- Here is the first episode from Series 16 featuring Nick Weir. This time there has been changes in this series instead of having the spot prize of when the contestant gets the catchphrase correct, which they had in Series 14, they had the travel bonus instead.
I love the whistling from the audience at 21.49. Incredible support for the contestant!
This series was recorded in 2001, but ITV were originally going to scrap it from transmission. But then they decided to show it. It was usually shown in a late afternoon/early evening slot on Sundays or Bank Holiday Mondays between late 2002 and early 2004.
Now although this edition of Catchphrase with Nick Weir was recorded in 2001, it wasn't shown on ITV until 2003.
Another thing I have noticed about the 16th series is that there are sound effects in the catchphrases.
i like this guy hes got passion and is obviously rooting for each contestant
I thought Nick Weir presented only two series (now I know he presented three). And I didn't know there were updated background graphics for the Super Catchphrase either (which the next series didn't have). Thanks for the series!
i used to like watching roy walker hosting catchphrase
Roy will always be the top host. His own catchphrases were just perfect and he was full of charm and energy. You can only strive to be second best presenter. I think Stephen Mulhern achieves that, he’s pretty funny.
This was just on Challenge earlier today
The moment Catchphrase was ruined
Fred Cowell Why,
If itv hadn't scrapped this from the beginning and force a weak Mark Curry to take over early 2002 instead to host catchphrase to replace this aborted series. Nick Weir would have probably hosted catchphrase for a very long time. This series is an improvement from series 14 and series 15 in terms of the catchphrases, sound effects and Weir's presenting style. I just wish itv had more faith in this revamped show and shown this series first in early 2002 than aborting it and replacing it with mark curry and then later deciding to air this series through scattering periods when it follows from the citv presentation from 5pm
Did they ever play music from the Roy Walker era in the Nick Weir/Mark Curry era?
Channel 5 Airing of 2001 episode:
19th August 2015
hi do you have series 16 from episode 2 onwards?
Interesting to see itv using this back drop in the credits in 2001 when I thought 2001 had the horrible side credits
I suppose if this series had aired in early 2002 as it was planned to, they would have used the ITV side credits, like the daytime series that year did. It only used the full screen credits because by the time it finally aired, ITV1 had launched their fully generic look.
Whatever happened to Nick Weir, he was great at presenting Catch phrase. He kind of reminded me of Michael Barrymore.
In looks and sense of humour. The last I heard he was an entertainer on Cruise ships.
He’s Royal Caribbean’s Vice President of Entertainment now! Met him a few years ago and he was a really nice guy.
@@imthelightguy OK Thanks.
I noticed that ITV shown Nick Weir's final series around late 2002-2003 until 2004, but why wasn't it shown around early 2002?
It was meant to be (I presume), but then ITV sacked Weir and replaced him with Mark Curry for series 17, and this also meant series 16 was originally scrapped from transmission (hence why series 17 is sometimes referred to as series 16). However, ITV later changed their mind after series 17 was airing and decided to show this series from late 2002 until early 2004.
I hate the bonus round on this version "Mark Curry also had this concept" Roy Walker's concept was better.
And itv are going to do a antler secures of catch phrase with ...
