  • Cliff is one of three proper walls around Bonaire and the only one that doesn't require a boat or sit behind private property. At 20 - 30 feet (6 - 9 meters) and over 100 feet (30 meters) in length, it should definitely make your short list for diving. It is fully supported by Dive Friends, so renting gear and set-up couldn’t be easier.
Besides that spectacular wall, highlights include several seahorses and we caught a spotted scorpionfish gulp down a small fish. Pretty cool. Oh, and there was a roving school of blue tang, a turtle, moray eels, etc. (Yawn… ;-) Check out everything we saw!

Thank you Mark. We're probably enjoying making it a bit more; but any underwater experiences are great, right?

    Nice seahorse finds.

Thanks Jonnie. It really pays to go with a local guide who knows where they hide! :-)

Although property is private right in front of Small Wall you can easily just go slightly south of the houses, park and walk down a little path to water. But be careful, rocky entry..but worth it. Thank you so much for helping orotect the reef. Tourists may not be used to having to be so careful with coral but it's a precious and respected resource on Bonaire and carefully guarded by Stinapa. Love your videos!!

Thank you so much Patricia...both for the appreciation and Small Wall directions. :-) We will check that path and entry out. Small Wall didn't make the video list for this trip, but we will be back in June and it will be close to the top.

That is one of my favourite dive sites when arriving in Bonaire due to its easy navigation. That pipe makes everything so easy.

Indeed! Buddy's Reef has a heavy rope that does the same thing, but only goes down to 50 feet (15 meters). Not sure if you got a chance to dive that, but entrance is super easy (metal staircase) and the shallows are amazing. Happy diving!

Where did you see the Seahorses, was that in the shallower flats or at the wall?

Well, this was last year and we haven't seen them this year...which isn't to say they aren't there, just good a hiding. :-) Dive Friends is right there at Hamlet Oasis and they should have a good handle on what creatures are currently at the reef.

Sadly, I saw some photographers doing the same during my vacation in Bonaire last August. Btw...thanks for the tips on the 1000 Steps episode,

For the most part, people are respectful of the reef; but the egregious activities are very sad. Glad you found 1000 Steps informational. :-)

@@TropicLens I have over 200 dives and great buoyancy -BUT- have you considered the people doing that are new and still learning dive mechanics/coordination? We ALL were noobs at some point. You sound arrogant and annoying

You're video was fantastic! My wife and I will be trying this dive out tomorrow. What camera are you using to get such great videos?

    • @TropicLens

Thanks Amanda. Sorry for the delay. We've had a bit of a life detour these last few months, but things appear to be on track now (knock on wood) and our triumphant return to Bonaire will be in December. We hope your dives on the island were fantastic!
As for the video setup, I began using an iPhone in a SeaLife SportDiver housing and the Deep Photo app (which works for video) in early 2021. Videos prior to that (Aruba and some Curaçao videos) were shot using GoPros. Lights are Kraken Hydras. I can get into specifics (ad nauseam) if you like. :-)

Your underwater video quality is superb! Do you mind sharing what camera / gear you used to film the video? Many thanks!

Thanks! We get asked that quite a bit, so we're pulling together a video walking through the video equipment. In the meantime, here is a quick answer. I use an iPhone 12 Pro Max in a SeaLife SportDiver housing. The lights are Kraken Hydra 8000s. Also, I do not use the SeaLife SportDiver app, but a third party app called Deep Photo. Let me know if you have any questions. Hope this helps. :-)

what is your camera gear set up?

    • @TropicLens
      @TropicLens  2 роки тому

I assume you mean for the videos, but let us know if you want Leslie's photo rig information. :-) I have been asked more than a few times this year about the video camera(s) and have committed to making a video about that. We will be home in the (hopefully) snow for six weeks and will have some downtime to focus on that.
That said, the short answer is almost all of the Bonaire and Grand Cayman videos were shot with an iPhone 11 Pro Max in a SeaLife SportDiver housing using Kraken Hydra lights. For more info, stay tuned to the channel. I am aiming for early to mid-January for the camera video. Hope this helps.

Automatically thumbs downed because of the annoying preachiness for the first 15 seconds. Pretty sure the coral will be fine. And there’s a lot of new divers who aren’t good yet (i have over 200 dives, great buoyancy and don’t touch reefs, I’m just saying)

    • @FenderSchonJPX

FIFTEEN SECONDS offends you?! Sorry, but it's the easiest thing in the world to know and learn, even for snorkelers, let alone divers. The guy diving with the camera is clearly not someone who just threw on a mask and a snorkel for the first time. He has no excuse.
Of course, newbies will keep doing it, if NOBODY tells them it's wrong, so how is him spending a whopping 15 seconds to give out a PSA a bad thing?
