In this video he talks about eating at Zippys in Vegas and when I was in high school, me and my twin brother worked at the original Zippys in Mccully, and basically it was a take-out place with a couple of tables and seats on the side and a restaurant in the back,my brother still lives in the area, but it's not really cheap, to give you an idea about the menu, they are known for their beef teriyaki plate, which is two scoops of short grain rice, one scoop of macaroni salad, bed of lettuce and two slices of beef teriyaki for 20 bucks, not cheap at all, and since then they have expanded to the outer islands, now they are in Vegas and owned by the HIGA BROTHERS, as there office was in the kitchen, next to us cooking, nice guys both Japanese/AMERICANS 1st generation but they made a lot of money and the place is open 24/7,365 days and my brother sometimes had to help make there beef chili, one of their signature dishes but the counter ladies worked there for many years, as they probably retired from the place and it was always busy, nonstop but this video is very interesting to see the expansion to the mainland USA, that's before I went into the Army.
Nice history summary on Zippys. The McCully location was close to Waikiki and great for a late night bite after clubbing. Chili with rice, Won Ton saimin or a Zip-pac was a nice nightcap.
Good job with the video. CRAZY expensive but maybe they are counting on the tourists in Vegas. This food was designed to be economical with rice, pasta, SPAM but geez!
