Thank you for teaching Hawaiian and being very patient by offering repeats and repeats. I just came back from HI to NY and on the plane I met a young person who was born and raised in Honolulu, but this person did not speak and did not know any Hawaiian.
@@lilyraimey3499 Today the times have changed. It is never too late to restore the language and the culture. I want to learn Hawaiian. If only Hawaiians know how much they are appreciated by people from the other states and the other nations...

I absolutely love your videos. I am learning Hawaiian. I want to be fluent in Hawaiian. It is such a beautiful language and culture. Thank you and I hope I get to see more in the future.

My girlfriend has family in Hawaii so I am trying to learn a bit of the language and culture to expect and this is a great place to start! Also! Hello form 2021!
Aloha. O ULLA ko'u inoa. I love your tutorial channel. Thank you so much for it. Did you know that in Germany we almost pronounce the same way except for okina and the stressed sillables. This makes Hawaiian and the Hawaiian songs so fascinating for me.
I have to do a 10-13 minute presentation in my Spanish linguistic class which consists of teaching something basic to beginners, in another language(not in English or Spanish). My first presentation I did in Portuguese (BRA) so for my second and last presentation, I want to do it in Hawaiian. These videos are helpful!!Mahalo.
I just came across this and have been practicing thinking itd be one of the easiest langages to learn considering its so similar to my own, but i realised the hard part is saying ' 'o wai kou inoa' instead of 'ko wai to ingoa' its like cutting out some sounds from Maori and althpught i rmember it easy, its like a tongu twister not saying what im used to ahah
Hawaiian is so different to the languages I know. Latin, Italian, maybe a bit of Spanish, sure. But I'll try to keep going and learn it because I want to.

I know that there are many accents in Hawai'ian, but listening to you two, I noticed that your (kou) "w" is softer than I have heard before. Just was wondering if that was something to look out for in regional accent or is it word based?
@@maddy_marinebiology7772 thanks! That's the one issue I have with Duolingo. They don't always break down the little words in-between. I'm doing that in tandem with this online class
Aloha! The ʻo is a marker. It identifies the individual being talked about or the subject in a sentence, especially before names of people. And yes, kākou means we (including the person being spoken to).
I'm 4th generation kamaina, grew up in Waimanalo, married a military hauole so of course got transferred, & haven't been home since the late '90s. I have a question regarding ʻO wai kou inoa? I noticed that one of you pronounces "wai" with the V sound, but the other pronounces with the regular W sound...which should it be...W or V, or either one is ok? Mahalo in advance.
i guarantee it would just be something like Pīta, literally pronounced the same as peter except ends with ah, instead of er. My Dads english name is Peter but Pīta his name in my language.
Found my way here somehow. It's nice to see...Hear some reminders of home. Mahalo for the content!

How is this possible? It's so sad.
Mär & Maid Lyric Videos Because the Hawaiian people were stripped of their culture by colonizers. It was literally made illegal to speak the language.
