It's makes the first film pointless, an act of self sabotage. Pathetic Hollywood.
The first film was Taxi Driver with make up. It was never a serious Joker back story, so it's fine.
The original was pointless all by itself. Well, it does stand tall as an example of poor and lazy writing. So there's that.
No it doesn't. Only if you perversely thought 'The Joker' is ever a hero.
@@Picnicl are you okay? You seem to be triggered whenever someone has a different viewpoint about Joker. Not attacking you, just genuinely curious

@@misterx51-h8j yeah, wasn't gonna. Which is why I'm in the process of writing my own historical action-adventure thriller novel. Indiana Jones/Tombraider/Uncharted style. Quite content with what I've already written, just needs some more polish here and there before it's ready to go.
The thing is they’re not punishing the fans of the first movie because no one is going to see it. They’re punishing themselves. No one is going to hire this director again lol
His best bet is to make The Hangover 4
He won't be getting paid nearly as much or a budget that high ever again, but he'll get work.
He got away with making hangover 2 and 3. I don't think they'll kick him to the curb so easily.
There is no punishment. The movie isn't that bad but if you're not into musicals then you won't like it much. I am not a fan of musicals and even good musicals I don't enjoy. So this movie is hit and miss depending on your bent but critics are being a bit too harsh.
They always fail up in Hollywood plus as long as this doesn't crap on the woke, he'll get more work. They always higher their own.

It should've been a pastiche of Cape Fear

Never understood why the director thought people looked up to the joker. No one looked at arthur like a hero
Plenty did and do. People treat him as a symbol of anti-capitalism, anti-morality. 2 bit wannabe Nietzschians who've never had a job loved him.
Marxists do, and edgelords.
@@Picniclno not Nietzschians. Nihilists. The first movie was nihilist garbage and people actually sympathized with joker even at the end.
It's mostly just the media claiming that. Same media claiming people would shoot up the theaters. Same media claiming fans are toxic. It is the media that is toxic.
Nope. I'm sure a few losers did but a few losers love serial killers and always have. Most people liked it because it was a compelling portrait of how a decent guy was turned bad by his environment. People aren't as dumb as you think. And you're not nearly as smart as you think you are.
It is good that you mentioned Matrix 4. Actually nobody remembers about this film. If anyone discusses the Matrix series they might have skipped that film already and nobody would notice. Same is going to happen to Joker 2. Those who enjoyed the first Joker will still enjoy it and happily declare the second movie never happened.
we did it to Highlander
This pile of crap tarnishes the first movie.
Once I knew Lady Gaga was in it I knew it was going to be shit.
I knew this would be terrible when I found out it was a musical and I was right. Todd Phillips 🖕 for negating the first Joker film and making a pointless sequel.
we were not supposed to like the joker in the first film, people were supposed to view him as a "dangerous incel" with all their political crap attached to him so white men could learn to not be "toxic"
Todd Phillips unintentionally created a antihero that people liked - i think i read somewhere he was disapointed about that.
The most relatable scene was when Authur said... I don't feel like signing anymore... the cinema erupted in an applause 👏🏻!
Spoiler alert 🚨
When he stopped singing is when Arthur became whole and was no longer fragmented with Joker. Lights and music were big keys throughout the film. Music filled the mental gaps and fantasies in his mind.
I don’t think this was bad, but is anti first film. It’s like a message of anti idolization and more. It’s the origin story of the real joker.
I don’t think we needed a sequel but I get it.
@Suavecenzo but did it need to be a gay musical to make that point?
Signing?
@@frankthecat1660 A gay musical? The songs are just classic standards.
@@frankthecat1660 I don’t think sexuality was even in question because of a musical. They literally say they use music to deal with and heal the fragments of a broken mind in the film.

Don't forget the message.
✅
Go away now.
A story about a nobody who reaches out to strike back at the system that is abusing him but then chickens out and is betrayed by everyone, cucked and then killed is so uplifting and full of substance. There was no point in that story.
Oh so he gets killed by the end?
Pfff, maybe that was Todd Phillips way of making sure he didn't have to make a third one.
@@MoonPhantom Its implied Heat Ledger Joker killed him at the end and he was never the Joker, just some crazy random loser.
@@frozen1762 Yeah that sounds like them trying to replicate the twist from the first movie.
That the riot the joker created inspired a random goon to shoot down Bruce Wayne's parents making the Joker the cause of the creation of Batman even if inadvertently...
But that new twist is obviously not NEARLY as smart nor nearly as on point. I mean the original twist was very thematic of the movie that things people do or don't do have consequences going beyond just one person, it's a butterfly effect.
Fleck is a consequence of the world that ignored him, and all the people who treated him as they did, and so Batman becomes a consequence of fleck and so on... This new twist seems very desperate to be as smart.
They pulled a Last of Us 2 and told the fans of the first film go F-off. It's an ongoing trend in western entertainment.
138 dislikes = Gaga simps thinking this movie was good..
Flopga doesn't have simps. She has delusional gay fans 😅😅😅
Yes exactly 💯
The movie contradicts itself and the first one multiple times. The fact that you don’t know what to trust as being real or in his head (like the sex scene) makes me not care about anything nor trust anything.
It reminds me of the author of Fight Club. He got triggered that non brainwashed men liked it.

I hope this movie doesn’t even get with sniffing distance of breaking even.

@MrHReviews Joker 2 is a troll on Warner Bros, the folly of two...meaning the folly of a sequel that was a studio money grab. Todd Phillips fleced WB for 20 million, and did not want to make this film. This is like Rob Zombies Halloween 2, another FU to the studios. Todd knew they were gonna push sequels...so he burnt it down intentionally. This is not a FU to fans...it's A FU to studio executives. Shot out to PPP from Kino Casino for this awesome take I stole.

This wasn’t Joker
It was a Joke! 🤡
The fact that the box office and audience cinemascore so far has been worse than The Flash is embarrassing.
Idiolize is one of many terms that are used in such a hyperbolic manner. The fact that people still want to act like the human mind can't separate fiction from non-fiction is wild to me. You can be absolutely enthralled and mesmerised by a fictional character that does horrible things, but feel the complete opposite for a real life counterpart or close enough to one. It's the very fact that you know it's fiction that you don't feel awful for enjoying The Joker, Darth Vader, Hannibal Lecter etc.
"Masterpiece" is another overused term, and does not apply to the original Joker.
Strange to say, well that madam web wasn't that bad looking back now lol from borderlands to now this, well I'm guessing Directors are seeing whom can make the biggest flop lol
I thought that his death was poetic but it wasnt earned tho to be honest. And the grape scene wasnt needed. I think they shouldve trimmed down some musical numbers, too.
There was a grape scene??? Wait wtf I just watched this movie and I didn’t see NOTHING like that ..
@@xasachi Well they didn't show it, but it was implied when the guards ripped off his clothes. And the one the inmates said "what did y'all do to him??" and he said nothing, they threw him back into his cell and the camera just focused on his blank face while his clothes are ripped. It also is the reason he had a change of heart about being the joker, the guards broke his confidence and spirit.
@@Zeroantagonist88 that's seriously messed up. We didn't need Arthur to be graped to get his character to feel broken. That's shitty writing. It's almost as if Todd Phillips resents Arthur.
@@Missjunebugfreak I don't understand why it took that route, and yeah, it is messed up.
Folie a Deux probably refers to Arthur's internal struggle because they're trying to frame Joker as a separate identity. Arthur and Joker share their madness.
This movie should have learned from sweeney todd on how to make a musical in maddness it would have worked for sure
Musicals are gay.
So sad that people would rather watch a bad film instead of supporting a good one like TF One...
In many ways I feel like Joaquin and Todd Philips are sending everyone a message of “you get what you f**king deserve”. They didn’t want to do a sequel and not every film needs a sequel yet WB pushed and pushed for one. It was always meant to be a ‘one off film’ so the WB execs got what they deserved - an unnecessary, forgettable sequel that subsequently sucks despite having all the talent and money behind it.
They just did what audience didn't want, but also it feels like the sequel is the most realistic continuation and true to the character of Arthur. He could never be a comicbook prince of crime, and when at the end he says that he is basically fed up with the act, people walk away from him, and this is a mirror to the audience, because after watching the first movie and entirety of the second one, learning who Arthur is, they still wanted him to be THE Joker, after all of what is shown and knowing that he puts on Joker as a mental armor, they still don't care for him and only want a theme park of carnage and killing as THE Joker. I'm not a big fan of this direction of the sequel maybe, and also i think he shouldn've been singing but he should've been only dancing, singing ruins the style of his joker, takes away all the chilly mistery, but this is still the most realistic continuation. If in the sequel they'd establish him as a typical Joker, it wouldn't make sense, Arthur as a person can't carry this out. As much as people hate on it right now, some will come to understand that this is a true portrayal of him as a person, he can't be something you want him to be.
I now wonder if the first movie was supposed to have the same effect on people who they thought might like it.
For me it was about a man who had become engulfed by his shadow, whichever way he looked, wherever he walked... Where it fell down for me was that the proverbial handing over of the torch (Fleck to the man who would become Batman's Arch-nemesis) was the unspoken draw which could've made this film a definitive investment of all resources, except that didn't really happen or take any kind of definitive shape. I liked the idea that 'The Joker' is an idea and Fleck was its progenitor. Imagine if the bombing of the court room was THE Joker's opening statement to Gotham authorities (it also killing Fleck...) then he would leave a calling card saying something like "No more clowning around - J". Gotham would have but a hint of what is to come and that the debacle of Fleck's trial had birthed a criminal that Gotham is not prepared for. It could have been soooo threateningly good and directional in terms of honouring its actual setting. It is certainly a missed opportunity and one that I would lie at the feet of unhealthy ego powerplay in tinsel town.
I'm certainly on board with the idea of Jack Napier killing Fleck in this way (Jack not caring if the bomb freed or killed Arthur). It would have been a better ending I daresay.
I actually like to imagine that the convict who stabbed Arthur is Jack Napier.
I think Hollywood hated a character that challenges the elites - that's why they humiliated Arthur at the end by raping and killing off the idea of Joker.
It really just feels like movies are made as either JUST cash grabs or to spite the audience. Nobody wants to make a great movie to entertain everyone (except probably Deadpool 3).
The first Joker movie was not made just to entertain. Only the stupid bulk of the masses cheered for the villain. The Joker is not a good guy. Arthur before he murdered was the good guy.
Hollywood decided this movie was loved by "incels" and so decided to try and ruin it with a sequel. As if sequels stop their previous movies existing...?
I didn't see much of the first movie as the trailer didn't seem appealing to me but in general, why make a joker movie if its got nothing to do with batman and/or the justice league, you get what I'm saying? I think a lot of people probably went to see the first one e pecting some kind of superhero cameo or at least see him meet batman, which is where I assumed this film was going to go, but it just seems like it's all about his mental health, its all about a crazy man in court? You can do that in an episode of law and order right?
At 3:34, Mr H spoils the ending of the film before warning us. The film sucks but if you want to watch it spoiler free, don't watch ahead of that time.
From what I heard it sounds like a humiliation ritual so they could own the chuds who liked the 1st one. So bizarre
I haven't watched neither Joker 1 nor 2. I don't care about that type of movie. But from your comment at 3:20. As a tinfoil hatter who's been digging the cult, what you describe is exactly how the overlords view the people, and exactly how they've been treating us for eons. The senseless death of Arthur doesn't make sense to you, because you're on the side of the people. But it makes absolute sense to the overlords. Either the director shows you what's his real belief and that gives you an idea on which side he's part of, or he's just another cog in the matrix attempting to wake up more in(cels)mates.
I share this tinfoil hat 👍
---> *_This movie is as if they were forced to make Joker look like an absolute loser because IRL, so many had done crimes dressed as Fleck's Joker it had become a dire problem and the Government said WB had to clean up this mess._*
*_The killer mutilates himself in the background as Fleck dies; he slices a smile on himself, sorta like "do you know where I got these scars?"; so I think that might be Ledger's Joker? I don't know if the timelines fit? There was an awful lot of IMAX cityscape shots, like in the Nolan movie._*
*_Did Fleck actually have a visitor? If so, who was it? If not, the guards set him up for this._*

Emasculated Caucasian males, that’s who made this movie.
Coming 2027 Joker III - "The Joke's On You" - Starring Corey Feldman.
That would be hilarious based on the fact that Feldog is the main character.
Joaquin sang in "Walk the Line" and he was perfect at imitating Johnny Cash who can't sing. Put him next to a professional singer, and it's just throwing shit in my face literally would have been less upset if someone did that to me than i was with this movie that made no fucking sense. Literally left a bad taste in my mouth, i walked out the cinema, no. I bulleted out the cinema after this film faster than i would have if the building was on literal fire. Worth it for Joaquin though, good job bro.
Once Arthur started singing I started checking out. Russell Crowe's vocals in Les Miserables were less irritating. The fundamental flaw in this movie is making it a musical. It takes away from the story. Now I hate Arthur instead of pitying him and want him to come out on top. He's not the Joker so re-title these movies Arthur Fleck 1&2. A complete and total misfire in spectacular fashion. Hope the paychecks were worth it. HACKS!
I'm not a fan of Joker 2019. That is a 6/10 for me. This is easily 2 or 3/10
I interpreted the ending as if the guy who (SPOILERS) killed Arthur with a knife was actually Lady Gaga all along. She didn't even exist. He imagined he connected with someone for the first time in his life ever when Gaga was actually all along a guy who saw Arthur in that asylum at the beginning of the movie. Because before he stabbed him do you notice how he walks like a female? Plus if you think about it, that guy kinda worshipped him the way he looked at him and smiling at him in that asylum while Gaga also did that. Also, when Harley and Arthur were performing on stage (not really) and she shot him, the screen turned to that guy stabbing him. So essentially... Harley (Gaga) was that guy who stabbed Arthur... so...Arthur made out with a guy? Was that guy trans or something? wtf? lmao
Lol you've been smoking some good stuff tonight!
@@robertmorrison6727 I wish lol!
🤡🃏 Joker was a stand alone that never needed a sequel. The ending nod to a classic Joker was eye opening for me. Yeah the score was decent and the cinematography gave some beautiful shots. To be fair Joaquin Phoenix i thought sang a lot better in Walk The Line now that film is golden in my opinion. 🎙🎸
I totally agree.
Well that's because Joaquin did vocal training to sound like Johnny Cash for Walk The Line. Here it seems they didn't give him any time to do actual vocal prep work.
Brutal, but I could tell from the trailers…. I’m not a musical guy, and DEF not a fan of Lady Gagme
The audience that made the first movie over a billion dollars aren't the ''right'' audience. The sequel is for the elusive modern audience Hollywood covet.
The title follie a deux isnt refering to Arther and Lee, its about Joker and the audience who enjoyed the 1st one.
To sum up this movie, I would say.. It's like “the Last Jedi” had a baby with “Terminator Dark fate” and turned out be “Joss Whedon’s Justice League” This movie should just be called “Joker 2 Folly”
Thats why they call it Hollyweird
I really liked it a lot but I think a lot of people will be dissapointed that put a different interpretation on the first movie than I did.
The payday for Joaquin Phoenix, Todd Phillips and Lady Gaga for Joker 2 is equal to the whole budget of the first movie. Warners should have negotiated backend deals with them and maybe Todd Phillips wouldn't have been so quick to give the middle finger to the fans. Now they're all going to be laughing to the bank as WB takes the hit for this huge bomb.
Still seeing mixed reviews about this... some people hate it, others like it.
Think I'll have to ignore everything I'm hearing and make my own mind up.
Interesting .... haven't heard a single positive review.
All reviews bashed this movie. It’s sitting at 30% at rotten tomatoes for both critics and audience.
Deadpool and wolverine is a better movie than joker 2
This film had so little to say that the only thing it had was telling us that, "Oh remember that first movie we didn't mean any of that."
The director got revenge on the producers for ...one... offering him so much money he could not refuse to do it and... two...because they made him use Lady Gaga... like the producers demanded her to be used...not the way HE wanted to use her. Had Lady Gaga been allowed to actually act, and the film had had a cognizant script, her, with Phoenix, might have made a really great movie. Instead, the producers forced Gaga to be a carnival act. I think if a really professional editor took all the footage ...all of it... and reedited it, so it made sense, the streaming version could be sellable.
1. Harley was 1000% underutilized and I will argue that you can take her out of the movie and literally nothing will change
2. The musical aspect serves no purpose and added very little
3. Todd Phillips added an unnecessary rape scene where the guards rape Arthur and then had joker admit to his crimes in the following scene. What a blatant slap in the face to victims of SA.

As a French speaker, when I saw that they even named the title as crazies times 2 in French, instantly I was kinda hooked and interested but nope....that title did not do nothing for the film at all
The premise should have been that ""JOKER" is a movement, not any particular person.
Wow. So the studio wasted millions of dollars on a movie I wasn't going to watch; just to spite me?? Good one, Hollyweird! Ya really showed me.🤜🤡🤛
I don't think that it hates the fans, but he wants the fans to hate the studio for forcing him to make it. Just like you realized near the end, he did it to specifically destroy the legacy and force anyone who sees this movie to write it out of their head-cannon.
I don't agree that trying to subvert something from the first film means that it hates the audience. There were problems with the pacing of this movie, and it should have been edited down. The marketing was misleading, but that's common for a lot of movies these days.
Oliver Stone did the same with Gordon Gekko in Wall Street 2. He never intended for Gordon Gekko to be liked so he made him a "realistic looser" in the second iteration.
Most of the "Joker's" dialogue in the real world of this movie is with that southern accent. So even when he is the "Joker" he is playing somebody else.
The matrix redirections doesn’t hate strong female leads. Naiobe’s importance couldn’t be underestimated in that

Surprisingly, gaga was watchable, but the plot was missing entirely.
From what I remember, correct me if otherwise but the first movie was supposed to be something totally different it wasn't even supposed to involve the joker or any DC continuity. I think WB forced the director to incorporate the joker into his film when it was supposed to be a different film about an mentally unstable guy going off the rails. The first one was an successful fluke because it's not initially what it came out to be and rode off of joker IP.
I'm not surprised that the second joker movie failed badly because it's not what he wanted it to be in the first place. Warner Bros probably made him make this movie to ride off the success of the last and because of how the last one turned out he purposely made this one fail with spite because of the vision and creation difference he initially had.
I didn't like the first film. I was pissed off Vudu duped me into buying it on sale for $7.99. I'm a Batman guy, but I'm watching this film like this made $billion? It wasn't poorly directed, just wasn't for me. The sequel? No interest what so ever in watching it.
How I'd fix the movie is start off with him being the joker instead of bringing him back half way through, introduce more characters in Arkham and have a rebel against the guards/ prison escape plot to gain revenge on the jury type movie.
Make it after the trial , this section takes up too much of the film and doesn't do much with it,
have a plot about the Joker being a split personality which is touched upon but again wasted who in charge Arthur or Jokerand
Have over the top musical numbers rather than singing a few notes for 30 seconds.
Have conflict over what murders he commited in the past and innocent people dying due to his supporters.
go with the themes of celebrity and treatment of mentally ill in prison
cut the movie by 40 mins
The movie could've worked but it was mainly 2 hrs 20 mins in 2 locations. a jail and a courtroom.
You didn’t like his Foghorn Leghorn impression? That was the highlight of this whole waste of time looney Tunes venture
