What we did was leave the big suitcases at the hotel we stayed at(we asked them and was no problem). As you only need essential stuff for one night, no need to bring everything. We also had people come for one night with everything and they found it a bit of a hassle but had no choice!
We stayed at the 3 star Acoustic Hotel, quite a nice and central place, with friendly staff and very affordable price. At the time of stay it was even cheaper booking the cruise to the halong bay at the hotel compared to many individual booking companies. Can you suggest should we carry our luggage’s there or we should take backpacks for 1 night stay?

In our case and usually it anchors for the night and during the morning it started sailing again!
