Harris.
The fact is, even if he did come out with a great proformance, his age is still the first topic onnindependent minds. This is not good for the election.
The threat is very severe and Biden actually is the best option to beat Trump at this stage. Harris would be the only other option. My family has a family history of medical issues, most of which are one time events that either kill or debilitate. If a stroke or similar happens, I would hand off operation of our family business, or my family would remove me. We have done so before.
Staying in when you are not at top form, when your job is caring for a small business, is one thing. Being the person who truly could get that mythical "3 AM phone call" saying Americans died is even beyond that.

US people are going to vote for who they want, if there is a fear of who is to win, then improve your education. My concern is that the entire world depends on the US foreign politics which is not. Besides, I don't really care who wins, that's a US matter.
