Krystian Zimerman made his breakthrough in 1975 when he won First Prize at the International Fryderyk Chopin Competition in Warsaw. The Polish pianist’s interpretations of Chopin reveal infinite expressive subtleties and the underlying clarity of his story-telling through music. Recorded in Vienna in 1987, this recital of compositions by Chopin was first released in 1990.

I remember hearing my father play
this in a recital he gave in 1971
when I was 9 years old. I’ll never
forget thinking ‘My dad is amazing’
as I listened.❤️
Darius kincaid's son?
@@ssbuzeno No, sorry:)
@@TheToneRoom did you become a pianist yourself?
@@bludika No, I’m a guitarist😁
@@TheToneRoom hah i see
I don't think there is a "correct" way to play chopin...even so, listening to zimerman is always a great pleasure!
But there is an ''incorrect'' way to play Chopin.. If you know what I mean. Zimerman is too good though!!
ㄧ˙ㄧ˙ㄘㄞㄧㄞㄧ
To me his playing sounds as natural as breathing
Nonsense @@mousikopaigmonas23
Horrible! Disgusting! How dare you say such a thing?
Probably my favorite pianist.
You are everywhere in comments 😂😂😂
O meu também
You likely not his favorite either
Technical excellence and yet the warmth and emotion Chopin would have wanted.
Er spielt mit so vielen Ausdrück und die Pausen kommen so natürlich, daß es aussieht, daß er improvvisierend sei.
Es ist immer eine besondere Freude, him zu hören.
Danke euch allen.
When someone says: „show me how should pianist behave” I show him Kristian Zimmermann❤️
But does anyone ever ask you, and why would they? Ssing how they _play,_ of course, but *_behave??_* It sounds like an animal!
It is the 10th time I am seeing in a single week
Wonderful never heard someone play the scherzo 2 this good. It is a pleasure hearing zimerman play. Bravissimo
Thank you very much! So glad you enjoy it :)
That's probably why he won the chopin competition. no one can play this well. Perfect in all ways possible
Eu ouco 3 vezes por dia kk
Piękno muzyki Fryderyka Chopina to fenomen graniczący z cudem. Brawo Zimerman.
From all the Zimmerman recordings, this is my favourite.
His expressions (both facial and body) shows a level of excitement that definitely belongs to a scherzo. Most of his other video recordings of him show him playing in a conservative manner: no exaggerated motion. But this one, Zimmerman couldn't hide his excitement, and it shows in his body language. It's interesting to see a different side of Zimmerman.
Of course, the auditory aspects are amazing too. Grand and loud but not banging, utterly magical, exciting, clean phrasing... Amazing interpretation. Out of all his interpretations, this one is the one that captivate me the most. I wish I can hear him live just once in my lifetime...
This is my favorite Chopin piece. The drama and change in sections are all yet wholly joined....a strong, even, masculine, assertive minor key representation for sure.
This is the chuck norris of piano

Zimmerman isn't a legend. He is a living legend.
Saw him played this piece in recital weeks ago, with totally different interpretation to this one, but both are amazing.
I know it's been 4 years since your comment, but I'd love to know what differences you found between this interpretation and the one you heard! Greetings.
Perfect timing and articulation. No more words.
Großartig in jeder Hinsicht!
It sounds so soft every time!
Even in the chords, the top note of the main run, and the left hand
How does he do that!
Excellent performance
Excellent audio capture!!! (Specially for 1987!!!)
It really highlighted Zimerman's beautiful and expressive piano playing.
Cudowna muzyka genialnego Chopina, boskie wykonanie.
great depth to the notes, great coloring, it is the first time i hear it like that.
so cleanly played. its wonderful
Wonderful performance.
Mesmerizing .
Thank you very much K.Zimerman .Bravissimo.❤
And DG too to enable us sharing this part of Eternity.
Bravo Kristian 💐. Excellent 👍 . This is the correct performance of Chopin . sit correctly & facial expressions are professional . Such a beautiful & luxury place . Thanx Deutsche Grammophon . 🌹
Very wonderful ~ both the Scherzo and the pianist! Thank you so much! ❤
What a soul-touching performance!
Восторг!
Definitely one of the top 10 recordings of this explosive composition. Zimerman is a huge influence for me
Technique is amazing
Maravilloso!!!!
Just beautiful! 👍🌟💛
Zimmerman 의 스케르쵸 연주와 해석에 대한 나의 선입견이 뒤바뀌고 그의 연주의 "느낌"을 얻은 날이다
또한 나에게 커다란 힐링을 줬어요
Amazing!!!!
Beautiful
bravo!!
Notes on 9:48 make my heart melt everytime
His and Van Cliburn’s performances of this are my absolute favorite.
Stupendo👏👏👏
Chopin is actually unbelievable😱
Great
It’s doesn’t matter what’s on the page just as long as you tell the story of what you believe the music is telling you and the people listening
1966 Martha Argerich provides an incredible range of nuances without even using the "una corda" pedal (I think) like Zimerman does. She also got more rhythmical nerve and shuts sharply the sound on the staccato notes before the silence values. Zimerman is yet splendid as always.
I believe this piece sounds much better without the sharp staccato that doesn’t even allow you to enjoy the greatness of the part
3:36 idk but this part has always reminded me of jazz or something similar, chopin was truly an innovator
Holy cow!!!
If you listen closely you can hear him hum the melody at times!
Maurizio Pollini, Glenn Gould did the same
7:51 what a sad moment it is ㅜㅠ
Mistrz!
great
Call me crazy but the mannerisms shown @2:38 I’ve seen in Seong Jin Ho and Yundi Li at some point. Not sure if it’s just a coincidence. Particularly since Seong Jin Ho mentioned Zimmerman was one of his heroes😊.
3:00 zimmerman controls the piano with the left pedal and is using pressure on it with control as well as the left :0
Excellent performance. One should also listen to audio recording of Arturo Benedetti Michelangeli on Scherzo 2.
👏👏👏
Very nice interpretation! Also, try to listen this Scherzo interpreted by Alexei Sultanov! Thank you!
I nearly thought it was Chopin himself who was playing the piece! Zimerman and Chopin are much alike in many aspects.
How on earth would you know that?
Que sala maravilhosa é essa?
0:30 is when piece starts if you wanna skip
It’s a Piece
oh sorry my bad let me fix ot
Just incredible.
Whats going on at around 4:50 (and other similar passages like 6:30)? The right hand is written, in alternate bars, crotchet quaver quaver triplet but he plays crotchet then 2 sets of triplets in these bars... is this how Chopin meant it to be?
😍😍😍🤩🤩
I keep thinking he even looks like Chopin 😂😂😂
Bro yeaa if u compare zimmerman to other pianists in performing chopin u can hardly find decent enemy to match him plus he looks like chopin i even thought at once that he was reincarnation guy of chopin himself XDD if u look at last age photos of chopin the similarity of zimmermans look and chopins look is insane
🌟🙏🏼🌟
I've heard about this since long long ago.

7:10 's sound like Etude Op.10 No.12
Yeah that's what I thought
Of course this is absolutely wonderful. But, I think my favourite interpretations of the Scherzi are a bit madder, more like a mental breakdown expressed through the keys than an elegant or romantic song...
Advertisements always ruin this wonderful performance
It's Chopin, or Zimmerman?
And so untypical an emding....the last rushing and loud last major key measures ending this B flat minor piece.
He looks like the german "Seawolf" Harmstorff 😂
Deutsche Gramophone….do you *_REALLY_* need the extra cash, so that a _commercial_ interrupts a genius playing an exquisite piece of music??? Shame on whomever made this decision! And thumbs down, because you managed to ruin a Kristian Zimerman performance!
😮 Rubinstein plays it better
Nah, Rubinstein feels too agitated and too sloppy. You can hear noticeable mistakes in the climax. (In my opinion)
absolutely not, not only does his recording quality suck, his playing is way worse
bad..
Outstanding !
Show me your performance
