Growing up in the 80s you were constantly bullied for liking anime because it's lame and in black and white and you were basically a homosexual for liking it. I constantly got made fun of for liking it. Disclaimer, I was never bullied for being me, just for liking that anime/manga. Now, kids today are consumed by it, it's wild.

I didn't think I was going to relate to this, but here I am silently crying in my bedroom. High School is many years behind me at this point, but some of the things that happened still sting at times. I hope to find a group of supportive friends one day because being alone with your interests definitely gets very lonely.

I’ve been watching anime since I was 9, I’m 23 now. I gotta say times have changed. Now half the people I talk to watch it or are interested. I even got people who hate animation in general (Cartoons, anime etc…) to watch some. I’m so glad that it’s not something to be nervous about anymore and we have a whole culture and group of people to express ourselves with.

Oh please!! Life is too short to hold back on doing things that make you happy. Liking Hello Kitty is not hurting anyone, and just because some people don't understand doesn't mean you should stop doing what you love. I don't know how old you are, but I am in my 20s and I love pink "kawaii" things. Some people might think I am too old to like those things, but I don't give a damn lol. There is something for everyone when it comes to anime. There is so much anime out there it's insane. One of the best features of anime is that it's guarded by an entire culture and can't be corrupted the same way our comics can.

I agree with your opinion. I've been an anime fan since I first watched Pokémon B&W in 2013. Since then, I've been a hardcore fan with my top favorites being Pokémon, BNA, Sailor Moon, and many of the films by Ghibli Studios. I was lucky that no one ever bullied me for it, but I do feel sorry for those who have. Also, while I haven't created 100% original ideas, I have created fanfic timelines of various anime, mainly the ones I mentioned, which include characters of my own creation, and (in the case of Pokémon and BNA) continuations and crossovers.
And what you said about anime being better than most other tv shows and movies, total thumbs up. Most of the new stuff I watch these days are new anime episodes.
