yea they work fast but they sacrifice quality. like this video. notice the 10 nails going into each shingle? Ive worked with some and ive also repaired a lot of their mistakes. sometimes it takes longer to take apart what they did than it does to fix the problem correctly
these boys did a fine job. sure they ripped alittle differently but than again all roofers do it differently. Its a hard job also guys, thats why you ain't ever going to see "college roofers" doing this work, they stick to painting cuase its alot easier
I don't understand why roofers rip out roofing and leave the nails. The tearoff shovel pulls nails too. I would usually consider removing tearoff and leaving nails then go back and pull all the nails , like , an unnecessary double tearoff. That seems to be mostly what people do. That technique creates more unnecessary work. It's way easier to pull the nails with the tearoff.
I love how the video says GAF starter when they're using a crappy 90 lb starter roll that's going to fish mouth and look like crap :-) hahaha well those shingles don't look like GAF to me either they look like Owens Corning
Use a roofing hoe to pull the nails lots faster, as far as Meioxacn doing it quicker I always worked them under the table but here is the kicker they show up with plenty of help so job gets done quicker. We could talk about how can they make money with that many hands working? Answer is they are willing to work for less but if they do a roof a day that might work out, but I doubt it.
+Billy Smith I'm starting a roofing position next week, what is the learning curb on a job like this? Is it technical or more so brute labor? How easy is it to apply new shingles after you have stripped the old roof? Do most jobs keep the wood base construction of the roof in tact? Any information would be helpful, thanks.
Colleen Shields Yeah colleen, thanks for asking. still at it after two months! I actually haven't even put up a full roof yet. Big jobs are for the subs. My specialty is skylight/solar-window installation. I am definitely learning a lot. Of course it's work and I would rather be sitting on the beach with a captain and coke but I do enjoy what I do and will stay with it for awhile!
I dunno how I saw that, I never read youtube comments haha bored at work. I just sell it I've never actually done it so I like to try to get a better idea of how shit works. I prefer Jack and Coke, but if I were on a beach right now I would be picky haha. Do any velux? We've been selling alot of skylights lately.
In connecticut we have alot of peurto ricans, and some mexicans...I'd hire the mexican every time.... In fact- I am extremely white, I would take a mexican even over a fellow irishman! mucho grande trabajo
I'm not a happy customer they were slobs on my roof as well as throwing stuff in my yard, sure they had a dump truck, i should uploaD WHAT I RECORDED it's hidiouse work i would not recomend these guys. I'm so pissed i cant spell right.
No doubt about what you say, but I'd take an U.S. born roofer, preferably local... over the harder working Mexican. Hard working isn't the point...these are jobs being taken from our citizens...unlawfully.
mwngw good luck finding one. I'm sorry but it rare to find that type of worker cuz they either give up after a month or make a group of their own... with illegals. I mean, you pretty much have to do this job if ur doing it.
Im glad that mentioned gaf tests weatherblocker and prostart, since you were installing all Owens corning products. Very useful.
Yes, they've been nothing but an inspiration to me!

Be safe ,hazing can be common, tends to attract a rough crowd at least in the USA .

Roofing is dangerous work. I recommend always hiring a pro.
