I grew up during that era. Robertson and West were arguably the best guards at that time.

With Walt Frazier coming in a close 3rd.

@@corneliusneil6128 Walt Frazier was a great, great, player no question. However, Hal Greer of the 76ers was generally regarded as the 3rd best guard of the 1960’s, right below Jerry West and Oscar Robertson. Hal Greer was rated as #3, not Clyde. Clyde was more dominant in the early 1970’s however.

    • @frederickrapp5396

Not “arguably.” Are you kidding? They were the best guards at that time, with Hal Greer #3, and arguably of all time, alongside of MJ and Magic.

Notice. No 3 point line. That means that the lane is clogged. The ball is moved around including inside the paint.

The Lakers set the win streak record that year with 33 in a row and went 69 and 13 on the way to the NBA title. West had a great year, averaging 26 points a game and led the NBA in assists.

I believe this is the year that the Lakers won 69 games and the NBA championship. West averaged over 25 pts and led the NBA is assists per game. Not bad for a player near the end of his career!

Most basketball experts rate West as the slightly better defensive player and Robertson having a slight edge offensively. Underscore the word “slight.” These were the 2 best NBA guards of not only the 1960’s, but of all time, alongside Magic and MJ.

West could score with any guard of his time, I think Oscar was a better ball handler and set his pace and controlled the pace better than any guard ever

by looking at these games, it shows why players nowadays are much better than players back then.
And it also shows that we all should stop comparing different generation for the top 10 greatest players of all time cause the NBA is a lot different

Players were a lot smarter back then and more fundamentally sound. Today's game is dribble and dribble some more and shoot a 3.

    • @epeon7

not the same game. The 3-pot shot and now palming is legal. Today's game is all about the show. Really depends on the rules you play under.
A classic example was Bob Petit. He always went to the hoop and always went forward with his shot. Why? He is trying to draw fouls. In his day a typical line would be 9 out of 20 for 18 points. But he would 10 out of 12 at the foul line. So he would get 28 pts or average 1.4 pts per shot. Today, they are taking 3 point shots trying to hit 40%. So people don't go to the hoop, they don't pack the inside the way they used to. It is also harder to cover guys today because of palming. this allows crossover moves and all that. In Oscar's time that was illegal
