Just seems like a bad/ott translation to me. 薄鈍(usunoro)'s dictionary definition is: "half-wit; fool; simpleton".
I think they either misheard it (since the syllables are simillar) or i think retarded had more of a impact espacially picolo and buu's reaction show that.
This, he never said anything as intense as "retard", it's just another case of fansubs adding swears to everything to appeal to teenagers. Both translations are inaccurate.

@@WBCakaWBrickCraftInteresting if true, I gave it the benefit of the doubt since fans are usually the ones to butcher translations with swears like this, but if it's not a fansub then it's even worse since it means somebody was actually paid to do this.
Then again Funimation is also "official" even though their translation is also wrong.
Either way, none of the clips are a good translation of what's being said.

I am just finding out about this scene. Thank you for uploading.
Here's my 10 cents. I do understand that this is way out of character for Son Gohan to say, but on the other hand, it is what the original creators intended, whether we like it or not. I do think there is a line and it hasn't been crossed yet in my opinion, especially given that the subs aren't necessarily 100% correct as any other lesser form of the same type of insult, say 'fool' or 'idiot', could have been used to translate "usunoro", from my understanding of the comment section.
Having said that, I am disappointed, yet again, with how Funimation handled this scene on their original dub. You can argue that sarcasm is better than an insult or that it wasn't within Gohan's character to say it, but this was what the original version intended, after all.
I believe Gohan's divine transformation through the help of the Old Kai, which even Piccolo could sense, his Saiya-jin pride and his fury at the realization of the death of his mother, his friends and pretty much his entire race when he arrived followed by Buu's mocking comment about how tasty they all were may have ultimately (pun intended) caused Gohan to deliver such a blunt and direct comment at the creature responsible for it all.
Though it is quite tragic given the fact that Buu manages to outsmart all of them along with the fact Gohan looks absolutely bad once Goku arrives and even misses to catch an earring. Blame the writers I guess... and the fans for choosing Kakarot over his Son Gohan, I guess.
But that's a-whole-nother can o' worms.

Buu doesn’t really outsmart Gohan, he just uses an op technique no one knew he had access to. It’s like saying you outsmarted someone by pulling an unknown gun on them.
He missed the earring because he didn’t expect it and it was small lol Doesn’t look that bad, just funny. Goku screwed up by doing it so suddenly and far away with an object so small. The way some people perceive things is hilarious. Goku is the one far more at fault for Gohan missing the earring, yet people stupidly try to blame him for it while giving Goku a pass. It’s just bias.
I love how Buu, Goten Trunks and Piccolo all have the "HOLY CRAP" face after Gohan calls Buu a retard, even they can't believe he said it

I believe I'm the only one who actually loves Gohan's:"Nice day". Gohan at that point had become stronger than everyone jus like in the Android saga against Cell. Obviously everyone knows his own power made him overconfident back then, and the same thing happened here. The fact that he approached Buu, the enemy Goku couldn't defeat and the enemy who made Vegeta sacrifice himself and the enemy the Kais feared so much with a simple taunt such as a "Nice day" showed how cocky Gohan was then. Unfortunately we all know what happened next so yeah....

But the point of the scene is that Gohan was out of character, he was extremely cocky during this fight, something he only ever did when he snapped against Cell. Calling Buu esencially a moron was to provoke him since Buu is like a child. If he just said "nice day" Buu would have barely reacted.
