I'm 33, and I just started learning about the inch. My schools never taught me and my classmates about the inch measurements, only metrics and nothing else.
I knew a bit of the other measurements besides metrics, such as the Imperial measurements through my old Oxford dictionaries and my New Book of Knowledge encyclopedia set.

Jesus....I feel really dumb now. Like in the comments below me, I was always REALLY embarrassed to ask anyone for help using a ruler because it made me feel very stupid and ashamed that I never learned correctly when I was younger. So, this video has been a huge help!

I feel ya man:/ back in primary school when I didn't have an ounce of knowledge in mathematics,I had to ask the teacher to explain it infront of my classmates and it was so embarrassing and I felt ashamed of myself, eventually I got a really good grasp of maths and it's one of my best subjects now but the lesson I learned was that it doesn't matter what others think so long as you gain the required knowledge at the end.

I learned to read in cm [since Im from Mexico] so they never taught us how to read the inches part of our rulers lol. I have been using 1/4 when measuring [some materials are measured in inches, like wood, since we live on the border with the USA], but always had problems understanding the smaller notches on the rulers and tapes [why some have less and others have more, for example]. This video has helped me a lot to understand it in my 45 years of life. Thank you!

I started primary school in England, UK in the late 70's aged I guess 4 or 5 years old yet we weren't classed as Europe but I learnt in metric. Can remember being out in the playground with the red metre stick on a big wheel that made a click sound at every metre. I didn't learn feet and inches. So at high school everyone else seemed to already know feet and inches, but I didn't. I knew how to find 1ft 1ins 2ins 2ins and so on and halves of the inches. Like 6ft 1 1/2 ins, but no idea how to write the half as a number. And if it was one black line over the half black line or more that sends me into panic as I have no idea what that measurement would then be written in numbers. I know it would be 6ft 1ins and ?? 🤷‍♀️
I also have no idea about weights either if not in stones. So embarrassing. Just glad I can tell the time on a non digital clock. Many young people thesedays struggle with that.

I appreciate this! Starting a new job where I’ll need to use a ruler to measure things precise, 30 & didn’t have to use a ruler at all really.

I never knew I would actually need to know fraction things before college (imma be an engineer) until I started a calendar project, I need to make squares for where all the days will be places (it’s one of those things that you can change the month and amount of days without a different board, but I’m not buying one, so I can design each date and month) but I need to cut a normal sized paper, into a smaller version of the big thing, so I can make the squares(31 total spaces) without having any extra eraser lines, I’m going from inches to centemeters, the length was 26 1/2 inches, so I did 26 1/2 centimeters on the model, but the width was 16 inches, but then it went 6 dashes further, so I needed to know what that would be called, so I could just look up what it would be in centimeters
