We bought a CA. king mattress from Ken a year ago. Got an 8" pocket coil, 3" tallalay medium base and 2" tallaly medium soft topper with 13" zippered cover. You want the zipper to be at the top if you need to open the mattress up for any reason. The zipper and cover are very heavy duty, the zipper is not going to fail or get in the way. Its on the side. Best mattress we have ever bought. Wish I had known about this years ago. Thanks to Ken and you tube.

Please know that I weigh 185 and my wife weighs 120 so it is not because we are overweight. I am now about to purchase a new mattress after just 5 years because I would like to be next to my wife without climbing. I would not recommend a Serta mattress to anyone. When your in the stores trying out a new Serta mattress they seem great when they are new. Unfortunately, that is not the case for very long after you start using it. Am I angry about it? No, more disappointed in what I thought was a good name mattress.

I rotated the mattress, so now I have one in opposing corners where I slept. But they're just "aesthetic body impressions," according to all the mattress stores, so I know better than to pursue a warranty claim. I already have a latex topper from my last two lumpy mattresses. I also added a bunkie board between the mattress and foundation for extra support. It's like a whole new bed.
I have a serta bellagio. Loved it year one but now suffering from dips ever since. Can't get bed store to honor warranty 😤😡. They tried to give me a low quality $100 looking bed.
Serta Bellagio is the biggest piece of crap on the market. They says it's the one the hotel uses. They dont and places say it's a $2,000 mattress yet it sells for $499.00 at most places.
The wife and I have been on a multi-year spree of mattress headaches. Saw this video awhile ago, but today I'm diving in! We knew our new sealy mattress was nothing high end, but the dip that has developed in the pillow top is totally outrageous. The way the companies paint the foams blue to look like "gel" smells a lot like the tricks China is using with painting their vegetation and livestock 😂
I happen to have this specific mattress from Mancini Sleep World with 25 year warranty! its been a bad mattress for the better part of 6 years ownership. finally, we contacted mancini and they got a guy to test the sag. with 1.5" sag in the middle or more, they will give you a warranty replacement. I am at the point where I dont know what is a good mattress from Serta / Mancini's to replace my current one.
I would go with the firmest one possible and then put a softer latex topper over it. The firmer they are the longer they will last. Anything soft or pillow top will just do the same thing all over again
They should replace it under warranty but if not then yes, this works for all types of spring beds. If it's all foam it will not work because all the layers are glued together.
It doesn’t fix the mattress from sagging because the foam wears down so fast. Best to buy a extra firm mattress with no pillow top and put a topper on, the topper can be more easily replaced when it wears out vs the entire mattress. I would never buy a serta or a pillow top again. But I know someone with a firm pillow top beautyrest and their mattress is comfy 4-5 years later, just takes eons to break in to not be too hard either.
Hey Im in Australia. Do you sell to us? I bought a matress that after 5 weeks of sleeping on it, had a hard part ACROSS WAYS in the middle across the bed, leaving both top end and bottom end softer/dipping, making it unusable. After watching your video, could it be the foam, not the springs that is the issue??? I would like to know how i can fix it up if possible pls?
Thanks so much for the video. I was able to pull the two threads and voila... it opened. I pulled off that stupid layer in the pillow top and I started to cry. Ive been dealing with this sh**** mattress for 2 years because I paid for it and it was new. I kept the top part (quilted part) for now. Do you think I should trash that part as well? I am trying it out to see how it feels... by the looks of the video it doesn't seem like it will benefit me any.
We have this same mattress and been hating how soft and unsupportive it is. Any good results from your removal of the foam? I am looking to do the same when my wife approves haha
@@KenHightower what will prevent the layers from bunching up in the middle again. I am so happy that I came across this video because I was getting ready to toss a $3300
This vid is a few years old. But I'll ask my question and hope for a response. I want to know if it is truly as simple as seen in the videos. Or if I try this on my own, will I possibly encounter problems not shown in these videos? For me it would be on a new twin xl mattress I hate, but the vendor won't do any refund.
I have a Stearns and Fosters Lux estate mattress that was purchased for me 2 years ago and the padding has shift to one side over time now its bunch together. I can't file a claim because I don't know where it was purchased. My family members who came together after I had a stroke to purchase this mattress has since passed. This is a $3300 mattress.
Purchased 3 dang on queen mattresses! I wish I had seen this before hand. All 3 are hybrid, but the good news they are all firm. I do have go 1.5 to 2 inch memory foam toppers on them, but I will replace those with a 2 inch latex topper - will this help my bed last longer and my family have better sleep? I am on the market for one more bed for my 80 year old mom, and was going to get the same mattress that I have in my home now, but will not. I will purchase a king size spring mattress only and a good latex pillow topper.
I like the ideea, but Latex is way to Firmer and Harder then Memory foam so will give your back a lot of pain. I had Dunlop 3 inch Latex on top and 15cm reflex foam on bottom, and the mattress was really hard to sleep on. Latex will last long long enough, but at a cost. What's the best way to have long lasting topper with it? I like memory foam feel as it produce 0 back pain for me. But i need a long lasting one. What you advice?
Dunlop is the most strong resistant one. Dunlop is Firmer - Talalay is softer. I found that sleeping on 3 inch Dunlop Latex, gives me pain in the lower back each morning. Replaced the £800 Latex with £300 Memory Foam, and everything was perfect.
I recently moved a similar mattress and now have a big lump on one side of the mattress. I believe the memory foam is now bunched up causing the lump. Is there any other way to remove the lump without taking apart the mattress?
It happened because a lot of companies take the cheap, quick way in manufacturing by only gluing down the outside edge of the foam which leaves the center of the mattress open to shifting around. And if they do glue the center, it’s usually with a glue with a slow setup time. They do this on an assembly line (big manufacturers). So, they glue it, then stand it up on a rail system to go down the line to be finished later. It standing at a slight angle to keep it from falling. Now it’s slightly bowed, so center of mattress won’t really stay in place while glue sets up. Prop a mattress up on your wall at a slight angle and you’ll see the deflection I mean. Local manufacturers generally do a better job of construction by spending a little more time on a product, rather than mass production on assembly lines from large companies
The protein in rubber can cause an allergic reaction in some people. The thin, stretchy latex rubber in gloves, condoms and balloons is high in this protein. It causes more allergic reactions than products made of hard rubber (like tires). Also, because some latex gloves are coated with cornstarch powder, the latex protein particles stick to the cornstarch and fly into the air when the gloves are taken off. In places where gloves are being put on and removed frequently, the air may contain many latex particles. These items are all produced using the "cold-dipped" method. Why Latex Mattresses Don't Produce Symptoms Non-skin contact products, such as latex foam mattresses and pillows, that may contain some natural rubber latex, undergo a five-stage washing process which removes reaction-causing proteins while enhancing the over quality of the product. The openness of latex foam cells, allows for thorough washing. In addition, latex mattresses, toppers and pillows are manufactured by super heating the mold which vulcanizes the latex inside. These proteins cannot survive the high heat. Complaints for allergic reactions to natural rubber latex are monitored by the FDA. To our knowledge, there has never been a single complaint over our more than 28 years of experience stemming from the natural rubber found in our mattresses and pillows. Our products have been tested by outside facilities and are shown to be inherently hypoallergenic for sufferers of mold, mildew or bacterial allergies. In addition, our latex mattress and pillows are resistant to dust mites and are naturally resistant to mold and mildew which are contributors to asthma and pulmonary function allergies. The bottom line is that a latex mattress does not cause allergies
We have a 2-3 month old Beautyrest that has had body impressions from about 3 weeks old. My hip and back are killing me and now my neck and shoulders are starting to ache too. It's it possible to just buy a 3" latex topper to go right on top of the existing mattress? I do have a 10 year warrantee that would be void if I cut the damn thing open.
Ken Hightower the warranty only kicks in when the dip is at 1.5" and it is only at 1.3" right now. So we have to wait until the dip gets bigger. And in the meantime our backs get more sore.
@@prairiejolene How did your story go? I'm in this position right now, $2k beautyrest, 3 months old, already starting to dip and kill my lower back. It did great for about a month I loved it. People resorting to building their own mattresses, its sad state of affairs.
It's been my experience that softer mattress work best for a side sleeper. Our Ultimate Hybrid uses a top quality pocket coil with your choice of soft, medium or firm latex on top. www.mattresses.net/ulhypoco.html
Extra firm flat mattress with a 3” topper, then replace the topper when it wears out. Cheaper mattress, some have them over 10 years this way and more adjustment when you can pick different types of toppers to suit. But for my hips, need a bit thicker but still higher density for support in the topper. Cheaper to replace a topper than a bed and I’m disabled so this seems a lot of work.
Put a 3" latex mattress topper on it. They are usually available in soft, medium, and firm. I bought an excellent one on Amazon 3 years ago for $350 in medium. It's fantastic.
@Infinite Possibilities Beds that cost $450 are absolutely worthless lmao but ok 👍 As a matter of fact beds should not even be able to be sold for that price.

I feel higher on the right side of my bed and could easily roll over the left side bks of the inclination.😣 Happy to have found this video it will save me another 650$
my woman has her hands swollen huuge from latex gloves at this very moment ..now you know im gonna ask.. lol..should i try another route or is that a silly question?
Buy a double sided mattress, flip it, rotate it frequently. You will get 10X the life out of the mattress. If someone is trying to sell you a mattress they claim you don’t have to flip, go find one that does. I assure you, there’s a company out there that has the exact mattress your looking at that’s double sided, just a different name. Sleeping in the same spot 8 hours at a time, night after night, Will prematurely wear out the inner contents of your bed. Time and pressure will do that, no getting around it. Find a 10,000 year old hard, jagged rock, throw it into a river. Come back in a few years and see if the running water has begun smoothing it out. Time and pressure will do it. If you can’t flip and rotate a mattress, don’t buy it.
And if your one sided no-flip pillowtop mattress is sagging, buy a Walmart camping foam pad, or fold up a blanket. Determine where the sag is, and place the pad or blanket under the mattress at that place. You'll notice an immediate change in the mattress comfort level. If you put it too thick, the mattress will sort of arch upward. Just decrease the thickness of the folded pad and try it again. You can restore your mattress comfort for several years longer, while you save up for Ken Hightower's system.
Ya know what sucks a$$ is that when you go to a mattress store and test many of them and find your best fit, it NEVER lasts!!!!! I thought I spent a LOT on the last one. 900 bucks!!!!! But 3K???? And THIS!!! I feel better about my 900 dollar one now at least. Same results for much less money!!!!!!!!!

@@Deeone282 That’s still doesn’t answer the question. The time taken to unpick has nothing in relation to just showing the layers. I was expecting an actual reply from the person posting, who’d probably give a reason.
At end of the day though what is blowing my mind is that if you're in the business of taking mattresses apart and putting them back together with some newer materials, that means that essentially your customers are getting used mattresses... and let me guess is that you will then sell that mattress for several hundred to $1,000 that you essentially got as trash, ruined the structural integrity, put some latex on it and you might have paid maybe 50 bucks in both the man hours and the materials? Which means that you bad mouth the big manufacturers but at least they have integrity. You on the other hand, are like those used car shysters that will roll back the mileage and sell it... shady
Mr. Queen with all due respect you really either don't know crap about mattresses or you make a living selling those expensive pieces of crap. I did exactly what Ken advised on this video and I bought a 3" topper from him and it was the best thing I ever did. I salvaged a pretty expensive purchase by simply applying my topper on top. I've had endless perfect nights of sleep ever since. Don't knock it until you try it. Ray from San Diego
What in the world are you talking about? He's not topping these off and reselling them. For one thing, it's illegal to resell a mattress. He is showing people how to salvage their own mattresses into something usable.. Try watching again, maybe turn up the sound this time.
Jill Beaudoin it is NOT illegal to sell used mattresses. In some states it may be but I worked in the industry for 15+ years and most states just require it to be tagged with a yellow tag that is given by the state (when the license is bought) that says they are authorized to sell used materials and the bed was sprayed with a cleaner. Reconditioned mattresses is a very real and big industry.
Believe or not Bmore, you will be surprised how fast they are making these mattresses, coil on machine, some top comfort layers glued, then fit them in the mattress cover and that's it, they took you £1k for probably 20 min of building. No such structure integrity there, mattresses do stay in place due to them spings fitted togethere and cover that keeps everything in place. THE END

Will this work for a Stern's and Foster? Horrible hump in the middle of the bed and it's soooo uncomfortable!! It's not an old mattress either!
They should replace it under warranty but if not then yes, this works for all types of spring beds. If it's all foam it will not work because all the layers are glued together.
Would you recommend buying a simple spring mattress then adding your pillow top to it? Seems like it'd be cheaper and last longer
As long as it has edge encasement, in my experience.
Pam Blair was the way is a rrsur
Sure. I don't see why not, since the springs last.
The quilted top is what causes a major part of the body impressions and softening so it's the first thing that needs to go.
We have this same mattress and been hating how soft and unsupportive it is. Any good results from your removal of the foam? I am looking to do the same when my wife approves haha
Tsung Hung Shen you can insert a firmer foam pad in place of the quilted top
Can you just put the latex on top of the gel memory foam instead of trying to rip it off and zip the whole thing into a new cover?
Which mattress Brand is the best IKEA OR WAYTON? I'M26 and I'm looking for a Queen Size bed mattress.
Can you tell me what kind of glue is used to glue the layers down. Myself and nephew will try to repair this weekend.
We don’t glue the layers down at all. If you do need to do that just search for Spray Foam Adhesive
Can I save all the time and just flip the mattress and order a cover pad? What do you think?
That's just a temporary fix, the dips will eventually work through
How do you rewrap your layers if they are all glued together with a sock looking cover?
Shopping for gel foam toppers, all sellers describe comfort level as “plush”. I want ‘firm.’ How do I locate one?
Check out Viscosoft
Purchased 3 dang on queen mattresses! I wish I had seen this before hand. All 3 are hybrid, but the good news they are all firm. I do have go 1.5 to 2 inch memory foam toppers on them, but I will replace those with a 2 inch latex topper - will this help my bed last longer and my family have better sleep? I am on the market for one more bed for my 80 year old mom, and was going to get the same mattress that I have in my home now, but will not. I will purchase a king size spring mattress only and a good latex pillow topper.
Yes, latex will increase the durability and comfort of any mattress
How much is the latex padding?
I like the ideea, but Latex is way to Firmer and Harder then Memory foam so will give your back a lot of pain.
I had Dunlop 3 inch Latex on top and 15cm reflex foam on bottom, and the mattress was really hard to sleep on.
Latex will last long long enough, but at a cost.
What's the best way to have long lasting topper with it?
I like memory foam feel as it produce 0 back pain for me. But i need a long lasting one.
What you advice?
Buy a memory foam mattress topper.
What if a couple coils look mashed on the edge? Can you pull them up and continue with latex topper?
Brilliant! Thank you. Very informative. No mystery anymore!!!
Do you recommend Dunlop or Talalay latex for the topper?
Talalay is more breathable and durable from what I read.
That will be hard to do without opening it up from the side.
Same thing happened to me. Brand new mattress with huge lump on one side, 1 m sq! Its good to finally understand why! THANKYOU!
Do you have information on the zippered mattress cover that fits this type of matress?
You can see it here - www.mattresses.net/remaco1.html
What if you are allergic to Latex? What are alternatives?
Latex mattresses are heat processed which kills the protein that causes the allergic reaction. These are perfectly safe.
@@KenHightower I wouldn't chance it because my allergies are so severe. Do you sell kapok?
@@KenHightower They still smell, don't they?
with latex allergies so prevalent, why recommend latex foam?
The protein in rubber can cause an allergic reaction in some people. The thin, stretchy latex rubber in gloves, condoms and balloons is high in this protein. It causes more allergic reactions than products made of hard rubber (like tires). Also, because some latex gloves are coated with cornstarch powder, the latex protein particles stick to the cornstarch and fly into the air when the gloves are taken off. In places where gloves are being put on and removed frequently, the air may contain many latex particles. These items are all produced using the "cold-dipped" method.
Why Latex Mattresses Don't Produce Symptoms
Non-skin contact products, such as latex foam mattresses and pillows, that may contain some natural rubber latex, undergo a five-stage washing process which removes reaction-causing proteins while enhancing the over quality of the product.
I might need to do this on mine after a few yrs i see the sagging where i lay the most already.
A topper is not going to fix the dips. Make them replace it under warranty but get something firmer and then add the latex on top of a new mattress
@@ImDaBadGuy we couldn't take the sore backs anymore so we gave it away and bought a bed in a box. We love it.
So what type of mattress do you recommend for a side sleeper?
@@whitneyquinn8330 A quality latex topper can easily last 25 or more years.
I need to do this exact thing to my pos serta.

My back is now killing these scammers are getting away with this selling. Fake stuff
Serta isn't fake
But it's a value bed go with intell bed or sterns
How can I fix my serta mattress over ,I live in Atlanta, do you reccomend someone here, mines is hard as a rock,an like to soften it
Put a 3" latex mattress topper on it.
@@thanosbustedinyourmum These people are buying $3000+ mattresses, and having problems within 1-2 years, and here YOU are mocking them for paying $350 for a latex mattress topper? A cheap mattress with a innerspring and latex topper feels great, and lasts for years.
So do you recommend a medium 3" layer?
Looks to me like the "pillow top" was the main problem. I'll make sure I avoid that with my next mattress purchase.
The problem of this mattress is,
pocket spring
memory foam
quilting layer
foam layer
this mattres has no back supprot and it is not comfort for 45 years old user or for someone which 90kgs weight. It will bounces....
this is not about the mattress but it is miss aplication.
they are made to last a couple years & then you have to go buy another ridiculously overpriced mattress. & yet the springs last virtually forever. never again.
You got it, go with a spring with latex and you will finally get your moneys worth. Our Ultimate Hybrid is the solution www.mattresses.net/ulhypoco.html
I got my mattress like 4-5 years ago from a discount reseller. I was curious to how much comfort I could get if I rotate my mattress and darn!!! I feel higher on the right side of my bed and could easily roll over the left side bks of the inclination.😣 Happy to have found this video it will save me another 650$
That looks SUPER uncomfortable!! I'd be really pissed off for paying that much!
my woman has her hands swollen huuge from latex gloves at this very moment ..now you know im gonna ask.. lol..should i try another route or is that a silly question?
See the comment by Anne-Marie A below. Ken gives a detailed explanation.
I liked your video very much.
Wish I could give you 10 thumbs up!!!
My queen bed from bobs has a zipper on the bottom and hate those beads
From bobs lol
is it possible to do this to a eurotop mattress?
Yes, the same procedure will work with a Eurotop.
Yes, Eurotop is nothing more than a sewing feature that enhances the visual look.
What’s wrong with your website?

Why spend so much time carefully unpicking the layers, when you then cut them up anyway? It drew the duration of the video out so much longer than necessary.
So the viewers can see the different layers.
@@Deeone282 That’s still doesn’t answer the question. The time taken to unpick has nothing in relation to just showing the layers. I was expecting an actual reply from the person posting, who’d probably give a reason.

The good news is many of you have attempted with great success and saved a lot of money along the way.
You've never assembled a piece of furniture? It's easier than doing that. lol
@@azprocprfirstaidllc3106 Was it easy to get used to sleeping on latex?
THE END
