My basement floor was poured 100 years ago and is very thin. I have the headroom to pour a new 4" to 6" slab. With proper prep, rebar, expansion joint material, etc. is that something that can be done?

What was the cost of this job if you dont mind me asking? I have a 1000sf basement, it already is compacted and has a vapor barrier over it. I literally just need someone to supply and place the concrete.

A basement is usually 4in thick. We charge 4-7 dollars a sq ft, depends what the job looks like, how much work it's gonna take to prep. Since your ready to pour it will be cheaper. Anywhere from $1.50 a sq ft, if you buy concrete -- to $4 bucks a sq ft if the contractor buys concrete. Location and price of concrete is also a factor. I'm not familiar with your local prices. If you buy the concrete it will make it cheaper for you as well. Then you just need someone to place it

I am converting my two car garage into a master suite. It’s cinder block construction. I already walked in the garage doors. I want to pump in six inches of concrete on top of the existing four inches to make the space above grade and to avoid a very SMALL crawl space. The flooring will be carpet and tile. Do you have to work the concrete past the point of screeding it flat? It’ll be covered so I’m just wondering if I can tackle it. Thanks! Great video BTW

Sounds like a big project. If we cover concrete with anything, we screed it, and I always use my Darby and make it smooth. Nothing after that

Thanks!!! I meant to say I BLOCKED in the garage doors. It’s basically like filling in a basement like you did. I’ve done small concrete pads but nothing this big. I really feel like I can do it. I’d hate to mess it up tho. Thanks for the reply!

I thought you meant walled in. Same thing haha, I knew what you meant. If you've done small ones you know how to screed and stuff. I would at least get a helper or 2 to help place and rake the concrete. If you've poured before I'm sure you could do it

    No mesh, no rebar?

No, they put a lot of fiber in it. I'm sure it'll be fine. This stuff is so strong it barley ever cracks in the saw cuts

We usually use a power trowel to finish the concrete, but when the pours are small we finish by hand. So I got mud boards, and rubbed the whole floor with a mag
