errybody, it was a touching ball, so you can play the blue and not foul. Basically it assumes that the red is already made before the shot has been played.
Knowing the intricacies of billiards comes in handy when playing snooker. Many of the shots in this video are "bread and butter" for a class billiards player.
Its actually bit too hard to grasp. Reds are worth 1, colours are worth 2 - 7. It goes red, colour, red, colour etc. Then the colours have to be potted in a certain order. Black is worth 7. Look up 147 break to get the order of the potting :) as for snookering an opponent - to put the cue ball where they cant play a shot - meaning they have to concede the frame. A frame is 1 game to you an I. A match is the entire thing, they do best of 11-17 off the top off my head
Let me tell you. Snooker players are not hustling the other player they are playing the balls trying to score enough to win each frame. Snooker is man vs the game not the opponent. They couldn't care what the other guy does.

@@maxington26 is it because as it's a touching ball when you strike the cue ball you've basically already hit a red, so you can cannon onto whatever you like?
I stopped the video after the first shot before getting cringed more. It's not clever, It's basic to think and hard to execute. Snooker can't be complicated if you have a carom and pool background.
Was there even a crowd there? I'm not going back to look, but there were no spectators during covid, so that may explain it. They generally used an applause track, but it wasn't very good, and they missed playing it for some shots. The operator may have been stunned by the shot and forgot to hit the button maybe.
I’m not sure what’s so clever about O’Sullivan’s shot at 6:46. He’s left an easy red to the left corner pocket of the baulk area for Williams. Ok so Williams would still require 1 or 2 snookers but O’Sullivan has still left him with an easy shot to get back in control and find the snooker(s) he requires.
@@aeaeaeluis maybe it was, it was Mark Williams after all , but I don't think this was just luck because I have seen Judd Trump hit a safety shot like this too.
I played snooker for 30+ years. Anybody with a cursory understanding of the rules, and the slightest experience with the game knows the touching-ball rules. Nothing even remotely clever about this as a rank amateur would know to do this.
@@KrudlerTheHorse I've been watching for over 20 years and have never seen it before. I guess it's just goes to show how infrequently that specific situation occurs. the trump one near the start i thought was just an amazing cut but after slowing it down it appears he plays the red off the black. insane. wish i was this good
Definitely gotta say my personal favourite is Selby, he’s got the pots when it counts and is easily the smartest tactical player that’s played in years
The black ball was safe and he needed it to win the frame! He used the pink ball to bring the black into play and left the pink ball safe for his opponent!
Basically he used the black to stop the pink going over the pocket. Nothing to do with bringing the black into play. Clever play but not that outstanding considering the rest in the video.
When opponent finishes a shot and the cue ball ends up touching a red ball the referee must call a "touching ball". Under that rule it means that the following player can now play away from that red that is in contact with the cue ball. You can have the option of hitting no other balls or hitting any colored ball and it wouldn't be a foul because as far as the shot is concerned you "already hit " the starting red you're in contact. This was a touching ball in this case so hitting the blue there is no foul.
The last shot is one of the most insane shot ever. It wasn't the most special tactical shot because it's a simple shot to nothing. But the fact that Selby spot the plant is just absolutely unbelievable
I watched it again and although he was going for a plant, I don't think he got the one he was playing for. Either way he's definitely a great player. ✌️🇦🇺
