That is the real debate currently. Is it the government's responsibility to fix this problem? Would more taxes and government spending "fix" or solve the homeless problem. Should it be fixed by state or local government.
I promise voting red or blue will not make the problem go away because the problem (causes) of homelessness is more complex than one bad life choice or lazy and wants to love off of the government dime.

I tried to help a young man a couple weeks ago. Put him in a hotel with food and clothes. I gave him a job. This was on a Friday work starts on Monday. I told him relax for a few days and get himself cleaned up ready to work. By Monday I found out he had been kicked out of the hotel for noise complaints. The manager said there were 6 people in a king bed room. They were all drunk and smoking weed in the room. They tried to fight the hotel staff one ended up in jail fighting with the police. I was refunded my deposit and one night rental since they were kicked out on Saturday. I unfortunately couldn't give the guy a job (we go into people's homes to do repairs). I explained if I can't trust you in a hotel I can't trust you in a customer's home. He had every excuse how it wasn't his fault. By the end of our conversation I was told how I was a bad person and only wanted to pretend to help. Never again will I step on that limb.

Have faith in JESUS CHRIST as LORD and SAVIOR for HE SAVES ❗️
      *What is the Gospel?*
The true gospel is the good news that God saves sinners. Man is by nature sinful and separated from God with no hope of remedying that situation. But God, by His power, provided the means of man’s redemption in the death, burial, and resurrection of the Savior, Jesus Christ.
      Ephesians 2:8-9
For it is by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of GOD, not a result of works, so that no one may boast.
      Romans 10:9
9 because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.
      JESUS CHRIST can come anytime!

From Canada... I woke up one morning to find a homeless couple camping in my backyard. I told them they were welcome to stay as long as they kept everything clean. I gave them a gift card for $50 to Harvey's burgers.
6 days later they left leaving their tent, sleeping bags, old clothing and garbage all over the yard for me to clean up and take to the dump. They also stole an Amazon package that was delivered while I was at work.
I was disappointed and felt really gullible!
I won't bring myself to let this happen to me and my wife again. I did my part.

We think it's because we've been wronged, but sometimes it is actually a blessing. For instance, maybe I really want to buy a particular house and don't get it. Then, a few weeks later I find an even better house. Or, maybe I don't get into a particular college I want to attend. But, I end up going to another one and meeting my spouse or learning about a particular field that catapults my career. So yes, that quote is very accurate.

How can anyone who literally has none of their basic needs met, be expected to climb out of the hole of poverty, illness (mental and physical), and discrimination. It’s nearly impossible without someone else to help. I watched my dad go from being a homeowner, the manager of a roofing supply sales company, and an overall great person, fall into the traps of mental illness combined with drugs and alcohol. He lost everything. He lost his job, home, all possessions, and his mind. Lived in a tent on the streets of San Diego for the last 15 years of his life, and ended up snuffing it by jumping off an overpass in El Cajon. I don’t wish that kind of pain on **anybody** he suffered for a long time, but now is at peace. RIP pops, sure do miss ya down here….

That is so nice of you. Sometimes s*** just happens. People can have a run of bad luck. It happened to me in March of this year my husband of 33 years died, the very same day the home that we rent was sold in a foreclosure auction and we, and I, got a 90 day notice. But I'm in the Bay area and I can't find a place. In 5 weeks I'm potentially going to be another one of the homeless out there. I'm up at 7:00 a.m. on Monday trying to make sure it doesn't happen but I don't think I have much control cuz no one wants to help or very few people almost no one. . . And only a ride here or there no actual help no one sitting down help me figure out what forms to fill out nothing like that... And everyone tells me I should want to keep living and I really don't. I'm going to end my life the very first day I'm homeless because there's no coming back for most and I'm shy and vulnerable and from a small town in New Hampshire I'm not going to make it on the street in San Francisco. Loss of dignity I don't even want to try.. I'll try everything I can to avoid it but if I can't it'll be the end and I'm sure I'll welcome that end by the time it comes because I have known no joy for many many years. I can't imagine ever feeling happy again...

Good job, everyone! This is what happens when compassion takes the lead and ego takes a backseat. So very happy that the homeless couple is being presented with opportunities to possibly change their circumstances. The homeowner is someone who is part of the solution rather than adding to the problem. How harmonious and very refreshing! ! ! Love in action.

Dystopian story reframed as feel good. City should have put them up in a shelter. Not the responsibility of the homeowner to accommodate them. In this country, we have the resources to aid the homeless and we should.

An “unhoused” couple. That’s not even a word. My phone struggled to form that into a word…why make it all cushy? Call it what it is. Homeless.

Isn't she running risk of squatters gaining legal hold on property. Simply due of repeat squatting and non demand of vacating?

I am currently in a similar situation. One of my neighbors introduced me to a man who was homeless and he was looking for handyman work. He is an electrician by trade. I had some work I needed done on my house and while he was working he asked if he could store his tools in my shed. He had been living at the park for about a year and carried his tools around in a cart. I said yes of course. I even said he could stay in the shed if he wanted to while he worked. It doesn't have running water but it is insulated and has power. He has been living in the shed now for about 3 years and he maintains my yard and does odds and ends stuff around my property in exchange for a place to stay. It really doesn't take much effort to be kind.

Years ago, my child with Autism and I were kicked out onto the street. I was not a citizen at the time and could not legally work. I did not have 1 penny to my name, despite me being straight A student in my country. It took 1 person to save our lives, literally !
It is still hard at times but most certainly, kindness is what makes us human.

Good intentions but as someone who deals with the homeless daily, being nice to one, more will come and expect to be treated the same and will get violent if not.
