This has to be the most direct confession I've seen while still not having them in a relationship LMFAO! Only this show can get away with this haha. See my full uncut live reaction to the episode over on Patreon www.patreon.com/BrandonReviews
I still can't wrap my head around this fact lol. You are right, only this anime can pull this off. I have a feeling a direct confession from Ichikawa is coming real soon. Last episode where Ichikawa told Anna Yamada she looked really pretty when viewing the picture he took of her gave her a hint of this scenario.
You know what I like, how Yamada's friend circle just naturally include Ichikawa and interact with him so normally, Serina gladly trying to help him out with his hair, Ichikawa being able to tease Moeko by bragging about his grades, it's sweet to see the indirect developments of his and Yamada's feelings for each other.
And Adachi, being a hater initially, also accepted that Ichikawa was one of the homies amongst the girls. The fact that he wasn’t hating on Ichikawa having the girls surrounding him during the scene where the teacher asking him to be a representative and getting his hair styled by Serina.
"My hands are full, and I can't hold anything else" she says as she's holding the Akita dog Ichikawa gave her. It might be simple, but that might be the most romantic anime moment I've ever seen.
Ichikawa's speech was so impactful, it opened the eyes of that one teacher who's eyes are normally closed. Pretty boy at the end gave our two lovebirds a moment and was confused on why they went separate directions.
I did find the homeroom teacher crying at the graduation endearing though, but I also thought it was sweet how much faith he had in Ichikawa and how he relied on him.
Absolute God tier episode. You're right that the show is more than just the confession. The moments they share before they "get together" are just as important as what comes after should they get to that point. The show really is about growing up and the fear and uncertainty that comes from it. It's why it ABSOLUTELY had to be set in middle school. It's when they're no longer children but not quite adults. So them growing as people and not just as lovers is why the Dangers works so well. Ah man, i cant get over Kyo's speech and his words of affirmation and acceptance of his own self love. And the fact that it's only after he loves himself that he realizes Anna loves him. *chef's kiss*
About Haruya's button thing: It's a well-known plot device in japanese anime, movies and dorama, and apparently based on a real life custom (which I haven't seen at the japanese schools I taught at). On graduation day, boys graduating give their second button from the top (the one closest to the heart) to the kouhai girls they love or who have confessed to them or when they accept the girls' confession in return. It's apparently an old-fashioned custom and Moeko even mentions that in the manga while observing the whole scene.
They have come so far…helping and bringing the best the other has to offer. Culminating on Ichikawa learning about self love and how the one person that trusts him the most is himself(not gonna lie that scene got me,I was holding back tears) Also the absolute trust these two have in each other is amazing to see. She instantly denies that lie because she knows damn well that he wouldn’t do that. These two are the perfect recipe for a long lasting healthy relationship and their development got me invested at an emotional level
Finally, we come to the culmination of Ichikawa's character growth. He has finally learned to love himself again. And with that, he has also finally accepted that Yamada likes him. I've been waiting for this episode for a long time, and the anime did not disappoint
This is the _actual_ moment that Ichikawa finally accepts that Yamada likes him _the way he likes her,_ the way his feeling for Yamada goes from a crush to something more serious all the way back in episode 3, when he thinks to himself "I like Yamada" under the bed, after seeing how seriously Yamada takes missing her photo shoot. Remember back to when Ichikawa makes the distinction between how he believes he feels about Yamada and how he believes Yamada may feel about him, in response to onee-chan portraying the feeling they have as ephemeral crushes. He can't give a reason for why he believes as he does, though. Ichikawa is only able to take a step forward the next morning because onee-chan lowers the bar for him. The subtext there is "If Yamada's possible feeling for me is only a crush that may go away tomorrow, as onee-chan portrays, then I am okay with accepting that lesser possibility. I'm okay with being let down from here." He figures that what he wants is to date Yamada, and the lesser possibility is enough for him to get what he wants. Now willing to entertain that lesser possibility, when Yamada continues her hint-dropping rampage as usual on Valentine's Day, Ichikawa accepts that Yamada has romantic feeling for him, but only as an ephemeral crush (remember the distinction Ichikawa makes to onee-chan), not the serious "like" he feels for her, so the karte remains "Yamada wa boku o" ("Yamada ---- me") here. At the work visit, when he imagines Yamada as an ordinary schoolgirl he doesn't admire, he figures out why he believes Yamada's feeling for him is just an ephemeral crush and his feeling for Yamada is serious. Suddenly, his previous wish to date Yamada on a crush doesn't feel enough anymore. He wants more than that and it hurts because he can't have what he wants as he is. Knowing what he has to be now before he can believe Yamada likes him the way he likes her, he brings his inner self and gives the farewell address his all. In the nurse's office, when Yamada breaks down in tears over him once again as he has seen her done many times before, he makes the connection to how he feels in episode 3 this time, where he has failed all those previous times when he doesn't believe in himself. He is finally able to accept that Yamada _dead serious_ likes him the way he likes her. The karte reads "Yamada likes me." Game over, man. Game over.
Bro, you really understood this, this anime is fucking good, it really drives airline inside me, i always smile by watching dangers in my heart, this is my favourite rom com
I totally enjoyed this episode. Ichikawa's speech to me like many represents his "growing out of his shell" moment. Ichikawa also mentions in the same episode how he never would of imagined this happening 6 months ago referring to getting a new haircut and getting the attention of Yamada and her friends as well as doing the graduation speech also represents his character growth and just how much he has grown from his depressing and loner version of himself. The final scene where Yamada tells the blonde hair guy she likes someone else and her hands are completely full and can't hold on to anything else is the clearest sign to Ichikawa that she likes him, and Ichikawa now knows she wasn't just being nice to him. I can't wait anymore to see what happens next. Let's go!!!
So if you’re wondering why Yamada kept focusing on Kyo’s second button (putting the dog keychain lower down) it’s because yeah it means something romantic (or used to it’s pretty old fashioned)
Yes, a guy giving a girl the second button off his uniform during a confession, as a token of his love, is a thing in Japan, at least in manga and anime it is. It's always the second button as that's the one over his heart.
5:14 Not many people talk about this or maybe don't even realize it but their age (13-14 years old) is actually an important aspect as to why this story is good, they are young, immature and childish but they are slowly growing and experiencing so many new things and changes together. It's beautifully portrayed and it wouldn't work nearly as good if they were any younger or older.
This was a greatly anticipated episode for manga readers with Ichikawa's development, and the anime adaptation delivered well as expected. We see a lot of romance series with the loner boy x popular girl trope - Ichikawa stands out more among that common trope as a male lead with insecurities done well with progressive personal development along the way with the romance.
I've NEVER seen such a non-confession confession that wasn't but actually is between a couple that's dating for 10 episodes but doesn't acknowledge it. ... God i LOVE those two. 🤣
That "confession" from Anna to Kyotarou in the Nursery was sooo beautiful 😳😭 The Dangers in My Heart is now my favourite Romance show for the many years to come 🤗
My boy has grown so much! I believe he is kore mature than me in my 14 y.o. For real, watching him learn to love and believe himself is such an enjoyment. I really proud of him, it's like the feeling of a father watching his son growth even tho I'm only in my twenties and had no son rn.
With Nanjou (senpai) helping to give Ichikawa an opening after his rejection (says to Ichikawa he left them alone in room together after he left), makes me wonder if he talked to Yamada in the room with Ichikawa in mind for his benefit too, likely knowing his confession would be rejected and give him an opening because he could see the connection Ichikawa and Yamada have already, but had to at least confess before he graduates to move on, maybe getting courage from Ichikawa's speech to do so. Like to him, if Yamada somehow accepted his confession (obviously wouldn't happen), he would take that "W" with Ichikawa hearing it too - but likely knowing he would be rejected, he's fine with giving Ichikawa an opening, even playing the bad guy with the lie and had some type of respect for him. Maybe that gives him too much credit, but he seemed like he had some underlying respect for Ichikawa.
This anime just shows that’s it’s possible to do slow romance if it’s done right. What happens in too many of them is that it feels like the characters take one step forward to their relationship but then 10 steps back, which gets annoying after a while. This anime just slowly keeps going forward, one little baby step at a time and I think that’s why it works so well.
Even though this show is doesn't quite have the reputation it deserves in the west, it's got the very supporters needed in Japan to make sure we see it through to some kind of conclusion. The people funding the anime know it's a hit. They know it's good. That's why we got a second season confirmed for only two cours after the first season. That's why it looks like the animation budget has only increased over the first season. (I don't think it's just my imagination that there is more sakuga this season than the last.) As long as it keeps the ratings or at least keeps the merch sales up, we'll be okay. I think the production committee knew they had a hit on their hands even before the first season started, and that's why they gave it high production values. I wish the people behind Villainess Level 99 had done the same.
Ok, so with the button thing explained by other comments, that was 100% confession from her. She new he was listening, she's aloof but not ignorant. We just didn't get his response yet. It could have happened during that small window of alone and we will see it next episode, or it will just happen a bit later. With how far Ichikawa have come, he has no chance but to double down. Plus we have Moeko's wild predictions to consider. Yamada is WAY more shaken when she leaves the room. Like, it can still be just the embarrassment from "oh god i confessed", but a little what if? When will Moeko's approach of "go for the stars, will at least reach the moon" actually ring true? Whichever way it goes, Ichikawa just has to roll with it. Stopping now would just go against odds. And with how he was doing his hairdresser conversation flowcharts, I'm sure Ichikawa knows that too. Romance manga protag in him is winning over the silent chuuni.
This show... This season! OMG. I know they're... 14, but wow wow wow! I know the confession-ish rejection of "playa"-senpai is so burnt but holy smokes!Ichikawa's speech! Our boy's becoming a MAN! The character growth for both Yamada and Ichikawa this whole season is sublime! Gives me My Love Story!! vibes when it took best bud Sunakawa to force Yamato to repeatedly confess she likes Takeo for Takeo to finally believe it! I need more!
Watching this is watching a pair of awkward teenagers maturing like fine wines. Also, you notice that Ichikawa and Yamada literally had the same eye designs at the end of the episode. As for the button thing, it's apparently a form of confession in Japan. Edit: Fun fact but Ichikawa is voiced by the same guy that voices Kazuya from R-a-G.
yea the whole senpai last ditch shot seems to be a direction change... never happened in the manga but somehow manage to keep it semi accurate to the afterward convo he had with that girl, except the anime made it where he was trying to do a last ditch move before giving his farewells 🤔odd

Nah they definitely didn't 🤣 it's painfully obvious that the reason Yamada is so beet red is purely because she just clocked that she admitted she likes Ichikawa (though not directly) damn near right in front of him
I watched the speech few times because I felt like the author tried to encaplsilate the show's message. Good art is often trying to say something, every part of it being in purpose to that message and exploration of it and perhaps that speech could be onthe back of every manga volume so you can just read it before and after reading that volume
Wifh the school speech thing with Ichikawa'a sis, it wouldnt have been good etiquette for ichikawa to use his phone for the speech, at least thats what im guessing anyway
Season 3 for a confession ? I think you're losing hope. There's so many good things happening in each episode, I feel like it could drop at any moment.
Is season 3 even possible. I haven't read the manga yet, but I hope there is enough source material for one,😅 although two seasons should be enough for peak romance like this one.
There is enough for another season in a year or so. Season one adapted up to 57 I think there are currently 140 chapters. So once this season is done they won't start working or confirming another season till next year than probably another year to work. If we get season 3 I suspect it'll be 2026
I think people shoot far so it can surpass expectation, like it's a challenge. lol Ya know when you could watch romance series and they have a lead in like they may kiss and but it seems like a maybe fake out, and you go "well they aren't gonna actually kiss" but then that rare time they actually do, you can be happy it happens rather set the expectation and get disappointed if it doesn't happen. It's a psychological thing. lol

It's a baffling confession that isn't a confession lmao

In relation to Ichikawa voice actor and his speech in this episode, I find hilarious to know it is the same as Kazuya from Rent a Girlfriend.
Yeah this episode was so incredible in their development department. Maybe we just need a little bit more to finally see them together.
This is a romance done right with real development inbetween so it feels good. Its not being hypocrite xD

@@AHBrandonReviews That's awesome. I do hope the author doesn't plan to drag this confession out to a new season if one is in the works.
It's a psychological thing. lol
That one line "my hands are full" warmed my whole F'n heart for the rest of 2024 and im single asf....🥹❤
I understand how you feel soo much, my friend.
