Insane match from the 2013 Rugby Championship. This had so many crazy moments in it. Looks like the All Blacks managed to secure the win and another championship from this dominant era. Which other matches are of similar caliber? Let me know.

Nigel Owens said after the game that this was the best game he ever had the privilege to referee. South Africa had to score 4 tries to get an extra bonus point on the log and also deny New Zealand a bonus point by losing by less than 7 or scoring 4 tries themselves to win the Rugby Championship this (2013) year. Hence, both teams went at it. Not that they ever need extra motivation when facing one another.
The Springboks will play the All Blacks twice this year, both times in South Africa. Next year they will play the All Blacks twice in New Zealand. This will follow after the Springboks will host Ireland for a two-test series leading up to the Rugby Championship. So South Africa will play the teams ranked directly below them in the world in Ireland (2) and New Zealand (3) in 4 consecutive tests.
    31 August in Johannesburg
    7 September in Cape Town

Just FYI. When you heard the "Savea". That was Julian Savea. Older brother of Ardie. Ardie is currently one of the best players in the world and likely the player people have been mentioning.

ah ok cool. I'm noticing a big trend of bloodlines throughout the Springboks. Seems there are a lot of related players over the year.

@@EamonnReacts Both the Springboks and All Blacks have had many rich rugby bloodlines. Currently there are three brothers playing for the All Blacks in the Barret brothers. The Springboks had Jannie and Bismarck du Plessis, the one a hooker (2) and the other a tighthead prop (3). They are not related to the people I will mention now.
Many many years ago we had Carel du Plessis. His son Jean-Luc du Plessis currently plays for the Stormers. Carel had two brothers in Michael du Plessis and Willie du Plessis who were also both Springboks. Michael's son Dan du Plessis is also a Springbok. So Dan du Plessis and Jean-Luc du Plessis are cousins.
Then there are the three brothers Rob du Preez, Dan du Preez, and Jean-Luc du Preez. Sons of former Springbok Rob du Preez (Senior). They are also all Springboks.
Pieter-Steph du Toit is the grandson of Springbok Piet "Spiere" du Toit. "Spiere" is the Afrikaans word for muscle, because he was so strong.

not only was the game fantastic, the permutations around who would win the championship added to the drama.
To win the championship, the springboks had to win AND get a bonus point by scoring four tries, while also denying the all blacks a losing bonus point (losing by 7 points or fewer) and a four try bonus point of their own.
when jean de villiers scored the try by running over beauden barret, the springboks had the four tries they need... but there was still plenty of time on the clock and as we know, the all blacks of this era could just score at will. so they ended winning the match and the championship.
also look at the game of the century between the all blacks and the wallabies in 2000 in front of over 100 000 fans.

    Hi Eamonn
    A suggestion for a few other player/s.
I definitely believe that Stephen Larkham at number 10 and George Gregan nr9 was individual and as a combination some of the best for Australia.
The late 1990s to early 2000s was an era of unbelievable talent and you have legends like Carlos Spencer, Andrew Mehrthens for NZ at 10.
People like Joost van Der Westhuizen and Joel Stransky, for South Africa.
Not to mention others like Zinzan Brooke, Jona Lomu… really the list would be too long.
If you played for any of the three big teams in that era, Southern Hemisphere… chances are you are a hall of fame player.
The French were also another team and still is a team that can upset any team on their day.
Northern hemisphere teams have definitely improved in recent years as you know but some of the early players played a professional game but without the pay of today.

I was at this game and even though we lost quite convincingly at the end it was still the best match that I have ever had the privilege to witness in person.
Edit: This is also in my opinion the strongest team ever (ABs of that era) vs the probably the strongest (maybe rose tinted glasses) or one of the strongest Springbok teams ever.

Yo, All Blacks vs Fiji in San Diego later this year. Could be a goodie. Fiji are physical and fast, a nation slowly improving year by year but still a bit to go if they wanna really compete against tier 1 countries

TRC is home and away with all the others in the competition.
Winner is based on the bonus point system.
The Half does not end with the clock. Play must come to a stopping point such as a score, going into touch or an infraction such as a knockon. Play cannot end on a penalty. If the penalty is kicked to touch the lineout is still played along with any ensuing activity until a stoppage occurs.

  • @woodzk2330

During overtime, the game continues for both league and union until a knock-on, kick into touch, or forward pass occurs. Funnily enough, though, you can not end a game on a penalty. The penalty will be awarded, and game continues.
But also for league, once the hooter goes, it's the next tackle after which ends the game. Which is why you see winning teams slow up the play of the ball at the end of matches. 🤓

I'm going to try to keep things to sports. Doesn't need to be rugby/league but sports overall. Unless I'm looking at the wrong video. Thanks for the suggestion regardless.

It's definitely a good game, but the title of "Best match of the professional era" no longer belongs to this game. It definitely goes to the FRAvRSA Quarter Final at the 2023 Rugby World Cup. Honestly the IREvsRSA pool game from the 2023 RWC is arguably better than this game now.
edit: My slightly biased opinion says that the 2023 NZvsRSA Twickenham game where the Bokke gave the ABs the biggest loss in their entire history was the best, but that's just me 😂

Yeah I think the channel that made the video was just doing it for the clicks. Definitely an amazing game though. The France/South Africa game we took a look at and was amazing too. Need to check out the twickenham game.

Please dont be to phased by some of the negative comments. Rugby purests tend to have an inferiority complex in regards to League which makes absolutely no sense since rugby is globally the bigger sport.

That game sucked, we lost, the greatest game in rugby is the Boks winning the world cup against the all blacks last year......lol

    • @dane1056
      @dane1056 4 місяці тому

Yeah it's cool you won the cup but it amazes me how much SA fans put that game on a pedestal. You played 3 quarters of the game against 14 players and couldn't score a try. And that's against a team the entire world were saying was the worst ABs in history.
