i hope you decided to keep Good Night, Mr. Tom. It was a 5-star book for me. I also really enjoyed Love Ruby Lavender - so many funny parts. Read that one soon. I've probably told you before, Krista, but you get all the credit for my adult reading of Middle Grade books! My daughters don't get why I read MG. Maybe someday they will.
I am more inclined when I organize the family library to go by genre, author (alphabetical), and then if there are different series by the same author I alphabetize by series name and then correct reading order. I know my method seems too much or stressful. Happy Reading!
I have a problem with middle grade. I have a lot, and I was keeping them all in my bedroom…and I have 11 and 12 year old girls. 😂 I finally moved a lot of them to other parts of the house, and started a separate goodreads shelf just for middle grade, because I feel better when I can see the unread books I own that are actually just mine. And just because I have two middle graders, it's no excuse, because I started collecting them long before they were the right age to read them. But I admit it is soooo fun right now!! I’m currently reading The Clackity. My 11 year old is reading The Penderwicks, and my 12 year old is reading book 3 in the Pennyroyal Academy series. Hugs to you!
Yep, alphabetical by author is the way to go.M; so much easier to find books that way. Also, the Avi book; The True Confessions of Charlotte Doyle is very good.
@@BooksAndJams I'm sure I heard someone else speak about this book a few years ago. It was a favourite. I just can't remember who it was. I really hope it doesn't make me cry 🥲
I have my books arranged by author, but the sections of my bookshelves where I have all standalones that are the same size, those are rainbow and I love it!
It's fun to just have one section that is rainbow. I don't think it will be this middle grade shelf though. I have too many to fit in and rainbow wasn't working for me.
BAD PENNY despises 🌈! Prefers the AlphaBetYourSweetAsteRISK filing method. (BP worked for years in various Asylum Libraries.)😶 But seriously Krista "THE DARK IS RISING" movie is a sleeper cult classic for MG. I wish there would be a movie or series reboot. Luv ya❤
All my middle grade bookshelves are sorted in rainbow and it makes me so happy! It is sometimes hard to find a book, but totally worth it. I think you should try it! :)
Yeah, I have over 800 books on my shelves. I have plenty to share! Haha. Have to make some hard decisions to let some go. Makes me more excited about the ones that stay.
I truly agree with the librarian! Books should be in alphabetical order. Don't use your valuable time reorganizing your shelf again, use it to read something or something relaxing or fun! Happy Reading📚
A vote for RAINBOW! It will be so pretty. For myself, IF I had books, I probably wouldn't go rainbow because of my obsession to sort by author, but I do love looking at rainbow shelves...and this is only for the middle grades. DO it!
Thanks for your vote. Sneak peek - I didn't go with rainbow. I like how it looks better the way I ended up with. Stay tuned for the third middle grade shelf video and you'll see.
The rainbow didn't last long. I didn't like how it was looking. I just find alphabetical to be much more effective. I think I show a glimpse of it in part 3. Good luck with your bookshelves!
@@BooksAndJams I have some of mine in sections. Historical fiction is all together. I have Auschwitz together, non fictions are standing, fictional are stacked on their sides. Fantasy and sci-fi are together. Other things are together, but the rest are just wherever. I need to figure out how to make it look better.
If you want to be able to find a book, I wouldn't do the rainbow arrangement. I have a lot of books and I couldn't imagine having to worry about the color of a book spine in order to locate it. (Sometimes, I can barely find things, shelving by author!) I honestly don't know where that fad began -- whether it's something to do with interior design or people who are more into the look rather into practicality. LOL! I sound harsh, but even though it may look "pretty," I just find it so impractical.
Looks great Krista! I badly need to clean up my shelves too! You’ve motivated me I’ll just have to chunk away it like this so I don’t get overwhelmed haha! 💜
I was surprised you got rid of Hattie Big Sky since it was historical fiction about an orphan. I thought those were two topics you loved. I have that one, and it has great ratings but, I haven't got to it yet either. I don't know why I enjoy these video's so much. It might be because I won't get rid of my unread books unless I have duplicates. I just figure that I picked them up because I was interested so I at least have to give them a try. Also, I don't just get books sent to me so you probably get some that you didn't pick yourself.
I just have so many that I want to read more. I may read Hattie Big Sky someday, but it's not on my radar right now and I needed to make room. It's about keeping books on my shelves I'm really excited to read soon.
Krista, I read Hattie Big Sky last yar and I really liked it. There is a sequel , "Hattie Ever After. I liked it too. Why don't you try a chapter before you get rid of the first one.
I maybe should have done that, but it's not one that excited me when filming this so it didn't make the cut. I have so so many books I want to read! Hattie is more on my radar now though after all the comments about it. haha.
@@BooksAndJams I can understand that. It’s never worked for me either but I thought you would like it since I didn’t! lol. Mr Tom is sad so don’t read it right now.
Skylark's war was such a disappointment... started off so good and then just fizzled like she didn't care anymore or something. I love the rainbow idea. I did that for Lorna's YA stuff.
Totally get that. I want SOMEONE to tell me I missed something big so I go back and reread and discover I'm all wrong. No pressure or anything...@@BooksAndJams
I found each little bird that sings disturbing and quit after the first couple chapters 😅 Lyddie is great! When Hitler Stole Pink Rabbit is fantastic!!!

As a librarian, alphabetical by author is the way to go! 🙂 It’s so much easier to find them when they are alphabetical.
Yes, this is the decision I came to. I also just like keeping authors together as much as possible.
I agree
I don’t usually love books arranged by color, but 🌈 for Middle Grade would be awesome 👏 😎 👏
Sneak peak to the third part of my middle grade shelf...I don't keep the color! haha.
@@BooksAndJams 🤗
The Elephant in the Room is one of my favorite reads of 2024!
Sweet! I still need to read that one.

I’d love to see your middle grade in rainbow! ☺️
Yes!! You should definitely organize by color - these spines are so colorful too!
I loved The Year of Miss Agnes - it’s short and sweet!
I get so excited when I see these pop up in my feed 🤭
I've just added When Hitler Stole Pink Rabbit to my TBR and reserved at the library. Well done on unhauling!!
Nice. I am very interested in reading that one. Such an intriguing title!

The Year of Miss Agnes was really good. 4 star for me. Rainbow shelves would be fun!
I don't think I kept Miss Agnes. Oh well. I have plenty others to read. haha.
Nooks and Crannies! One of my favorite books ❤
We love a rainbow shelf. I have mine by author name tho because I find it easier to find stuff that way
I love how rainbow shelves look, but in reality I don't like it for my shelves. At least not for tbr shelves.
All my middle grade bookshelves are sorted in rainbow and it makes me so happy! It is sometimes hard to find a book, but totally worth it. I think you should try it! :)
I love how rainbow looks, but I decided I would rather keep authors together. Next one in this series will show the final product.
I think that you should keep all of them, as they are beautiful, hard to find, and u can share them with friends or their kids. 😊
Yeah, I have over 800 books on my shelves. I have plenty to share! Haha. Have to make some hard decisions to let some go. Makes me more excited about the ones that stay.
Ok that’s good
I have to watch this a couple more times so I can write all the books down I am interested in! Looks great BTW!
I've already filmed the third one and I love love love that shelf now! Makes me so excited for all my middle grade books!
So glad you kept Encyclopedia Brown!
I loved those books when I was a kid. It's fun to have one for nostalgia sake.
YES rainbow!!
Hmmm....we'll see!
I truly agree with the librarian! Books should be in alphabetical order. Don't use your valuable time reorganizing your shelf again, use it to read something or something relaxing or fun! Happy Reading📚
Rainbow would be fun for TBR for middle grade.
I agree, but it stresses me out too. I think I'm too much of a perfectionist when trying to set it up.
Hi Krista. Keep Hattie Big Sky and The Year Of Miss Agnes. Excellent books
Thanks for your input...but they're gone.
I gotta have them alphabetical to find the books. Plus I like to keep authors books together
Yes rainbow 🌈
Sadly I chose not to go with rainbow. But not too sad, because I love how it ended up. Part 3 coming soon!
the shelves look great! Artemis Fowl is one of my favorite series but I don't think you'd enjoy it based on what I know about your reading taste!
I am so glad I got my MG shelves done before all the prep for MGM! Thanks for the confirmation about Artemis Fowl.
Try rainbow for that shelf. Or part of shelf. I think it would be visually calming.
If you need a recommendation of what to read on your middle grade shelf- Some Kind of Happiness was really good!
A vote for RAINBOW! It will be so pretty. For myself, IF I had books, I probably wouldn't go rainbow because of my obsession to sort by author, but I do love looking at rainbow shelves...and this is only for the middle grades. DO it!

Rainbow Rainbow 🌈
We'll see...
I’m not voting rainbow as I like organized by author and series. Great job and going to be so ready for Middle Grade March!
I think my preference is by author too.
I'd love to see the rainbow shelf for the middle grade. Either today, or tomorrow, I'm working on my bookshelves.

RIght!?! haha. NO...I just need to keep reading the ones I have and not buy more! I did keep Mr. Tom, but think I put Miss Agnes in my Pango shop.
It's not there, I guess someone already bought it.
