Superman V had a script written. Warner Brothers cancelled it because they didn't want it competing for attention with their Lois and Clark TV show.

Superman is not old news if you did it the previous year ! A big contradiction there .

It's a shame this movie didn't really work out too well. On paper, the idea of remaking His Girl Friday in a TV news set, with that cast at that time, was a really good one.

Funnily enough, I feel similarly about Superman IV. There's a really good idea in there for a story about the limits of what someone with godlike powers should be willing or allowed to do in something resembling a real-world political setting, which could have been told with all the usual blockbuster action and comedy and romance and other bells and whistles in the mix. But in the end, the execution of the idea was cheap and lazy, so of course the movie was terrible. It makes me sad every time I foolishly rewatch it.
