Johnny and "Pops" Billy Wicks were my Hybrid Shootwrestling/Catch/MMA coaches from 99-06 in North Carolina. They taught a different, very hard, grinding and dangerous style of submission and they will be missed. RIP Johnny. Thanks for sharing the video!
I went to his seminar at Ian Bromleys old club, John put me in a head scissor and put my throat in to the back of head. Still waiting for it to come back. Good times
Johnny huskey was an outstanding mma coach. 10 years ago when I was 18 he was a part of black eye promotions. I had went and sparred, did some work at their gym. Then they hosted an mma fight team tryouts in like 2011. A buddy and I tried out. Long story short. I got a phone call saying We made the "team". the caliber of training we received from him after that was remarkable. Although I couldn't continue to train shortly after due to personal reasons. Itll always be a fond memory for me. I learned he passed away. Rip coach huskey. My respects to you sir. Rest easy
Johnny was my best friend in elementary school and I had the pleasure of training with him (and Patrick) at the old Hybrid Academy in West Asheville. He was the best all around fighter I ever saw. More importantly, he was a great person. Miss you buddy.
@@ArizonaMMJ brain aneurysm on his back porch. Johnny was mastee Splinter to me since i was young. That one hurt. This video is from the same time i fought under him in Asheville. Brings back so many good memories.
they look promising but how do you set up that ball & chain position? Most guys in BJJ tucker their legs under their butt when they turtle, I'm curious as to how I'd be able to hook the leg when they turtle
@@dannymitchellmma yes Wicks I do know of, that makes sense! Sad to hear about his passing, seemed young and healthy. At least he has left his mark and inspiration for people to see here for years to come..
I hope you will someday upload some videos on how to deal with a person who puts the mount on you what is catch wrestling answer? Catch wrestling is utterly a fascinating science

So he passed away? That’s so sad. Sorry to hear that.
It's up to us to keep these techniques alive. There's only like a few American Hook Wrestling guys left, same for the Wigan men

I trained with them Briefly in 1999 in Woodfin, good dudes.
Johnny was master Splinter to me. Miss that guy. Can only imagine the stories of johnny and patrick you have!
This man taught me my first arm bar back in 1999. Rest easy Johnny!
He taught me a cool armbar in 2011, me and my bro trained with him and he referred to us as the "diaz brothers" we took that as a high compliment 💯
Dam that double wrist lock is violent. I see the difference from the Kimura in bjj.
"Lets pair up and hurt people" going to use that one.
That was a pleasure to watch danny

Great video! Gonna clean up a lot of my submissions. Love the tweaks and great details.
Thank you for the video. Great stuff!
Wow! I love this video. I have been studying catch for a few. I love how nice his stuff is. Amazing
Many thanks for posting. This is brilliant.
Very rich and instructional video! Thanks for sharing! 🙏🏻✌🏻👏🏻
Nice one Danny. Love me some catch 👍🏿
Wow!!! The man was a fountain of knowledge
This is great.
Parabéns muito Bom
This guy is the truth
Amazing moves
Awesome, thank you!
RIP Johnny and Ian.
How did he die?
@@ArizonaMMJ Dunno about Johnny but Ian took his own life I know that much!

@@ArizonaMMJ I know, but that's not a big secret you can Google "Ian Bromley death" and it will give you his autopsy report too!

Those 3 moves at 24:22 (especially the Achilles Lock) are nasty

Did he make any instructionals?
What is his background/ who did he learn from? Very smooth and has the leverage down to a science.
I believe he learnt from a guy called Billy Wicks who was a catch wrestling champion you can look up! Johnny is sadly no longer with us

I went to this seminar in Manchester, Johnny was the best grappler I ever met. Do you have more content?
I dont have anything else from Johnny but i have lots of other catch stuff to upload!
I hope you will someday upload some videos on how to deal with a person who puts the mount on you
what is catch wrestling answer?
Catch wrestling is utterly a fascinating science
Never heard of this guy. Who did he get his catch form?
He was coached by Billy Wicks
Is there a catchwrestler in the philippines?
Not that I know of, but you can learn alot from youtube if you can find a good partner to train with!
As técnicas são boas, porém o cara ensina machucando o parceiro
why does everything look so rough in catch? I guess that's the style
for real, he didn't need to be so rough with those leg locks thats dangerous
I thought in catch wrestling that back on the mat means game over. Why would you work for a sub in this position
Depends who's rules you're playing with.
I believe it was mainly for a grappling/MMA audience, not a catch wrestling one
Im pretty sure if you practice the techniques tje way he demonstrates them youll have a short grappling career
Don’t tap - it’s not a move…
That guys arm is gonna need a lot of pain meds
Wow, thank you for this. Absolutely amazing.
