Congratulations Amy/Maya for winning TAR25! So proud of you two for earning what only one-eleventh of the teams have achieved. Madison, Wisconsin looks like a really calm and nice city.
here's a thought, how about figuring a way to not have to eat so much? more food is not the issue because we throw so much of it away everyday. But what if we could eat less and have the same energy vitamins and nutrients and grow stronger?
Keeping the sweet girls aside for a minute, I as a chemical engineer who has been trained a little in basic as well as organic chemistry, and I find all this processing and manipulation of food frankly revolting. I do get that sometimes you need it like in army rations, during natural disasters, famines and what not. But the extent where it has reached tody is just too much, do we really need to eat so much? To have everything we crave only hours or minutes away? Okay one might say that we as a human civilisation have evolved and we should enjoy the advances that technology, management and peace provides, but is it truly safe, is it truly healthy? Look at the list of ingredients on a candy bar, fresh juice, anything, and just to get an initial sense of thir comlexity draw these chemical compounds. Have fun with your carbons, hydrogens and benzene rings. Now imagine some of these reacting with each other? After that some of the product react and some of the new products react with each other And the previous products And the initial ingredients? Crazy ain't it? Then this cauldron goes to your body and reacts with god knows how many enzymes and chemicals in your body to produce products that only god knoes how they affect your body. Would spectroscopy be able keep up with any of this? I know that I'm ranting and that there are probably safety measures in place to prevent things from going completely chemically wacko, but I just strongly dislike all this food science and technology stuff. And I can't help but think that how our forebears used to eat was much much healthier.
Elumio Merk All you are doing is appealing to disgust. All of your claims are empty and undefended. Stop arguing from emotion and let the real Scientists do their thing.
