This is probably my favorite interpretation of skull island, cuz it’s packed with so much lore, detail and creatures that it makes skull island feel like a real place. The island has this otherworldly, creepy vibe to it that makes it so unique amongst the other skull islands we had before and since. I especially love the creatures and how terrifying and how inaccurate they are to science, my favorites are the V. rex, the Piranhadon, the Worm creatures and the Venatosaurus. One last thing: the art book is an awesome addition too, since it greatly expands on the island and includes way more creatures than the ones we saw in the movie, I hope they do the same thing for the monsterverse with GvK.
Wouldn’t say inaccurate. There is a ton of explanation of why they look like they do. Considering they’re dinosaurs that continued to evolve for 65 million years they are pretty plausible and not that far fetched.
Yeah I do prefer this skull island to the monsterverse mainly because actually have dinosaurs it’s just kinda something that’s should always be part of a Kong movie
Also, according to the official field guide, the 2005 remake's Skull Island literally sank when the crew visited it for the second time. And apparently, because there are too many predators on the island compared to prey, the island's ecosystem is dying even before human intervention, and the sinking of the island finally sealed their fates.
I agree, Peter Jackson's Skull island had actual monsters that were the stuff of Nightmares, Kong Skull island was cool but aside from a the skull crawlers and the mother long legs the creatures really didn't come off as terrifying or vicious
I feel like it’s the opposite but in a good way (except the terrifying part). The 2017 version feels more like an island of monsters instead of actual creatures unlike the 2005 version that feels like an actual ecosystem.
It serves as a testament to Kong's strength, intelligence, and fighting prowess that he manages to stay alive with all these mean mothers sharing his home island.
The creatures explored in this video actually represent only a small fraction of all if the magnificent animals on Peter Jackson’s skull island, there’s a rare book that details every single creature living on the island, and there are more than 100. Each creature lives in a certain area of skull island, i.e. the crumbling coast, the shrinking lowlands, the winding swamps and waterways, the steaming jungle, the abyssal chasms, and the barren uplands
We went as a family to watch it. I was like 11, my mother made us leave just when the natives started doing their thing. I didn't up watching this movie again til a few years later. That bug scene hit me hard.
4:21 I remember this music!! I'm sure it was from Walking with Dinosaurs when the episode T-rex is killed an her sons just crying beside her carcass. And then the dust storm because of the meteorite hit them and then the world is changing, evolution for a million of years. Nice choice of music, DangerVille!
The whole island is based on prehistoric animals so it would make sense. Back then the oxygen level was much higher which is why basically everything was so big, and in the island it's the same which explains why the bugs are so disgustingly big
@@sebastianmuntaner7162 that’s right. I always figured the giant trees and other plant life on the island so cramped together producing oxygen is what allowed the bugs to get so big.
That thing still bothers me to this day. Used to scare the shit out of me as a kid. I’m not scared of it anymore, yet I still can’t watch that scene in one sitting. It’s easily the most disgusting this I have ever seen. Can you imagine how bad it would smell?
I'd really love a movie around Jackson's Skull Island, it's way more realistic than that of monsterverse and feels like an actual historical ecosystem.
this is why I prefer this version of Skull Island the realism put behind the lore of these beasts, makes the island more believable that it could exist.
xeno drone i heard of a few people that had to go to therapy after watching that scene and loads of people had a phobia of bugs, my brother and I didn’t sleep for 5 days straight. That scene was pure genius.
This entire video is why 2005 Kong will forever be my favorite adaptation. There is just layers of lore, also the creatures (while super alien), also wouldn't be super out of place in a prehistoric era
I love Peter Jackson's King Kong I still watch it sometimes well there's more monsters you kind of Forgotten King Kong I well find a novelization and some art book and the King Kong video game just worth mentioning
God, 11:07 gave me ptsd like flashbacks to the first V-Rex level in the King Kong game. Fucker was a guarenteed one shot, was bullet proof, and you could only distract it by feeding it, but it all fits the reality of 2005 Kong and i loved it.
I liked how you broke down the creatures, Alastair. It’s sad how little we actually know of our planet; we know so much more about what’s off our planet than what’s on our planet. It’d be crazy to find some deep underground pockets of creatures we thought were long extinct just thriving. Our world’s full of surprises.
What's interesting is the lookbook for the film, they showcase a lot of the creatures that didn't make it into the film, but also mention the expeditions after King Kong (1933) took place, well into 1937 when the island sinks below the Indonesian coastline
Man it's such a shame how V.Rex was depicted It was so weak and useless It should've been depicted as actually being able to heavily injure Kong one on one

I love Peter Jacksons interpretation of Skull Island. I always thought it would be cool if there was an Ark/ Forest style survival game set in the Jackson version that takes place directly after the movie. The US military sends an expedition to the island years after Kongs death. The game could also show the impact the events of the movie had on the island like how the natives would have been affected by foreign diseases brought by the Americans and losing Kongs protection from the rest of the island. Many areas of the island also had massive overgrown ruins in the background that hinted at the native people having a great civilization at some point and it was never really explained.
What's really interesting is that, most of the island is underwater even in King Kong 2005. When they arrive on wooden boats at the beginning of the movie, you see stone structures and all kinds of things. It makes you wonder what Skull Island was like years before. I think by 1960, in the lore, they explained Skull Island is completely underwater and every on land animals died
There needs to be skull island survival game with all the creatures from book (world of kong), movies and just whatever creatures they can come up with! Like your part of a military crew or something gets stranded there because of a storm and forced to survive alone, customisable character, weapons and weapon and equipment creation (from the environment and creatures you kill), climbing mechanic, survival mechanics (eat, sleep warmth etc) and imagine the awesome kill cams!
Vrex my all time favorite and had a question that I’ve had in my mind after watching this film the 2005 and original skull island ended up sinking and made me wonder would the Monsterverse Skull Island suffer the same fate idk but here’s one reason why I believe it might due to the other Titans going to skull island or who knows if other Titans slumber in the island it could become unstable but it’s just my opinion.
Welp, I'm getting the following arsenal when visiting 2005 Skull Island: -Heavily armed river marine patrol boats with anti-submarine weapons or a Littoral Combat Ship carrying some of those aforementioned PT boats -Heavily armed helicopter gunships, preferably Mi-24 Minds, MH-60 Pave Hawks/Direct Action Penetrators, UH-1 Huey Gunships -Flamethrowers to deal with the creepy crawlies -Every single type of grenade in existence from fragmentation to white phosphorus -Practically every sort of firearm in existence as long as it is mag-fed, has high rate of fire and/or can deal a lot of damage
