Alien Ant Farm MOVIES - The Decomposer Lounge Music Reaction and Breakdown
AAF are criminally underrated, in my humble opinion. Everyone knows their Smooth Criminal cover but they have some really, really good albums that no one bothered checking out
These Days is amazing
I completely agree. I still go back to this entire album quite often.
I totally agree! Some of their others from the album - Calico, Attitude, Flesh and Bone, Sticks and Stones - all were hugely impactful to my high school experience. Our high school band drum line used to play this album all the time in our drum room getting ready for performances and after practices, such great memories. We weren't too bad either, being marching band grand national champions, and Alien Ant Farm were huge motivators/influencers for us as drummers especially!
One of my goto albums, no skip, that I will always go back to is Anthology...One of my top ten of all time.
Agreed! Still spin truANT regularly!
The whole album is a hidden gem of the 2000's
AAF is such a tragedy. The world lost so much amazing music for so long. Movies is def proof they had more to give.
Smooth Criminal was such a massive phenomenon it was almost impossible to follow up.. This is such a great song but I remember the feeling when it came out and how unfortunately it was pretty much overlooked due to smooth criminals massive success.. Which is a shame because this song is a masterpiece I think.
New song released 2 weeks ago - so cold
they appear starting a tour with the new release next month
Just revisited this album a few days ago. Super underrated album that got overshadowed by their Smooth Criminal cover.
It sucks man, their whole career was overshadowed by that cover. This band was so good!
The whole album is great. Totally agree.
Agreed! Fantastic album!!!
Definitely
Agreed, I can always come back to this album and doesn't feel aged. It actually have some emotion to the songs and is an easy listen.
This is by far one of the most underrated albums ever. The whole thing can be played and set on repeat.
The drummer and bass player from this band are out of this world good. Absolute groove masters. The best rhythm section of that entire nu metal era I genuinely believe
Them and Deftones
John Otto and Wes Borland of Limp Bizkit aswell, fat beats
Era-wise, I'll add Ryan Martinie and Matthew McDonough, the bass and drums for Mudvayne. Phenomenal rhythm section.
Their bass player was such a huge part of their sound. He knew exactly when to groove through certain riffs.
Tye Z!!!! I think he was a studio bassist as well, guy is incredible 👏
It's interesting how nobody seems to pick up the fact that this is an immensely sad song, because it's a breakup song. Just goes to show how much sad songs in major key (songs like Fix You, Purple Rain, Mr. Brightside, etc) hit way harder than the more conventional minor key songs.
Good call, I never really listened deeply to the lyrics
I actually cry every time I listen to this. Some smiles too. But it definitely hits me. Thought I was weird for that lol.
Good point. Another example would be the ballad section to Bohemian Rhapsody, that's Bb major (although yeah, that one isn't exactly upbeat)
I want you to be free
The next song on the album, “Flesh and Bone,” is another excellent track.
Absolutely! It and “Attitude” are my two favorites from that album.
@@sisenmann Yes!!!! Flesh and Bone and especially Attitude are my favorites on the album as well. I would love, love, love a reaction from Geebz on "Attitude".
The whole album is great IMO
@@Christopher-md7tf It is. From start to finish. Never gets old to me.
Yes !
Definitely one of AAF best songs, anyone that grew up in the 90's or early 2000's understands this music video. Also RIP Mr. Miyagi, what a legendary cameo
the first song on this album freakin rocks, it's called "Courage". Their bass player is so so good. Love it!
Courage is another great one!!! This album is so good!
Courage is phenomenal, as is this whole album, but WISH!
"Wish" is a memorable AAF song to me. It's super dark and catchy.
I like wish too. I think it was on a skateboard video game too So I heard it often
@@Cornchps827 Yeah THPS3, the Tony Hawk with Canada, Airport, Cruise Ship, Suburbia etc.
Falling always hurts the pride more than the fall itself.
I used to think that, before I fell off a ladder and broke my spine... bad times... real bad times.
Hurts a lot more as you age
Sounds as though you do not have a deteriorating spine
Not always lol
AAF had some genuinely creative tunes back in the day. Their bassist at the time was also incredible. I'll say this about nu-metal/alt-metal, even if you aren't a fan of the genre, they definitely knew how to pick a good bass player.
Also you mentioned your link for the AKG headphones in the description. I don't know if buying them will necessarily help support you directly, but you at least pushed me to buy a pair to replace my ratty old CAD cans.
Not only the bassist, the drummer is absolutely incredible as well. Really, the whole band was on top of their game on the first record. Most people only know Smooth Criminal or this song, but the whole album is fantastic.
I'm just sittin here fantasizing about heading to Hawaii, popping an indica gummy and watching the sun set on the beach.
I've been putting this track on playlists for so many years, and everyone always comments on what a great song it is. I'm a Maiden guy, but it's hard to ignore a well crafted piece of music, performed by good musicians, accompanied with a stellar vocal performance. I bet we'd all agree we would rather a song of this quality on mainstream stations than the derivative, sad performances that are pushed at us. Up the Irons! :)
"These Days" was a great track, and the video was outside the BET awards. The reactions were fantastic.
Bassist is Tye Zamora. A few years in, he left the band to go to school for music... Such a great bassist. He eventually came back ; )
New band you should really consider
RX Bandits - ....and the battle begun.
Been around over 20 years with a huge "underground" following. My favorite band probably.
Attitude and Wish are two AAF songs that are really worth checking out. The ANThology album as a whole is still one of my favourite albums to this day.
I second this! I still go back and listen to the album front to back pretty frequently.
Attitude is one of the best songs
For me this song has one of the best bridges of all time. It seriously gives me goosebumps every time I listen to it. Amazing tune!
I remember this song being in Madden '04. I actually go back and listen to this periodically. Great song!
That had a pretty good soundtrack
With that bass it almost covers the guitar like a thick coat of sea blue paint over a lit orange and with his bright yellow voice makes a wonderful brown.
This is Pop punk at its finest. Very marketable and radio friendly
Clutch "Green Buckets"
The song "Calico" off this album is super underrated and amazing.
I would really like to see your take on a band called Oceansize. They’re a Manchester based progressive/post rock group that is composed of 3 guitarists which they use to create spellbinding and awe inspiring walls of sound.
The drummer is also noted for being extremely talented and always plays some dizzying rhythms beneath the music. I don’t think any of their songs are in 4/4.
To get a taste of what their sound is most like, Trail of Fire is a good place to start as it features one of their best buildups and some excellent layering and production details. So yeah, if you can get to them when you have the chance, I don’t think you’ll regret it.
I totally agree on 'Trail of fire'.
Oh man, I literally brought up Oceansize on his post about possibly doing obscure band Mondays yesterday. I second(edit:third) Trail Of Fire, among other greats like Amputee and No Tomorrow. Such a criminally overlooked band.
great band, the frame is one of my favorite tracks
Efflorescence is godly, saw them perform it live in its entirety was incredible
@@nikocloud821 One of the best albums ever. I really think its beauty is beyond belief. Especially tracks like Women Who Love Men Who Love Drugs, Long Forgotten, and Amputee.
the drummer is insanely underrated
AKG 420 Headsets - Gummy bears for the win. Man, we could be friends. -Engineer with stints and a NEVE
🤣 Gummy bear... Best pain medicine. Also great for insomnia.
Ah man! These dudes are my jam!!
This is one of the absolute best songs of the early 00's. It's both timeless but also really specific to the era. A perfect pop tune that will live on forever.
Seeing AAF live was incredible. Especially since it was free, outdoors and hardly anyone there.
Yknow what I reaaaally love is the tiny little improv on the bass at the end of the song. It’s obvious they used that to make it sound like the wrap up of a movie credits or something.
Thank you SO much for this! It’s so
Infuriating that radio and pop culture just grabbed onto their MJ cover, when “‘Movies” was their first single from that album in early 2001 and was actually getting a ton of radio airplay and charting and then the MJ cover came out, and it’s like amnesia overtook the media and cultural zeitgeist re: “Movies”. 🙄
It’s a terrific song and the first music video they shot for it is a great, fairly simple yet totally thematic video.
I love watching you and others react to music. I always have a hey I haven’t heard that in ages moment and add another song to my music list 😂
The bass slides in like "if you weren't dancing now, well here ya go"
Every song you do..I have in my cd rack.
Confirming my belief
that I have impeccable taste in music.
😎
Please revisit The Mars Volta! Would love to see you react to "Tetragrammaton", "Cygnus...Vismund Cygnus", "Cassandra Gemini", "Eriatark". Honestly all of their songs lol
An excellent choice, my friend!
This track is always a fave of mine to sing at karaoke. :)
absolutely love watching your channel man. Very relaxing, almost comfort food type content, with an interesting personality and perspective (and kick ass music)
I just can't get enough of you, Geebz! Haven't even watched this yet, but AAF were so severely underrated and seeing them on your channel just reinforces how awesome you are!
Hell yes. More Alien Ant Farm! Hitting this 36 year old right in the sweet spot. I've always thought these guys are super underrated and this album in particular has no skips. The success of smooth criminal overshadowed some really unique stuff.
I got to open for them a few years back. Such an awesome band!
YES YES YES YES!!!! Thank you Geebz!!! I’ve been waiting for you to react to AAF! You made my day, my man. It was a rough day and this just totally turned it around. AWESOME.
You should listen to Attitude, that song is a banger. Nice analysis as usual 🤙🏽
i wouldn't describe it as a banger, but it is my favourite outside of Smooth Criminal. the guitar part and feel of the song is great
One of my favorite albums from high school.... Super underrated, repeat all day long. Cheers
Please give the Tragically Hip a listen. They're criminally under-appreciated in the USA, but they're worshipped in Canada. This a deep rabbit hole worth exploring!
One of my favourite albums. I used to play everything on it apart from Smooth Criminal, even though it's undoubtedly a great cover, you just got sick of hearing it everywhere and their own stuff was much more satisfying.
just hangin around here at 4 in the morning, giving thumbs up to all these comments saying how great antology is
Their song "Attitude" was a favorite of mine for some time
I love your show. As a musician I really dig your insight on things. You've inadvertently helped me a bit with songwriting, in particular song structure. Comsidering I'm a metal musician and you aren't, that's pretty amazing. I love how music works that way.
The bass player is a super nice guy and always wishes me a Happy Birthday. Learned a lot from learning the bass lines to this album myself
This triggers memories of Dolores Haze as I was reading the beautiful Nabokov novel "Lolita" when this song came out. I just let this song play in a loop.
Whisper was my favorite song for this album
Not only does seeing Alien Ant Farm getting some recognition make me happy, so do your videos! Sorry about your back. Keep on those gummies ;)
You need to listen to “Out of the black” Royal Blood! They’re a 2-piece band with a bass(vocals)/drums…heavy heavy sound with just the two of them!
Pppllllleeeaaasseeeeeee react to any Royal Blood!
They were such a great band to see live - such energy and love from them on stage!
This is always been one of my favorites by them, they were great live.
AAF is such a boss band. "These Days" video is one of my favorite videos ever. They crashed the red carpet of the 2003 BET Awards.
Never ever got into this band but ALWAYS LOVED this song! Great to hear your take spelling out why in simple terms. :D And they knew it was good because they released it as a single with a new video multiple times!
It's so good when the bass have all that presence and space on the mix, the power and beauty of the bass is unbeatable!!! I really dig this song because of this!!!
AAF has some great songs. "Quiet" and "Tia Lupe" are two among many of my favorites. One of the bands from my adolescence that I still listen to.
This band is legendary. And criminally underrated.
It was a blast redescovering this song with you man.
What I think is worth mentioning in this particular "decomposion" is how guitar and bass turn switch places and guitar is more rythmical leaving melodies to bass guitar. Thats my impression. I'm not a pro, Just a simple listener.
Great song! That album is a classic that still holds up. One of my favorite drummer and bass combos too
I was lucky enough to see AAF many years ago in Providence, Rhode Island. It was a kickass show!
Glad to see the opinion of this band has been changing over time. Skilled group of musicians who released multiple albums-worth of good material.
Such a great bass forward band, every bass line is a revelation
I wished you had played the music video... 20 years later and it's still entertaining and all of the movies referenced are still culturally relevant.
oh dang, wish I would have found your channel sooner. Love the intro... cheee hoooooo! Auryte!
I love this song.
You should do Another Day by Jimmies Chicken Shack at some point! They were another highly underrated band back then.
YES. So many AAF or JCS songs would be great to see.
One of my favourite songs ever! Really, that whole album is fantastic and their drummer is just insane.
I love that song. I was a teenager when it first appeared on MTV. Feels nostalgic.
So I discovered you two days ago with your Halo analysis. Now today this pops up on my feed - one of my favorite AAF songs! I suppose I'll have to subscribe, now!
I remember this from one of the Tony Hawk games. Great track.
Love hearing some love for Alien Ant Farm. One of my favorites. They always put me in a good mood, especially the second album, which was written after the lead singer broke his neck after a crash while on tour.
“Goodbye” is another excellent track by them.
We gotta get him to do Bug Eyes by Dredg
OMG YES TO DREDG
Will add them to my list :)
Yessssss
@@KeyOfGeebz My recommendation by them (I mean, there are SO MANY, but I'd love for you to hear the song "Triangle" or "The Canyon Behind Her"
@@fearlessbiped 100% agree, just figured he should start off with Bug Eyes haha
I love your appreciation for bass.
Have you ever listened to The Toadies? Another highly underrated band! Possum Kingdom, Tyler, and I Come From The Water (which makes me lose my mind every time I hear it)!
I grew up on AAF I’m so happy you made a video reacting to movies
Wow I haven't heard this song is so long it was nice to hear you react to it.
The music video to this is amazing!
Great song! Had this album on repeat back in middle school!
2:20 When you know he likes a good bass drop and are just waiting for his reaction xD
This brings me back ❤️❤️ also you make me super nervous that you’re going to spill your coffee when you start moving your arms around....
i absolutely LOVE alien ant farm, anthology is my favorite album. loved seeing you talk about this!
One of my favorite AAF songs. Saw them live a few years back and they sounded great live.
This song hits me with so much nostalgia.
I saw alien ant farm at my second concert ever. They were pretty great. Nice to see them on the channel
Must have missed the unboxing of that shiny plaque in the back :D Congrats! Glad you're checking out AAF, one of my favorite Albums along all the other Nu Metal stuff that came out around that time.
lit geez lit geez
Anthology is such a good album. I don't listen to that subgenre of rock very often any more but that album still gets played. Smooth Criminal was the first rock song I remember hearing, in the summer after 6th grade (2001) after having grown up listening to nothing but country music. Talk about mind blown.
Definitely my favorite song off of what's already a solid album. Every time I listen to it it always puts me in a good mood
Super fun! I forgot about this one.
What a tune! Ahh that was a blast of nostalgia
Love those bass fills.
purposeful harmony, well said
Love it!
Here’s another three letter acronym band name for you: AFI “Beautiful Thieves,” “Miss Murder,” “Girl’s Not Grey,” or “Silver and Cold.”
