There are so many people who have recipes for dishes that they would never share. I've literally been waiting for years for a mithai recipe from my aunt lol. Thank you for sharing your recipes and please don't ever stop! Your contributions will definitely help to keep our culture alive. I've never realized how much I appreciated home cooked food until I moved away from home and had to make it for myself. Each of your recipes takes me right back home to my mom's kitchen. I can't wait to try this next.
I haven't had bara since my grandmother passed away last year and usually she would make some for the family during Ramadan. So I was so happy to make this for my family! Thank you, it came out amazing! My mother said it was the best bara she ever tried! I added some scallion to my garlic/pepper mix and it was superb! Thanks for sharing Matthew!
I’ve never made Bara ever and I have followed this recipe and it never fails for the handful of times I’ve made it since it came out absolutely perfect👍🏽👍🏽 Thanks for sharing your recipe🙏🏽
I just mixed & whipped my dough. Patiently waiting now for it to rise. So excited to see and taste the final product. Also your recipes are amazing!!!!
First time seeing your cooking channel because my cousin told me about it and I am so glad I did. I can now try to make more tasty food. Thank you for sharing your recipe. Awesome help.
Matthew I am 65 years old and we did have the same type of Barack in Trinidad before you were born . I used to buy it in Valsayn shopping Centre at an East Indian delicacy store.
Happy Holi everyone! Matthew the bara seriously my husband said it's the softest and tastiest bara he has had ! Thanks to you! I would never have tried this if it wasn't for your video! Thank you!
I wish I watched your video before my first attempt yesterday 🤦🏽♀️ lol will try again with your really helpful tips (“beating” the bara, oiling fingers, etc). Thanks so much for this video!!
Matthew, thanks for the recipe. During my childhood in Guyana, Jessie was a food vendor who would come with her basket of Indian snacks. You brought back a very good childhood memory. Mango sour was the boss. Will try making.
Matts I am always sooo confused when other people show me how to make bara... but you give the measurements and step by step and texture at the end... I like that you always tell us the stove temperature...I will try this for sure... thanks
Wow so amazing. I am 50 years old and never made bara, crazy right but wanted to do something during this quarantine period for my kids, I can't wait. But no measuring, I bit it's the average method. Be blessed 🙏
I tried your bara recipe today, it came out perfect. It is so soft.the only thing I did different is I blend fine time and broad leaf with the garlic and pepper. Delicious.
I feel like I am watching my grandma cook in your videos . Few things you make I just enjoy never learned how to make . Thank you during quarantine my family is is now experiencing food I grew up on . Great Job keep it up ! We are a mixed culture family only Guyanese in my home 🤫🤗😆
Just saw this video, great job! You are very detailed in your instructions and easy to follow. I'm Trini and just wanted to correct you on Trini bara. Trini has couple variations of bara, so the ones you get with doubles are specifically for the doubles, but for Poojas and weddings or gatherings we make ours with ground urdi instead of ground yellow split peas and we don't put the spinach in it. So the doubles version is not really a bake, it's more soft and has has yeast in it, whereas the bake is more or less a roti dough with seasoning. I'm married to a guyanese so I make your version alot, I've been using fresh cilantro instead of spinach and I find it gives it more flavor:) Keep up the good work!
Good job Matthew! My mother taught me how to make bara and she make the best bara ever, she always stressed on how to make them perfectly round which i have now mastered, however in the end it is the taste that matters.
I enjoyed all the videos you putting up and I know you know how to cook cause I cook the the way you are keep up the good work.ps I also can eat anything from you cause you are very clean person I also look and observe those things thank you

Omg Matthew I only found you this morning on your roti video. I am in love with your recipes. I haven't had bara since primary school. I'm definitely trying this. What is spinach known as in Guyana or an alternative to it for the bara recipe. Thanks for your videos.
Since Gramma passed I thought it would be hard to make her recipes. Fortunately I came across your channel with great clear and concise recipes. The end result is very similar or if not the same as my families way of cooking. What part of Guyana does your fam hail from?
They are called bhaja in Mauritius 🇲🇺 we eat them with shattini (chutney) it’s basically a merge between tomato 🍅 salsa + salsa verde with lots of coriander and pinch of raw garlic 🧄, hot chilli 🌶 and onion 🧅 if made properly it will knock your socks 🧦 off. Bon appetit!!!

Definitely give it a try. You want it to be much softer than roti dough but you dont want it to be like a thick pancake batter. Needs to be able to be spread easily in your hands.

Spinach is known as bhajee in Guyana. I believe usually poi bhajee is chopped up and added. But in the states we add frozen chopped spinach
