Laundromat Owner Moves Family After Repeated Burglaries

- For more than a generation, Derek Thoms and his family owned a number of laundromats in California. However, his laundromats were burglarized 12 times in the last six months. Within a week, thieves stole $5,000 in quarters and destroyed an $11,000 change machine. Although they were all caught on camera, Thoms says nothing's been done. His final straw was when thieves came to his home and tried to steal his truck. He and his family decided to move 2,000 miles away to Alabama.
I’m frustrated of how the government isn’t acknowledging anything that’s happening to these family’s even after this has been going on for months, and the fact that they’ve haven’t tried identifying the burglars or helping the family is even worse. :| it just appears like they care for companies associated with them.
Do you think the government is on your side?

It's a bit of a mischaracterization when generalizing Oakland to represent crime rates in all of California and Muscle Shoals for all of Alabama. While it is apparent that California and many other states have experienced a recent increase in burglary and crime, it still seems like typical media sensationalization to attribute the family's problems to be somehow state-driven. Parts of Alabama, just like any state would not be desirable and likely to hold the same problems as Oakland. A more logical comparison if trying to determine whether California as a whole is problematic would be to do a heads up comparison of crime in areas with the same population density and socioeconomic demographics across multiple states. But I guess most people don't have the time or patience to read and think more deeply on the topic and would rather just take oversimplified stories at face value.
