I'm 73 and in generally degraded health but years ago I refurbed a Pearson Ariel from bow to stern and I sailed her alot but it was always inland sailing and I didn't make it to the ocean. But I envy those who do and if it's OK with you and the other young folks who choose this lifestyle and live it like ýa do, I'm gonna live vicariously through all of you and pray for you to exercise wisdom and wonderful experiences. God bless you kids.
O.K. I've watched your videos, at first I thought you were just like all others (sailors?) But you are for real!, I'm 71 years old and have sailed...back in the day... I will watch from now on. You have balls and grit young lady, inspirational to many.
She was raised on a sail boat so it's just home to her to be on the water, she has very little equipment she's making all the decisions and calls solo. She's great!
Leave it to a crusty old sailor to tell a young woman she has balls, haha! But then, she IS the man! Props for your user name...or then again, your name may very well be Christopher Hutchings. Either way...Miss you, Hitch!
Such a cutie, I really liked the opening of this video, and all those sharks too, You're brave, Also, I feel for you when you do get scared in that bad weather. Be careful out there...
Excellent storm experience and story, you bring back old memory in my head, funny how we choose to forget those experiences until a flash from others experiences log them up from our personal file in our head, all comes back w/ emotion, it's better than sound around vivid in color memory, feels and smells come back, thank you for the stimulus.
Love your videos!! Was always my dream to sail to far off lands, it never quite materialized for me but i did get some good sailing in, now I’m on the back side of 60 and with all these UA-cam videos the dream has never been stronger, waiting for the moment to arrive, in the mean time i hope you don’t mind me living vicariously thru you!! Cheers
Don't worry about your hair Captain, you look marvelous! Great job bringing Gecko through the numerous squalls. I'm glad you got to enjoy some quality time in the crow's nest after fighting through the squalls. Get some rest when you can. Sail on Captain, sail on!😎⛵👍👍
Very entertaining and down to earth/sea. It is all interesting with a hallmark of relaxing. I know you think sharks are entertaining but my love and life that somewhat revolves around you is stressed if there are too many or they are too big. Your wellbeing is far more important than another close up of a big shark.
Damn girl! You have to learn to have fun! Ha ha. Love the Monitor gear. Mine didn’t do as well as it was a bigger boat with a wheel. A tiller is far superior for the monitor. Much less friction and mechanical resistance. Simple and direct.
New sub. I would be absolutely petrified doing what you’re doing. At my age (74), I think I’ll remain a landlubber . You have so much knowledge and fortitude.😄😄
I've been steadily working through your catalogue and I didn't realize how long the engine raw-water issue was dogging your progress. So glad you got that sorted.
Here's a cool snorkel trick; As you're rising, blow just a bit of air into the snorkel. Face up, as you hit the surface, quickly move your head down. The snorkel should be without water and ready to use. The air expands as you go up, there by keeping the snorkel water free. It helps keep you from being too tired.
You are just living your best life girl. I'm so inspired by you and your resourcefulness. You have such a positive attitude, nothing seems to bring you down. I hope to have an epic adventure like this one day. Love your videos and look forward to them every 2 weeks. Thanks Holly!
Love your steady calm visually seen from here in Maine...you could write a story about the Endless Squal .. Remember the Endless Summer of surfing the 🌎? Oh you are too young to remember that.
Holly, Another great video! Agreed with another commenter - Please go up the stick with two halyards/lines. Many accidents could have been avoided if two lines were used on the hoist. Keep it up girl! Dean

That rain enclosure is pretty sweet 😃 I also like how you put teeth and little googley eyes on your radio or GPS (the yellow thing) 🤪 Love how you keep things simple and minimalistic. You're the real deal.
Great video. Nice of your friend to give you a tow. They must have a pretty strongbmotor. Their boat is heavy, plus gecko and 6 knots. Pretty good. The still looks like a great place to hang out after such a passage
Hooray!! You found a boat yard who can replace your prop shaft seal(s)...(I hope!) I have been concerned about the problem, and I was hoping that something good would come about to permanently fix it...
Thank you, yourself& channel add equilibrium to the sailing channels, a certain wild type of youthful freedom. Good Health to you, continued successful living.

Todas estas vivencias te conforman tu carácter y se marcarán, de manera indeleble, en tu rica vida. Mis respetos y admiración. Ya eres un marino de aguas azules.
What keeps you from breaching in those large swells? If you took a large wave over the bow it could swamp your cockpit couldn't it. I guess I just don't understand how your windvaine could guide you thru rough water and 30Knot winds. Love your adventure!!!
My wind vane has been able to handle everything I've thrown at it so far. I'm sure there are some conditions I'll have to hand steer through but luckily I haven't encountered them yet :)
yeah take me back where i belong was a great shot i selling all my boats an trucks an cruzing south soon thanks too you east coast bahamas an keep going south thanks you just ride it out i about 60 its time love it you in 40 knots winds 25 30 ft waves northeastern no fun i wish you smooth sailing
Reliving your childhood a bit there swinging in the boson's chair ;^) From the comments at the end, can we assume that Gecko has been taken out for some new bottom paint and a stuffing box rebuild?
First haul out since East coast? This is a long travel time and nautical miles. Iron out some issues. I hope you can install a hand diagram bilge pump. They work so well going deeper than my electrics.
What was your sail plan @ 12:20 during the high winds needing the tiller all the way over and still wanting to round up? Would a reefed main and a partially reefed headsail provide a better balance and less rounding up? Just a novice here, learning the ropes, but this is my understanding for those conditions.
I was rounding up because I was overpowered, but I couldn't leave the helm to reef the main without going head to wind and potentially ripping the sail. I banked on the fact that the squall would be shortish, and just hung on until it was over
@@WindHippieSailing So far I find those "hang on moments" too unnerving to enjoy and probably tend to overcompensate by reefing in lighter winds than necessary- often to the displeasure of some of my more intrepid crewmates. But I find in any winds above 12 mph, we still maintain a good rate of speed with the reefed sail plan and the helm easir to control. Did your experience in this squall change your strategies for sail trim looking forward?
ok the real question is how long did those cookies take in a boat oven cos they are slow?? like it took me 4hrs to cook a pre made Shepard pie in one once
Book... what was it called... Dang it, I can't remember. I think it was "Hard weather sailing" written by a guy that have competed in the Fastnet race several times among other things. Sadly I lent my copy to someone who forgot the address of the book. Very good practical tips on how to handle a boat focused on keeping control. And I can't find it via search engines either. Someone with better luck or that has it? One thing I can think of that might have helped you controlling the boat would have been a very small "sail" up front and low. say a square meter at most and mounted low. That would have taken some force off the rudder without increasing the lean of the boat much. While I doubt it would be possible with the amount of sail you got trapped with if you aren't familiar with it get used to "heave to" in your boat. (Though I suspect you already knows how to do this normally, can't remember if you mentioned it.)

I really really liked this episode, how you trained the Sharks to swim backwards 😂 and the view from inside the oven. Thanks for the laughs 😂✌☮
Haha thanks! It took a long time to train the sharks but I think it was worth it
You look sparkley. Whatever groove you got going on is popping.

I got so scared during that squall there's no where to hide out in the Ocean , you handled yourself the boat and the camera amazingly
I always enjoy seeing clips of your parents... They seem very cool and supportive of your lifestyle... Good shit! See ya in the next video! Cheers!
They are the coolest!!
Yes something different about this video, really liked it. You showed good sea skills in making the right decision to get out to sea.
