Thank you once again, Visio Racer! I ♥️ outboards!
I don't even have a boat but I always want to buy an outboard when I watch one of your videos on them.
I like outboards for many of the same characteristics that I love motorcycle engines for; the design brief calls for high power output yet within a very limited space, and with a reasonably light weight. Reliability is crucial. As someone who has spent a good deal of time aboard boats large and small, I would make unstoppable reliability and durability the #1 priority were I seeking engines for a boat.
That being said, i really don't want an outboard (outboards) for a boat.
I want to put one in a car, and/or a motorcycle! This V10 would be awesome in a compact, lightweight mid-engined sports car.
Then again, a vintage 2-stroke V8 would be a wild engine to build a car around... this is when I start wishing for an unlimited budget and a comprehensive workshop for fabricating things from all materials.
Well, anyway, you've put a smile on my face this morning. I'm such an engine geek. You do wonderful work, keep it up!
Oh, I keep meaning to mention- You probably know about this one. Late in the Second World War, Rolls-Royce designed and built prototypes of one of the most insane engines ever conceived. It was to be an aircraft engine, and it was a 2-Stroke petrol V-12 (!) with sleeve valves called the Crecy. I'd love to hear your thoughts about it.

I loved the build I saw years ago on UA-cam of the guy who built a drag car out of a two stroke boat v8.

True, but you don't service your car engine every 100 hours. So clearly meant for rich people with rich hobbies. As a kid I buzzed around in a 17 feet really basic fibreglass boat with a 20 hp Johnson engine. Probably ran for 10 years and never was serviced, and never had issues. Us poor people get by with simpler toys that have longer longevity.

And maintain them. Oh and lets not forget the rest of the boat. These owners are hundred thousandsires and millionaires. Big money. I like the AMG boats with 4 TTV8s 😂 absolutely nuts. I can only imagine costs of operating one of these high output 4 motor boats. I know a few people with "cheap" 35 to 43k 125hp boats. And they complain about fuel and maintenance costs constantly.

They are in wildly different categories, though. The V12 is a huge beast that you won't be strapping on a smaller performance boat. It also has a two speed transmission and pivots at the lower instead of the transom. That all makes it weigh MUCH more. Besides the balanced nature of a V12 versus a V10 you wouldn't be shopping for both of them for the same boat.
