Here's how I've scored each case: Catalyst Waterproof: 4.3 Eh's out of 5 Ghostek Nautical: 4.0 Eh's out of 5 LifeProof Fre: 3.6 Eh's out of 5 Totally forgot to mention them in the video.
MobileReviewsEh My problem with the catalyst waterproof case is it makes my screen look like crap. Although like you said every one of them has that problem
I havne't come across any waterproof case that doesn't suck the life out of the screen...even ones with glass screen protectors (Love Mei, old Incipio Atlas & Lunatik Taktik). The lack of adhesive on the screen protector will always result in odd screen protector artifacts.
MobileReviewsEh Just got my Catalyst Waterproof case for my IPhone XS & its awesome! But I noticed the buttons are stiff in a way where It doesn’t take much pressure to control the volume. The buttons work great when the back part of the case isn’t attached so I don’t know if I should contact Catalyst or not. Did you have the same problem as well??
Dropped my iphone 10 in the pool, must have been 3 or 4 seconds. Within 4 minutes, the iphone was ruined. Did not turn on and had water damage. YES. Waterproof cases are STILL needed. Trust this guy.
Dude. U forget about ppl that work in dirty jobs. Not office jobs. Water proof case dropped in tubs of oil. Trust me u want a fully sealed phone. Or dust and grit getting in the ear pieces.
Yep... Electrician in an Industrial environment surrounded by welders. Grinder Dust, Dirt, Oils, Copper... Etc. it either scratches the hell out of my phone or it messed them up... I bought an iPhone 11 Pro, and I didn't take my phone to work till my Catalyst Case came in... the Catalyst is my go to case nowadays as I wasn't impressed with the LifeProof FRÉ when I had it on a Galaxy S9 Plus.
I pretty much have to use one of these cases. I am a wildland firefighter and having the phone in your pocket or sitting in your fireline pack you’ll collect tons of dust or dirt and ash. So you’d need that protection also from the dirt and rocks and or whatever falls into your pocket it could scratch up the screen. I’ve have a life proof fre and also a catalyst the catalyst was my favorite... I want to try to use the ghostek. I’m afraid to use a slim case with an screen protector since I know I’ll get dirt and all that in the ports and speakers...
Brent I can relate as I used to be in the mudding and taping of drywall and drywall dust is a definite killer of Phones I had a Lifeproof Case on my old 5S and it worked well but since Subscribing to this Man's Channel I've discovered Ghostek & am really considering a Nautical from them or a Covert I have a iPhone xR now
Hmm, weekdays are a mix of too many office days mixed with weeks of field time walking thru wetlands and forests. And weekends on the water in a canoe or on a trail (think Provincial parks with canoe trails, not the nice camper camping) with SantaDog. Both waterproof and shock resistance matter and the day-to-day functionality won’t do in the outdooor context
I still buy waterproof cases just for the fact phones today say they are waterproof but they are not people still do get water damage on these phones and it is not covered under warranty.
Sound quality! I wanted to LOVE that Catalyst case - I actually tried two of them for my iPhone 7, but they had some strange issue where my transmission would just completely cut off during a phone call. It didn't just mute me a little bit, callers on the other end said my voice went completely dead during a phone call. It would happen after an extended period of the other caller talking. Could never figure it out. Catalyst was of no help - said they had never heard of it - despite multiple reviews stating the same on Amazon.
No, the iPhone works perfectly outside of the Catalyst case. And it worked perfectly when inside the Lifeproof Fre case (other than being a little muted) as well. I'm convinced the case was doing something to negatively affect the noise-cancelling microphones. Catalyst kept wanting to send me another case, but I just returned them to Amazon - I didn't have any confidence that a new case would fix the issue.
I'm a relatively new viewer (4 weeks) and for whatever reason (ignorance, stupidity) I never realized that the husky asian guy in your clips of older videos was, in fact, you! I thought maybe he was one of your friends who, for whatever reason, stopped helping you with your videos. Wow, man, you've really gone through one hell of a body transformation. Nice job, and thanks for these great reviews.
Speaking of improvements, I wish catalyst put a marking of some sort so you could know whether the rotary switch is on mute or umm, non-mute. That would make a big difference (on both of their cases, not just the waterproof), especially if you're in a meeting or something and just need to look down real quick at your phone rather than turning the screen on and moving the switch back and forth to make sure it's on mute. Hopefully they can do that....
Just a thought .. "waterproof" isn't as Important as its *ability to float* and not sink to the bottom in water. Most cases simply sink and most phones now are either IP67 or better IP68. In addition 360° impact resistant with at least 1/8" of uneven surface protection for a more robust case. For a ruggedized case I like the OtterBox.
For me, I don't mind having the case sink when I'm snorkelling. Easier to deal with than having the iPhone constantly trying to float to the top while swimming. As I said in the video, if you need it to float, the foam wrist strap is a good idea. In terms of protection, I'm confident that all three cases provide 360 degree impact protection. The plastic screen protectors on the case are quite tough.
@@MobileReviewsEh .. There are cases made specifically for diving .. none of these are for that purpose. IP67 and IP68 are not meant for anything but clean fresh water, not salt water, cokes, coffee, etc. Personally, I want something that floats even if I was scuba diving.
I use a waterproof case all year long because in the winter time I put my phone in my snow pants pocket that is wet and has snow in it and if your riding for 4+ hours I don’t want my phone to get water damage
WOW! Great review! I’ve been a follower for a while. THIS video was spectacular! Loved the multitude of different shots, background music, the composition. The way you compared the three different products really drove home how different they are. Great job!
Ok so ive had 3 iPhones in my life 4S, 6 & currently X for almost 1yr. With the 2 aforementioned phones i had the FRE. But like you said waterproof cases arent that important of an factor. Most important for me is protection of screen with a built in protector. Thats why i always liked the FRE. Is there any other cases that fully cover the phone besides these 3?
I’ve used Lifeproof Fre for my iPhone 5 & Nuud for my iPhone 6 plus & frankly I would say that the most annoying thing about Lifeproof’s case is the audio for the mic during calls. Seriously everyone who calls me when using these 2 cases will say they can’t hear my voice clearly, I sound far from the phone. (And yes, removed the air from the case before closing the ports. So every call I got I ended up opening the charging port before answering or before making a call.
I always use a water proof case cuz I’m a heavy equipment mechanic for a living but the image quality drops so much and the screen touch sensation is way different. Need a water proof case that your still able to use a good quality screen protector. Maybe you can do a review on cases for construction workers and mechanics the dirt/mud and grease/oil is a different animal. Chemicals do crazy things to some stuff. Love your channel. Long time watcher and follower of your channel. 👍🏻👍🏻
Great video! I live in the U.S. Virgin Islands and as a coral biologist, I'm on boats everyday surrounded by saltwater. I think it's important to include that just because phones are water resistant, doesn't mean they're protected from saltwater. That's a whole different ball game.
Great video! I need a waterproof case during the spring and summer months, as we spend a lot of time in and around water. I usually always just use a Lifeproof case but was very disappointed to see that the screen protector on it still sucks and the company hasn’t made any significant improvements to the design. Think I’m going to check out Catalyst this year!
Thanks for this video. It's one of the best ones I've come across comparing recent model waterproof iphone cases, and I have a friend who works a job where a phone can fall into puddles of stuff you never want to have to think about being directly on your phone.
I really appreciate you making a video with this Ghostek Nautical case. There aren’t many videos on it for some reason, and I def needed to see it in action.
Outdoors fishing, swimming and hiking YES we DO need a waterproof case! My son lost his iPhone 11 in a lake today and was not able to recover it so we will be investing in a phone pouch that floats! I’d like to see a review on two different waterproof cases sold frequently on Amazon one called Cozy Case and Sportlink. You definitely have some followers that want and need waterproof so please keep reviewing them. Thanks
Waterproofing is still important, I’ve had 4 iPhone X’s all stopped working due to water damage and of course water damage isn’t covered under apple care fact is iPhone didn’t back their waterproofing and as consumers neither should we
What was the red case? It looked the best and had a flat smooth stretched front case on the curb next to the black and white one? You didn't say anything about what phone gets the hottest in what case, with it being well over 100 degrees in the summer time especially for people that ride motorcycles, that is a very important factor! Could you say if any have overheated and closed the apps? Fre, Spartan/Stud are all 3 great and waterproof cases are amazing because they, well are water proof lol but seriously though, I love that they have the screen protector built in! Unfortunately I have not gotten to use the ghost techor the catalyst and I'm currently looking between all of these to order another one right now because all they had when I bought mine was the Defender and I absolutely hate it! I do have to say though, you are absolutely wrong about waterproof cases not being slim, there are several out there that are just as thin as a standard case, even the steampunk cases are "slim, ultra slim and razor thin"! The amount of glare that you gets all depends on how type the screen is, a lot of these are kind of just common sense things and all depend on how it fits the phone. STOP RUBBING THE MIC HOLE! It is good enough after 5 seconds lol
I have the LifeProof for X and I must say that it feels like going 10 years back to resistive screens. The plastic on the camera is really bad: it has already scratches even though my I bought the cover last month. So the photos are unfocused and blurry. However there were two reasons I bought it, well three if you count that it was the only “more rugged cover” left in the store that day. Firstly, the X has glass back. One must cover it. Although my previous phone was 7 and I dropped it and it did not brake the glass, it bend the phone so much than one could see inside it. That brings me to the second reason I bought the cover: it feels robust. So I hope that the bend energy goes to the cover rather than to the phone. Now that the new phones have come out, I just might take the cover out and buy a more appealing one.
I have had Lifeproof Fre for several years and am still a big fan of the protection they offer. But they do have issues. Firstly, I got frequent complaints from my listeners that they could not hear me well. Secondly, the back and even the front scratched a ton and looked awful after a while. The front screen always seemed to get air into it, causing bubbles. And finally, and most important for me( since I take a lot of photos), the protector on the camera lens would get dirty and the picture quality would be bad. So this time I am trying out the Catalyst - non waterproof - with a screen protector. Let's see how this works out. PS. I plan on taking my phone outdoors a lot. Things I am going to watch is the drop protection, Camera protection and Sound clarity
Just got the SE in December 2020, and require a waterproof case. This review is ok for the city dweller but not for the outdoorsman. I’m a kayaker that lives on a saltwater beach, protection is primary! So while these three cases, mostly the catalyst, is on my list I do want to look into those other adventure cases you mentioned. I was out with the dolphins in my sea kayak, my most epic encounter of all time and of course had to video it. Yes, it’s on my channel. My greatest concern was dropping my phone in deep water, so a wrist strap is important plus having a float on it would be important too. Still I keep my phone in a waterproof hard case as added protection. So the search continues! Presently my new SE resides in my modified lifeproof case from my iPhone 7 as impact protection only. My goal for the new case is not to use the ports, wireless charging, wireless earbuds, so I can keep the lightening jack clean and trouble free. I mentioned I live in salt and sand right?!
The difference between tech-boy here and people that actually GO OUTSIDE is the fact that WE (people that go outside) NEED a quality waterproof case when we're hiking, biking, camping, shooting, kayaking, climbing, etc...and NOT sitting in a cubicle-farm all day long, stuck in an office, staring at a computer screen. For those of us that are ACTIVE, we need a good, functional waterproof case that is also affordable. Overall this was very informative and (once you ignore his biases, slams and sarcasm), gave me more info than I had before. Advice...when addressing these cases in the future, add a caveat that says something along the lines of, "These cases are designed for the outdoor enthusiast that hikes, kayaks, snorkels, etc., and NOT the average, everyday, office worker-bee that has no life outside of their home and their office-prison".
You’re right about not needing a waterproof case... last summer my son jumped in the deep end of the pool🤦♀️ I dove in fully clothed to get him out. Once we were out of the pool and calm, my uncle pointed out that I had my iPhone in my back pocket. No damage!
Hey, great video :) You gave the me a lot of very pertinent information and it helped me a lot with my decision making about waterproof phone cases. However you didn’t touch on the one thing I was very concerned about and that’s how well the person I’m talking too can hear me ! All of these waterproof phone cases make you sound like your underwater from the listeners perspective. The main thing I wanted to know was which one of these cases was the least obnoxious to the person I was speaking too. Also, my main attraction to a waterproof phone is the ability to use it in the shower. It sounds weird but it’s awesome to check your stocks or watch a video in shower so submersion isn’t the only application of a waterproof case. You make great product review videos , thank you for taking the time to make them and I hope my comment helps you a little bit.
I’ve been considering upgrading to a lifeproof for my new phone and on lifeproof’s website it looks like they are much more strict on the warranties now which is really unfortunate. That was the biggest reason why I felt I could justify that price.
Love this new format with more music and action. ESP simple things like the iPhone and case side by side, then swing *poof* iphone is in the case. I know this format is overused by many youtubers, but I feel it works well. Great content! Been subscribed since 2015, I think. Many years, lost count.
Thanks for the comment. I've been working on my editing the last couple of months. I'm actually really excited with the new format...the transitions seem to work really well when there is an actual point to them.
Can you do an updated review on waterproof cases for the iPhone 11 models? (Pro?) Please! I had to replace my old SE because it went swimming at a water park, even though it was in a waterproof bag. I don't need it for daily use, but after dropping this much cash on a phone, I need to make sure it doesn't get wet on a trip, and can last me a few years! Thanks!
Totally agree. Doesn’t seem like the benefit is worth the inconvenience anymore with phones themselves being decently waterproof outside of intentionally swimming/underwater photography.
Their not salt proof though lol, my kids threw my phone in the ocean. And didn't make it back to the room for like 5hrs, and didn't make it back in time to throughly wash the salt out. And a few months later my phone started acting stupid and bizarre. Luckily samsung let me turn it in with my warranty and have me a new phone. Now, I definitely buy a waterproof case😂😂
I had a lifeproof case and the silence mode switch broke. I used it for a while until I got a new one. It was so annoying having to open the case to flip the switch. However, for the time I used, it it protected my iPhone 7 to keep it still looking great, to the point I was able to trade it in for my new phone.
So for paddle boarding, taking some pictures while out and maybe doing some snorkeling while on vacation for a few weeks I picked the catalyst...had the GoPro but then had to get all these accessories and you end up being so busy with all this stuff just to get some great video or pictures...just wanna have some decent protection and take some great pictures while out with friends on the water...but was still wondering between catalyst or proshot for when I will be doing some snorkeling in the Caribbean...Will catalyst be just fine??
I work in a restaurant and always around water and do lots of boating. My galaxy s9 actually got ruined when i was at work and it fell into some blueberry glaze lol. I now have an iPhone X and just ordered the Ghostek Nautical 2 for it after watching this awesome review. Can’t wait to check it out and get some good protected for my iPhone X 👌
I am in the military and just got an iPhone X. I do a lot of various mission from jumping out of aircraft to water operation, what is your suggestion for the most rugged waterproof case? I know you mentioned the catalyst is that about the best?
I bought the Fre with my XS Max,3 days later I bought the UAG Monarch, that & the Apple battery case seem to be my go to cases even though I own over 20, love the channel!!!
What are your thoughts on the HitCase Splash? I'm not loving the built in screen protector look and a bit wary of the simple installation which seems to have an easily removable front.
Great video! I’d love to see a video on the best 2-in-1 or multifunction type cases like those ones that have wallet attachments that can be removed, that waterproof one that has a thinner inner case that slides in and out of it. That sort of stuff.
MobileReviewsEh oh I didn’t realize they stopped making it. I’ve really been wanting something like the totallee cases that I can put something like the dbrand bumper/case *over* when I need the drop protection. Most of the day I only need scratch protection but I like changing the look of my phone often so skins would be a huge pain. Maybe I need to invent one myself. Lol.
My 2 concerns. 1, I was watching another review and it showed the Catalyst having MUCH clearer video (camera) than the Lifeproof. It appeared in your video that Ghostek had the clearest, Catalyst had the 2nd, and lifeproof was the least clear. However, I think the other review said that he has had the lifeproof longer. Of the 3, were they all "new" or at least not worn? 2nd question, is if you could use a micrometer or other device to measure thickness compared to the 3 in your review. On amazon, the lifeproof has the cheaper price, then Ghostek, followed by Catalyst being the most expensive. This is searching for the Iphone 12 mini. GREAT REVIEW!!! THANK YOU!!!
I didn’t think I needed waterproof case either but I use my iPhone XS Max as my GPS on my motocycles and on one wet, rainy 6 hour ride, my phone ended up with water damage (first time I use my applecare since for ever). So, I will be getting one for when I ride. Otherwise, I agree, no need for waterproof.
Thank you. For sharing the only reason I’m looking to get another waterproof case is because they’re the only ones that have a phone screen protection for the iPhone X you go to OtterBox you go to any other iPhone protector please and they don’t have a front screen for Tection on it but thank you for what you showed looking forward to seeing more videos.🤙🏻
A couple days late I usually go with the Lifeproof Frè if I need a Waterproof Case on certain occasions however when I go to Colorado in the Winter sometime I am reconsidering that with my iPhone X and thinking about going with the Catalyst Waterproof and also thinking about getting their impact case when I am paid this weekend. I don’t use a Waterproof Case on the daily mostly if I am going on vacation where I am in water, there might be dust or Snow and activities like Snow Skiing ⛷. I don’t care for the plastic screen protectors but that’s just the nature of Waterproof Cases.
I never drop my phone but I bought the lifeproof fre a couple days ago because I just like knowing my phone is protected and looking good. I have a tempered glass screen protector and I don’t want to take it off, can you really not use the fre with any screen protectors?
Maybe one of these companies should sell a bundle package with one modification: 1). Sleek iPhone case that’s durable but not waterproof and 2) Waterproof case - the modification would be in the ease of removal. If we can remove the case fast and easy, we pop the iPhone out and pop the other one on as needed
My iPhone X got blown into the shallow end of my pool by a freak wind storm. The phone from the day it was taken out of the Apple box was put into a Pelican Voyager case with interceptor screen protector for drop and screen protection. The water depth is just under 1m and as soon as it hit the water I rushed to rescue the phone. The phone was in the water for less than 10 seconds, but it died. Water ingress shorted the main processor on the logic board. IP67 rating on the iPhone X is supposed to be 1m for 30 minutes, but I now know that
Real life scenario that really made me think "why do I need a waterproof case" Just this past weekend I flipped my kayak in the Weeki Wachee Springs river in Weeki Wachee Springs FL, dumped my phone (Iphone12pro in a quadlock case), wallet & car keys. Somebody actually RECOVERED all 3 of my items & the phone was never shut off & still had a full battery the next day. That means this phone sat in the VERY current strong river for essentially 24 hours & was still able to be used. Do modern day cell phones even need this type of water protection these days?
Hi, of all cases you've tested thus far which one has the hardest and thickest clear cover on the back of the case for the rear camera lens on the iPhone 7/8? I am looking for the toughest protection for the camera lens, it's hard to tell by looking at the video reviews and in most cases this is not a feature that it's spoken about. Most of the cases seem like flimsy plastic films over the rear camera lens cutout opening on the back of the case. Thank you in Advance!
I got a ghostek nautical, the first case had holes where the speaker is so it leaked. Contacted Ghostek and they replaced it but the second case started peeling around the seems when I want to switch cases to my Loopy. When the Nautical is on my phone you can see the gaps in the seams of the case.
Love your videos though, been watching since I got an Iphone 6 and the Loopy is the best case I have ever gotten, that I would've never known. Keep up the good work, much love.
Awesome comparisons! What about best/slimmest dust resistant cases? Any recommendations? Use case is protecting a phone mounted on bicycle used in extensive outdoor touring
Nice video! I was wondering (since you’ve tested both of these cases) what you would pick between the Pitaka Magcase Pro and the Mous carbon fibre case?
I work in a factory and I use the Ghostek nautical for my note ten ultra and note ten plus . I live in chicago I love waterproof cases because we have rain snow all kinds of stupidit things. Yes Samsung phones are water resistant but I rather have the extra layer of protection.
Fantastic video mate, I know your channel is dedicated to the iPhone but you seem like the most knowledgeable person on UA-cam when it comes to waterproof cases so was wondering what waterproof case would you recommend for the Samsung Galaxy S10? Thanks.
I bought the fre last week and returned it today. Makes the screen looks incredibly terrible. Why have a top of the line phone when the screen protector makes it look grainy and blurred. Not to mention it’s supposed to protect against dust but dust definitely still got inside
So, Otterbox stopped making the built in screen protector when the curved edge iphones came out. What do you recommend that has a built-in screen protector? I don't like the limited protection of the aftermarket screen protectors. Thanks!
My friend has the green one with the edges but it’s broken but the has a 7 plus so she thinks the case is protecting it from water but it’s really just the phone
thanks for the thorough review sir, helped me make up my indecisive mind on which one I should get from amazon haha. i'll use your link to help you out too! cheers
Great video. I'm eyeballing the Ghostek Nautical but I am concerned my aftermarket lightning cable will not be able to fit into the female end on the iPhone 8. I own a Pelican Marine which I'm not too thrilled with and it has this exact same problem. Any input as it relates to the Ghostek?
Thank you for your informative review. We don’t all live in the concrete jungle. I’m a rancher and my daily driver is a Kawasaki Mule; hence waterproof phone cover. It’s not about water but dust, dirt, cow dung, and everything else that can ruin your phone.
How do the cases stand up against dust? I’m a landscaper and I’ve had a lifeproof and a pelican in the past and with both overtime people have had difficulties hearing me. Any experience would help
I hate the loss of functionality on the screen. But went kayaking with my 11promax and it went in 3-4 ft of water and got ruined. Water behind the camera lens and kept restarting every two minutes. Just turned it in to upgrade and bought the catalyst of Amazon by mistake thinking I clicked on the life proof and am still unsure if I should keep it. What’s the best non water proof case?
So to use my XS Max in underwater at the sea, do you recommend Catalyst? Does this support wireless charging? IF I already have a glass screenprotector, is the input affected? To use every day okay? I ask because in other videos everyone praised the FRE . Thanks ;)
I love to watch these videos I have broken about 5 phones and I'm only 12 years old by testing dollar and speck, tech 21, and otter box commuter and I have similar results
I’ve been looking for the same blue catalyst waterproof case. I work as a veterinary technician and sadly occasionally get messier then id like and need a waterproof casing ASAP. Do you ever consider selling your cases that you no longer use? I’d be more then happy to buy it off of you. Please let me know. Thank you for your time.
I was distracted with the arm flexes lol I use to love lifeproof but it’s always been a case with crappy sound quality coming in tingy, and wasn’t sure if cell reception was affected due to the case or not, now a days I don’t think they are especially with the “5G compatible” ones. It’s so hard to shop for a dust proof case these days :/ colors suck depending on the model, like the 13 mini doesn’t have good color selections versus the bigger phones which sucks because it’s a nuisance for me with small hands
One thing that I would love to see included in your reviews is comparing the quality of photos(stills and video) in the case. I have a life proof and my pictures ( on an 11 pro) have a white glow that I noticed on your video as well. Second- the vulnerability to rubber breakdown with sweat, bug spray, and sun block. I get it you are in Canada but nevertheless...life proof really stank at bring up the camera fast too. IMHO.
Ok check this out: here’s your proof for a waterproof case. I use my iPhone in the jacuzzi bath. It’s a distresser , quiet time for me away from an insanely hectic life. I often spend 1 to 2 hours jn the bath and I like to audio journal using notes app on my iPhone. Not to mention the perusing of Amazon which requires a lot of clicking on screens so I need both great audio and touch. I don’t think I can accomplish those without them is my intent is to do this in the bath can I?
Even with the XS with ip68 if water some how gets into the phone your warranty is over. And I’ve read people have had issues with XS and XS max devices being ruined by water.
During this pandemic, waterproof case comes to shine. You can wash your phone with soap without having to worry. And yes, currently Catalyst is the best option.
Here's how I've scored each case:
Catalyst Waterproof: 4.3 Eh's out of 5
Ghostek Nautical: 4.0 Eh's out of 5
LifeProof Fre: 3.6 Eh's out of 5
Totally forgot to mention them in the video.
Sorry, side note, I love how at the end you said, Go, and Monte ran away!!.. lol..
MobileReviewsEh My problem with the catalyst waterproof case is it makes my screen look like crap. Although like you said every one of them has that problem
Had to prove he was a real dog!
It's not about just water. It's about dirt/dust/powder getting into the open holes. Not all of us work in cushy, clean office jobs.
Agreed…I work in an office but I’m clumsy and I drop my phone in everything
Facts
Dropped my iphone 10 in the pool, must have been 3 or 4 seconds. Within 4 minutes, the iphone was ruined. Did not turn on and had water damage. YES. Waterproof cases are STILL needed. Trust this guy.
Dude. U forget about ppl that work in dirty jobs. Not office jobs. Water proof case dropped in tubs of oil. Trust me u want a fully sealed phone.
Or dust and grit getting in the ear pieces.
Exactly. I work in landscaping and I wanted my iPhone XS Max to be dirt/water/drop proof
@@genegnome2556 So which case would you go with?
Which case did you go for?
Isaac Pacheco welder here. Yes the grinding dust destroys the speakers of any phone. Any water proof case helps.
Stay with the waterproof cases!
Same I bought the ghosttek just for waterproof
Sound quality! I wanted to LOVE that Catalyst case - I actually tried two of them for my iPhone 7, but they had some strange issue where my transmission would just completely cut off during a phone call. It didn't just mute me a little bit, callers on the other end said my voice went completely dead during a phone call. It would happen after an extended period of the other caller talking. Could never figure it out. Catalyst was of no help - said they had never heard of it - despite multiple reviews stating the same on Amazon.
Thanks for the comment! This issue never happened when the iPhone was out of the case?
Thanks for the support! it's been neat watching the older videos and seeing how much I've changed over the years.
I think it use to matter but looking at the inside of the case, I don't anymore. One turn of the knob should set the mute switch in place.
You could have said Unmuted.
Great job!
I've been working on my editing the last couple of months. Glad you noticed!
Great review. Find you’re correct as to no improvements on the lifeproof. I work in a water rich environment so I want the extra protection
Phew. It's not just me.
Great video! I live in the U.S. Virgin Islands and as a coral biologist, I'm on boats everyday surrounded by saltwater. I think it's important to include that just because phones are water resistant, doesn't mean they're protected from saltwater. That's a whole different ball game.
That’s where I’m from and I use the nautical for my phone
Thanks
Waterproofing is still important, I’ve had 4 iPhone X’s all stopped working due to water damage and of course water damage isn’t covered under apple care fact is iPhone didn’t back their waterproofing and as consumers neither should we
Yikes. Maybe AppleCare+ is needed?
One of the best comprehensive reviews for waterproof cases I've seen. Definitely helped me decide.
I have 4 lifeproof fre cases for my Xs Max absolutely love them!
You gonna review how you get biceps like that?
Lift heavy. Eat clean. Eat lots.
I’ve been considering upgrading to a lifeproof for my new phone and on lifeproof’s website it looks like they are much more strict on the warranties now which is really unfortunate. That was the biggest reason why I felt I could justify that price.
I bought the catalyst case water proof last week i love it 😍
kirby matteo how is the screen protector on it? Does it scratch easy?
Love this new format with more music and action. ESP simple things like the iPhone and case side by side, then swing *poof* iphone is in the case. I know this format is overused by many youtubers, but I feel it works well. Great content! Been subscribed since 2015, I think. Many years, lost count.
Thanks for the comment. I've been working on my editing the last couple of months. I'm actually really excited with the new format...the transitions seem to work really well when there is an actual point to them.
The Lifeproof is actually cheaper than the Catalyst (at least on amazon)
Great video. Always like your videos. What glasses are you wearing in this video? I like those too.
They are a brand called Japonism. Bought them a long time ago.
Thanks!
E T don’t use the Lifeproof Frē. The bubbles on the screen are freaking awful!!
Just ordered my catalyst, thank you
Hey Aaron, nice editing :)
Thanks! It's been something I've been working on the last couple of months.
Which one fits a glass screen protector?
Which one is better for preventing lint and stuff getting underneath the screen? Lifeproof fre or Catalyst? Thank you...
Great and informative video as always 👌🏻
:)
What are your thoughts on the HitCase Splash? I'm not loving the built in screen protector look and a bit wary of the simple installation which seems to have an easily removable front.
Can you describe more? Thinking about getting it. Is it good waterproof? What are the pros and cons
Great video!
I’d love to see a video on the best 2-in-1 or multifunction type cases like those ones that have wallet attachments that can be removed, that waterproof one that has a thinner inner case that slides in and out of it. That sort of stuff.
I wish cases like that existed! The old Optrix XD6 was like that but they stopped making them after the 6.
Catalyst is fave. Love the lanyard one (non waterproof).
The impact protection is sweet.
Which one is way more better? Catalyst or pelican marine?
Hello., im now o one of your hundred of thousands subscriber., i like the way you explain., thumbs up👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Can you Use A Screen protector ? With the cases
No, theyre not built for having a screen protector underneath them
The glass of the back of my iPhone has chipped away to the point where I can see the panels in my phone, what case will work for me
I never drop my phone but I bought the lifeproof fre a couple days ago because I just like knowing my phone is protected and looking good. I have a tempered glass screen protector and I don’t want to take it off, can you really not use the fre with any screen protectors?
Hello. Excellent videos!! I was wondering if the Catalyst has a case that has a screen protector?? Thank you for your timely response
Very good video. Very informative. Looking at the FRE for the XS and not sure if I will buy now.
13:27 you can't really trust the p hi one company's if they actually water resistant
I got a ghostek nautical, the first case had holes where the speaker is so it leaked. Contacted Ghostek and they replaced it but the second case started peeling around the seems when I want to switch cases to my Loopy. When the Nautical is on my phone you can see the gaps in the seams of the case.
Yikes. Thanks for the comment.
Definitely Mous. Handles better.
MobileReviewsEh Thanks! And which is more slim?
I work in a factory and I use the Ghostek nautical for my note ten ultra and note ten plus . I live in chicago I love waterproof cases because we have rain snow all kinds of stupidit things. Yes Samsung phones are water resistant but I rather have the extra layer of protection.
I have had 4 fre iphone cover the front of the cover keeps melt in my hand where i always touch it. when on the phone
Totally agree.
Out of all waterproof cases, which ones can I use with a screen protector?
Amazon has the life proof case for $44.00 for the fre.
Deals!
CATALYST FOR THE WIN!!! Love my catalyst case. I just saw them in the apple store also. Nice.
Are there any waterproof cases that work with glass screen protectors too??? @cumward @clevername333
I watch your adds to help you out. I don’t do that for everybody haha
Thanks for the support!
How is the built in screen protector on the catalyst does prohibit you from properly and effectively using the screen or is it pretty good?!
Thanks ;)
Hey great reviews. How about the extreme hydro gt case. Any reviews on their stuff?? Thanks.
I love to watch these videos I have broken about 5 phones and I'm only 12 years old by testing dollar and speck, tech 21, and otter box commuter and I have similar results
why do you need a phone at 12 years old. let alone 5 lol
Can you do a review on hitcase pro
I hate waterproof cases as much as anyone but since my 8 plus just died because of water damage I’m definitely getting one...
I don’t think I can accomplish those without them is my intent is to do this in the bath can I?
good review better than most people out there
My xs max was one of the few to get water damage and not have working Face ID. I dropped it in 12 inches of water. Ended up getting replaced.
