Bwahaha - Amazing. When I was 13 I tried to work out this bass-line, but assumed he was playing the stick! Thank you, thank you...
🙏
excellent
Dan, seriously loving your teaching style, especially the wandering off into music theory and improvisation. So much more informative than the approach so many guitar channels use, where you don't even know what key you are in.
Thanks, Andy. I try to keep it relevant with context (if I can remember to do so!). 👍🙏
Also one of my favorites. I taught it to myself, but thank you Dan for for showing the finer points.
Mine too! 🙏👍
Came across your lesson just now as I’m looking for something challenging to learn over Christmas break. Lovely teaching style my friend. Thank you!!
Thanks! Merry belated Christmas.
Levin's use of the Chapman Stick extends into the low B range. He has used that instrument on Peter Gabriel s music,King Crimson's and a whole host of other artists' music.
Great demonstrations, love your talent and your intention to teach. Thanks very much
🙏🙏
Thanks one of my favourites and brilliantly explained!
Thanks very much!
Good stuff. Thanks!
Thanks for watching!
very helpful , thanks
🙏
Sounds almost Montiverdi chamber music style when you break it down Dan. Many thanks for the lesson.
Thanks for watching. Interesting observation!
Awesome lesson. But, when Tony first recorded this line and then played on the So tour, it was on a 4 string. He played the Eb on the A string. Now, whether or not he used an Octaver or something, I don't know. I do know it was originally on a 4 string Stingray.
Just found your channel. Amazing tutorial, just right really. I can now play the four parts of the verse, very slowly, along with you. Now a question of practice and get up to speed. Nice technical explanations of the chords as well. I really like your presentational style, well done. Now onto the rest of it!
Thanks very much and well done. Keep it up!
@@OnlineBassCourses the facility on UA-cam to slow the video without affecting the pitch is amazing. When I started learning nearly fifty years ago we had record players, and you had to keep lifting the arm off the record and put it back on a few grooves earlier to repeat difficult passages!
It was cassettes for me!
@@OnlineBassCourses equally inconvenient!
Just checked this one out Dan.
Great line and a tricky one in some ways as you mentioned.
Playing the double stops, requires quick left hand shifts or fingers and muting is also important, which I use my right hand thumb as you do, resting it on the open A string.
You might have a lesson on the floating thumb technique already, but if not, would be a good one to make.
A suggestion for another potential lesson, if you haven't already is, alternate finger picking vs raking.
How and when to etc. Cheers
Thanks. Great suggestions (all in a book being released soon actually...)!
Brilliant, thank you. One question, how do you make those backing tracks? Tool, pedal or ?
Thanks! I do have a Beat Buddy pedal which I’ll use in some future videos.
Otherwise, it’s Band In A Box or making a quick track in Logic Pro.
Again thank you Dan for this lesson! (btw another great bass line of Tony on a much less known piece is "Beyond My Reach". I'd love to have your own analysis of this bass line)
You’re welcome. I don’t know that one - I’ll check it out!
Didn't Tony use his fretless on this one?
I’m pretty sure it was fretted but I could be wrong…
