Spot on Reekay. Just back from a 4 mo. Trip to SE Asia (Thailand, Vietnam, Philippines). Planning for retirement ealy 2025 to Chiang Mai and/or Philippines...need more time in both places. Cheers!
Though I was thinking that but with Thailand as base. Better food, safety, weather (earthquakes, volcanos and typhoons), medical/dental and infrastructure and prices. But for, If, marriage or family, the Philippines . 😊
The problem with the other SE Asia countries is that the girls don't want age gap relationships. Filipinas do. That immediately disqualifies every other SE Asia country. Even in Thailand, if you try age gap they are *REALLY* into "no money, no honey" mindset, they are very transactional even for women standards. In Philippines they put in a smidge of feelings at least.
as i've said so often, you take a year knowing them in-person to observe their consistency of character. online.. forget it. that's a waste of time and money. you cannot verify anything from 7,000 miles away no matter what she says in a short video-chat. for all you know she logs off from the chat and then makes dinner for her husband or lesbian girlfriend.
You can get O retirement visa through an agent if your over 50 very easily in Thailand for a fee and actually encourage you to do that Bank set up with that as well then all you need to do is 90 day reports to immigration and that can be done through the Agent for less than 3 Dollars if you dont want to go in person and waste half a day and it gives you one year and easy to repeat the process and cheaper than the initial set up
I liked the video. I currently live in SE Asia in another country not mentioned. But the video brought out some good points, some of them new to me and others are time honored. My first visa in the Philippines was for 10 years. But that was 50 years ago. I spent 8 years living on the island of Palawan. But my business took me around to quite a few of the other main islands. In Vietnam I was there before 1975 and then after starting in 1994. It is a beautiful country. That said, it is one of the few remaining communist countries that survived the soviet union collapse by integrating business with doctrine - like China. So, they apparently do have a rather large part of their military involved in internet surveillance. So, it's basically a trade off - Vietnam has more security/less crime while Philippines has more freedom/ more crime. Still I enjoyed the Philippines more. Why? "katotohanan" = they are more comfortable in speaking the truth. In Vietnam "luoi o suon nhu duong lac leo" = most are comfortable with lying. Lying started during the war by everyone teaching their kids to have 2nd and 3rd names for security reasons... and it just continues on from there.
during my year in vietnam, i always had bottled water for drinking. i did use the tap water to make soup and coffee since it is brought to high temp. i didn't have any issues.
If I'm going anywhere for a week or more, I spend about a month learning the language before I go. The exceptions are countries that widely speak English or if I'm going on a tour or will have translation available. You just get so much farther with locals if you respect them enough to learn their language and customs.
@@Lifebeyondthesea only English and Spanish. I don't get fluent in a month but conversational isn't too hard with Babbel or Rosetta Stone. I also lose it if I don't use it much. I went to Turkey for my honeymoon, that was like 16 years ago....anything I learned I've forgotten by now lol. I am really good at blending and learning local customs though. Getting with a guy like you when you hit the ground is a great start
I think all are very good to experience at least once I agree with the man doing the video but out of all of them I'm looking for the easiest one with the visas and staying issues the heat does not bother me I live in Arizona where it's 104° most of the time of the year sometimes it's 137 degrees outside when I'm trimming the trees😢😢😢😢 and I go out there to do it myself so I can get used to that high temperature to see if I can do it at this age and I did I'm still alive talking to you😂😂😂😂 so if the temperature is 150 degrees and above then I'll have a problem,,,,🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
So, I suppose that countries like Singapore, Malaysia don’t make the comparison list because they’re much more expensive. I hear great things about Singapore ….
Malaysia is very affordable. If you want to stay in a long-term visa, you need to be able to prove income and I think assets as well. Additionally, it’s impossible to have a long-term marriage relationship with Malay unless you become Muslim. Kuala Lumpur is modern, inexpensive, safe and clean.
i went to vietnam to enjoy living there, which i did. on a visa-run to davao (for my vietnam visa) is when i met my (now) wife for the first time. so for that reason i returned to the PH.
Greetings, my Filipina wife of 27 years and I are retiring to the Philippines. I have been there several times. We plan to travel, maybe 6 mths US and 6 mths Philippines. My question is about cell phones. Is there one plan or carrier that works in the US and Philippines? We currently have Verizon and I don’t want to pay the high international rates nor pay for a US number that we are not using for 6 months. Any thoughts or suggestions?
I believe as long as there is money anywhere is nice to live but Philippines is as expensive as japan. since I regularly travel to Japan philippines yearly.. The price of apartment in Philippines is crazy
@@benfernkay8974 true very true. Every year I travelled twice in the Philippines but I decided no longer go there. It is unbelievable rental and food price as well nevertheless to say about the way taxi charge you. Philippines no longer a good option to live. The only advantage is that , they speak english
@@Lifebeyondthesea same with Thailand and I'd assume Vietnam, unless you marry a native. I was just wondering if owning property made it easier to get a long term visa.
