Those days, those memories... One of my friend, who had a car (imagine a LADA 1600!), told me in Summer '96: "Come, I show you something!" We went to the car park, and he started to play "Spring" with maximum volume! He was so proud to his sound system with those big speakers in the back of his car. :) I will never forget that moment. Greetings from Hungary
what really got me was the "there is no 160bpm music out there nowadays" - this interview is now 4 years old. and here we are, coming close to 150bpm on many techno events. one or two more years and the glory days of "good vibes" hard trance techno will be back, i'll bet on it ;) ps: rmb was the defining artist of my youth, thanks for all your great music
Yeah, DJs played around 150 -190 BPM when i was going to some electronic clubs in Hannover lately, after a really long hiatus. I didn't believe my eyes (and ears) that the young crowd's finally into faster stuff again. So there's definitely a chance we may see Rolf putting out fast energetic Rave music again. :)
I think so too - it all started with slow techno anyways - and then came melodic fast rave - if you look at the crowd and even the type of drugs in clubs today you see where this is going
1993-1996 "rave" - hard trance, happy hardcore and such were legit because of the lack of phones. People were actually dancing, and shaking at that rhythm. Nowadays it's visuals and DJs standing on top of the decks, and idiot crowd filming them with the phones.
I used to play Spring at school parties, the dancefloor would explode every time. I think RMB really stood out in the genre: amazing production quality even by today's standards, unique quirky style, great compositions. He simply has not made a single bad tune in my opinion.
Spring is one of the few "hymn" songs of the 90s. The 90s itself in a few minutes. Reality and Redemption are also my favorites, but if I hear Spring (especially along with watching its video), I travel back in time instantiously to the summer of '96, when I was 14 years old. Great memories... Thanks!
You were the inspiration in my whole life when it comes to my kind of music with 160bpm, It haunts me during last 25 years in a much energetic way. Yes RMB made the TREND silently......😍🤩
He is for sure! I used to listen to "Spring" a lot back in the 90s, so I was super happy when Rolf replied with a positive answer to my email request :)
He is one of my heroes! He made so much great stuff, from the early fast rave tracks to the newer ones (the incredible 13 Stories is one of the best albums ever made!). Thank you Rolf for your music!!!
I first heard spring on a hixxy set. It was completely different to anything I'd heard; listening to happy hardcore then hearing spring (or "the spring" as I still call it), it blew my mind. Instantly, it became my favourite tune. Then at my first big rave, hixxy played it at the sanctuary, and it was a moment that I still remember 20 years later. And it's still my favourite piece of music. It's so good. I don't think I'll ever get bored of it, and even though you can hear it's age now, it's still outstanding. It's perfect.
I remember when Spring came out. I think video clip was played on VIVA... My favorites were RMB, Legend B, Alien Factory and Scooter (yes good old Scooter - without lyrics). Dude looks so humble and down to earth and also we share similar passion for hybrid (sci-fi) film music.
Yeah Rolf is a very nice down to earth and talented guy, that studio.... wow! And no worries, I like Scooter too! :P Would love to do an interview with H.P. Baxxter one day ;-)
@@muzikxpress Wow thats could be amazing. Maybe an interview with Rick J Jordan instead of HP? :) He can tell you more about producing music and tech stuff
Still listen to Spring at least once a week in my upbeat 90ths playlist. Fantastic track. Remember hearing it for the first time as a youngster on a compilation album called "Mega Man Dance". 😅 Good times!
High Five RMB I love everything from 'Redemption' (1994) to 'Redemption 2.0' (2002) for the energy, unique style. Spring is great but you have many other great tunes "Wonders of life", the whole "Mission Horizon". Thanks man!
Found this video today, was listening to the song through some random playlist and went to youtube to find other remixes. I am thinking about a person on a bicycle happily ramping up the speed while listening to this through earphones.
Thank you for great interview. RMB is an idol for me from 90'... together with other "bit similar" band named Raver's Nature. "Spring" for me was already bit commercial but yes, very uplifting and great tune. For me RMB is "The place to be" track with special remix on Live at Mayday - Raving Society on 95. It blown me away when I heard it every time. And goosebumps from track "Feel The Flame". As well as "Love Ep", Land of the rising sun and I know for sure that my wedding first dance track will be RMB - Equinox :)))) Rolf! Keep working for great music and we see already that oldschool are coming back so never say never for "The Place To be in 2020"... Amen!
A very good interview. I liked the questions you asked and the responses given by Rolf. Fantastic job, Twan. I like Spring but my favorites are Love is an Ocean and Reality.
Rolf your great and very correct about the state of the charts these days well said about the rubbish aggressive rap music and all that crap EDM music .
Thank You for this cool interview. I was only wonder that you didn't knew that Rolf performed many times live before Spring came out. Anyway, Rolf is a master, he is a truly professional music creator with passion and love for unique sounds. I believe that there are still more people like me who are missing 90s stuff with fast tempo, rave melody and energy... Such a tracks like "Whispering", "No Obedience" and others are examples of something which was best in that music. I miss that energy in modern stuff. RMB ruled the music scene and Rolf you are da best! I hope that you will make your dreams true about doing film music for something well known. Good luck! Signed: your fan since around 95 :)
Thank you! And I couldn't find much information about the live performances online, hence my question. I always do a lot of research for my interviews, but especially from the older tracks / older days, not everything is easy to find. I only found out where he did perform (Mayday, Nature One etc etc), but I didn't find any info about when etc. And in that time internet wasn't that big yet as it is now, so not everything was posted all over the web ;-) I think I do know quite a lot about dance music, but of course I don't know everything ;-) Anyway, I'm glad you enjoyed the interview! "Spring" was the biggest hit of RMB in The Netherlands and it is one of my favorite tracks from that time, hence I asked Rolf if we could talk about that one :)
RMB is still one of my fave producer ever! I ve listened the This World Is Yours CD like 6 millions of time. It s a pity he does not release anymore with the RMB style :-|

Hopefully about "Dreams" and about "Never Alone". I'm also working on some other names, so stay tuned and thanks for the support! :)
IDK but that time I considered RMB as electronic producer of RAVE music. Track "Spring" was almost on every RAVE CD. Interestingly, he he did not mention RAVE here even once.
I think he was a friend of Rolf and had some connections to the rave scene. Also he had some ambitions in promo and marketing. Too sad that the friendship broke up in the later career of "RMB".
For my vlogs I'm looking for tracks that have been hits / popular in at least a few countries. This one only came out in the UK according to Discogs. Plus I can only do interviews with people that live close to me, since I don't have a travel budget for these vlogs. Or people that travel to The Netherlands for gigs etc. And I don't think the Tastexperience guys are still performing....
22:53 - "that is not my thing anymore..." As someone of the same age, same root music love (blade runner theme, JMJ, rockets) i can say "it has NEVER been our thing". the EDM thing has nothing in common with those years.
@@muzikxpress saw one older interview in german, so yeah you were right, Farid was doing calls and arrangements for videos and looking for ways to add meaning into them with the lyrics. He only is responsible for convincing rolf to add a second melody into Spring track, but haven’t got involved at all with production in any track. And yes they separated in not in good terms, unfortunately their friendship broke down with time
I wish I could tell him that buying 5 CDs a year is a lot for most people. That's such a disappointing reason to not release on CD. Crowd fund it! If even a small amount of people bought 5 CDs a year it would still be a major format. I'm shocked that he used such faulty logic there.
OK I understand the world loved "Spring". It a commerce track, engineered for commercial success. But to hear "this is my favorite RMB track".... ouch. I really expected a little more sophisticated taste on this channel.
Oh please, are you for real??? Your comment, ouch…. 😂 I like a lot of tracks that some people consider to be cheesy / commercial. I like what I like and I really don’t care if my taste is not “sophisticated” enough for you or anyone else.

2 Brothers on the 4th floor (Martin og Bobby Boer), with eighter Fly or Dreams. I cant really find to much info about the brothers, there is not really any good interviews and not much information, they must not have liked the spotlight, but im dying to know more about any of their hits :)
Charley Lownoise & Metal Theo, i mean where to start, those guys had so many hits, and are so likeable i would look to see you interview them. Btw did you hear "City Streets" that Charly Lownoise did with re-style, its a really nice throwback to 90s happy hardcore
Rick J Jordan from Scrooter (i know he left, but his kinda a Scooter Legend, would like to hear more about his Scooter productions)
these are just a few of 100s i hope to see in the future, i really like your show, and love to see all my old hero producers and acts interviewed, i hope you will keep bringing us these awesome videos :) Thank you very much for the time you spend on this :) (and sorry for the long message, you gave me your little finger and i go for the hand, sorry :) )
@@mortenhn1981 Thank you! And Martin Boer will happen (hopefully Bobby will join) later this year, we discussed this already ;-) Charly Lownoise & Mental Theo are on my wish list too! I have a wish-list with like 50-60 people still, but since COVID-19 screwed up all my plans (no more events = no foreign artists coming to visit The Netherlands for a while...) I can only focus on Dutch producers / artists now. I wrote a loooong story in the "community" tab some weeks ago, check it out hehe ;-) But, lots of ideas still, so hopefully I can do all of this in the next years haha
@@muzikxpress Wow, really amazed that you already talked to Martin Boer im really looking forward to that interview. Thank you so much for your dedication to all this, and thank you so much for the interviews its very awesome! :) I will take a look at your patreon so you hopefully will keep doing this for many years :)
@@mortenhn1981 Haha yeah! In 1995 I did my very first ever interview, which was for a local radio station. And.... that was with Martin! We haven't seen each other since, but we did stay in touch via Facebook. He's working on his brand new studio, so once that one is finished we will try to meet up for an interview. Hopefully about "Dreams" and about "Never Alone". I'm also working on some other names, so stay tuned and thanks for the support! :)
When you found out, that "Spring" is only a cover o.O
IDK but that time I considered RMB as electronic producer of RAVE music. Track "Spring" was almost on every RAVE CD. Interestingly, he he did not mention RAVE here even once.
Here it was (and still is) considered as hard trance.
😎👌👍💪
Me waiting 160bpm 👹
What was Farid's input? He never seems to get a mention.
That says enough I think, right? ;-)
He was in charge of music videos.
I think he was a friend of Rolf and had some connections to the rave scene. Also he had some ambitions in promo and marketing. Too sad that the friendship broke up in the later career of "RMB".
RMB project was 100% of Rolf Maier Bode work production in studio with some Farid ideas of composition, structure and melodies of tracks.
Thought it was Dr. Grande for a second.
Knew it had to be VL1 or a Prophecy for that scratchy resonant violin-like sound.
Roland Brant - The Kiss Of Medusa was released two years before with similar melody.
Yes, but a year before "The Kiss Of Medusa" by Roland Brant, Rolf's track "Manitou - Ever Means Never" already came out ;-)
@@muzikxpress Niiice. I never knew. I bought Medusa vynil as new release and thought it was original melody, until today.
That's why I like making this vlogs, so people (hopefully) learn a thing or 2 hehe ;-)
The story of 'Summersault' by Tastexperience ?!? Please
22:53 - "that is not my thing anymore..." As someone of the same age, same root music love (blade runner theme, JMJ, rockets) i can say "it has NEVER been our thing". the EDM thing has nothing in common with those years.
why the other guy from the duo Farid Gharadjedaghi wasn't mentioned at all...
I’m sure there was a good reason for it
@@muzikxpress ah i see..weird.. everything seemed like a one man show
@@HypetraxxPredator maybe one was the producer and the other one not so much? Who knows 😉
@@muzikxpress yeah maybe, i am more intrigued now lol
@@muzikxpress saw one older interview in german, so yeah you were right, Farid was doing calls and arrangements for videos and looking for ways to add meaning into them with the lyrics. He only is responsible for convincing rolf to add a second melody into Spring track, but haven’t got involved at all with production in any track. And yes they separated in not in good terms, unfortunately their friendship broke down with time
160 BPM u said, maybe try to step into hardstyle scene or raw...
didn't like Redemption that much, Reality on the other hand got me
Reality was my favorite too!!
Redemption was the better song tho
I wish I could tell him that buying 5 CDs a year is a lot for most people. That's such a disappointing reason to not release on CD. Crowd fund it! If even a small amount of people bought 5 CDs a year it would still be a major format. I'm shocked that he used such faulty logic there.
German Charts are really a crap! Let’s pronounce it, what it really is. :D
Haha are they THAT bad??
OK I understand the world loved "Spring". It a commerce track, engineered for commercial success.
But to hear "this is my favorite RMB track".... ouch. I really expected a little more sophisticated taste on this channel.
Oh please, are you for real??? Your comment, ouch…. 😂
I like a lot of tracks that some people consider to be cheesy / commercial. I like what I like and I really don’t care if my taste is not “sophisticated” enough for you or anyone else.
Gerade die "Mainstream" Titels waren aber die besten. Danke für redemption, spring und reality🎉
Rolf is a Mozart of the new era!
