Thanks brother! I appreciate that! I'm extremely happy with the outcome of it... Now I'm not so worried about getting engines with thrown rods so as long as they're not completely trashed I can fix them!
I use sodium hydroxide (NaOH) (drain pipe cleaner) to remove aluminum as it does not etch the steel no matter how long you keep it in there. The journal will still be nice and shiny afterwards, just rinse with water. The process i quick enough, but can be sped up tremendously by heating the solution. NaOH is just as scary as muriatic acid so take precaution.
Just curious did you plastigage it afterwards to see what the rod clearance is? Seems like you may have ground off .001 or .002 but that’s just conjecture.
Hey Tyler! I appreciate the comment my friend... I actually haven't checked the clearance as of yet. I was also concerned about the same thing so I tried to be ultra careful with the amount of pressure I was applying. I just need to get the new rod so I can plastigage it.... or a good set of micrometers lol.
i have a cb400 camshaft for +20 hp which is pretty burned because it got no oil while running.. . i wanted to throw it away but now i will do exactly what you did... thank you very much. Do you have to harden the surface afterwards? i heard they make the steel harder by heating and cooling it like a ninja sword. or will it work fine just polished?
Hi Robert! I'm glad you found my video useful! It was a heck of an experiment lol.... So in the interest of not misleading you I have not run the crankshaft since the repair. In my opinion and of others, I belive it'll be ok with the polishing only.
Just wrap a cotton cloth around the journals and soak the wrag couple times for couple hrs and whalla
Nice job buddy- I've got a similar issue with a GX140.

remember to use some light oil on your wet and dry sand paper when polishing the crank journal.

That is good to know! Thank you for that! I appreciate you taking the time to watch and comment!

Man thank so much my brother! I really appreciate that!
Is it running yet?
Thx!
Nice work it came out looking like new
Hey Brother! Yea man I'm as happy as a flea at a dog show lol.... Now I don't have to buy a new crank for my GX340! Thanks for checking it out! 🤟👍
Good job brother. Looks factory new. I don’t need one but I now want one
Hahaha What's up Large dog! Thanks for checking out my video!
Wouldn't you also have to polish the other surfaces of the crankshaft? How long did it take?
Have u run the engine yet
Nah man I haven't built the motor yet. It's all still in a box lol.

سلام رفیق آن مایع اول چه مایعی بود
Still should mic he journal to make sure it isn't out of round.
Yessir I agree! I'm gonna do that before I buy a rod.
