This just unlocked a memory from elementary school. We all gathered in the library, the librarian rolled in the cart with the TV and VCR, and we all sat on little pillows on the floor and watched this movie. Then, after it was over, we had a discussion.
Same! I’m watching this as an adult for the first time an I’ve been bawling my eyes out 😭 I remember watching this every year in elementary school and I grew up in Memphis, TN too so we got to take field trips to the civil rights museum here downtown
I went to pre school in Harlem and my entire kindergarten class watched this in the cafeteria during recess. I specifically remember the dog chase scene.
First time watching this as an adult and I am left emotional. I am more touched by this film than I ever was when I watched this as a child. #ForeverKing
Well, I'm 14 so I'd think it was 2006 or 2008 or 2009 or something but I remember being at elementary and watching this every martin luther king day. But I'm in High School now, so I guess things have changed. East Arcadia School was my school, gave me so many memories
Happy MLK Day 2019! Once more I keep my tradition of watching this amazing and deep movie to celebrate the life of the man who taught us to not judge people by the color of their skin but by the content of their character. R.I.P Martin..
I'm 28 and not ashamed to say I still LOVE and watch this movie. Those 60s was one screwed up decade. Dr. King had balls of Titanium steel to do what he did because I know I could never have the courage to stand up like he did.
60's? don't you mean the 1920's,30,s 40,s,50's and 60's. those were all screwed up decades, the 70's was when things started to finally change thanks to MLK and other civil right activists.
I come back to watch this movie every year for MLK Jr. day because it has such a strong and beautiful message, thank you Martin for making the world a better place, Happy Martin Luther King Jr. day!
It did make me cry. It was my cery first instance of dramatic irony. While the viewers and miles knew martin would die, martin chose to return to fulfill his destiny. That in and of itself is already a sad plot- sscrificing yourself for the betterment of rleveryone else- but unleash it on a first grader for the first time and you get many real tears fast.
Wow I remember watching this movie every year in Elementary I was very fascinated with MLK and his life as a kid. I remember reading every book in my school library about him. Also one of my teachers marched with him and she attended his funeral and showed us footage she had of his funeral on a VHS tape (it was impressive because we didn’t have UA-cam back then) and she bought the obituary she had to class to let us see it.
My sophomore high school principal actually met and shook Dr. King‘s hand when he was a young man every Martin Luther King Jr. day he would regale with the tale of how he met Dr. King and I could hear the pride in his voice that he got to meet such a great man
We’ve been watching it in my school since 2nd grade and we watched it again in 3rd grade then 4th grade and now I am in 5th grade I assume we will watch it the next Martin Luther long week
I originally wasn't going to get shown this until my UA teacher showed it to me, although she couldn't finish it at all since we only have like 20 or 30 minutes in her class, maybe 40 or 50
This had to come out before 1999, because I was in kindergarten in 96, and I 100% remember watching this in the auditorium along with other kindergarten classes.
That moment when martin goes back to his own time and then suddenly that gunshot is heard gave me chills the first time i saw this movie, it made me feel so sad because miles just wanted to save him. And man, rewatching it again still gives me those chills. It's such a tragedy that martin luther king jr's life was taken away at a young age. He was a true human who all he ever wanted was for everyone to be seen as equals, to show that even if we are different on the outside by skin color, on the inside we are the same… we are human beings. Sadly racism is still strong till this day. It may be a horrible reality we are all living in, but that doesn’t mean we can’t do something about it. We can take action to protect those who suffer this cruel form of hatred.
It's that time of the year again. I've seen people criticize this movie for being unrealistic, but I still feel like this movie has a strong message told in a powerful way. Happy MLK day!
Elementary memorabilia right here. This pops up in my recommended every year for Martin bday. Legit love this movie so much man. I really wish we could come together man it’s truly heart breaking. RIP MLK.
just sat down with my son and watched this. I loved this movie when I was a little girl and I'm so glad that my son can enjoy it too ! Happy MLKD 2017 ❤
I genuinely love this movie for being my first introduction to Dr. King's work. I think I was 5 or 6 when I was shown this movie in kindergarten on Martin Luther King day. I'll be real, I'm white and I was clueless about racism. I had received such a powerful lesson of empathy for others from this movie. I was so moved that I genuinely thought Martin Luther King ended racism. If only it were been that simple. If only everyone had heard King's speeches and heard he was speaking God's truths. If only he were never assassinated. Martin Luther King Jr. is one of my heroes, not only as a cultural but a spiritual leader for his time. If I ever was to lead a movement, I would take some serious notes from Dr. King's book. He may have died too soon but his message of peace overcoming all conflict lives on in the generations of children who came after him that learn the importance of his work in the Civil Rights movement.
I remember watching this every year in elementary and having discussions after we watched it. I am now 26 and think about it every MLK day and finally actually Googled it to make sure it wasn't a fever dream because no one in my current town remembers it. Going to watch it again for old time's sake.
I'm a boy from Brazil and even though our cultures are very different, Dr. King's message of love is universal and this simple animation is a great demonstration of the importance of his attitudes.

Most of us still do, but political polarization post-COVID, as well as a horrendous 2016-2020 presidency combined with increasing political extremism and religious violence, particularly by MAGA, has everyone’s mental health sinking below the sea. We should know better by now, all of us…!

😢 He.... They tried to show him what he did, but because of time travel..... He had to stay in his time to save so many.... But evil took him... Wonder (in the movie sence)he probably knew what that boy was gonna say. Makes him more a hero, knew he would die, but fulfilled his destiny & made a better world than he left behind
I'm so glad I could find this movie! I remember watching it in elementary school and it always stuck with me. So much so that my own daughter is now in kindergarten, and I'm showing her the movie on Monday. 💖
I've never seen this. thank you for sharing this video my daughter's 8 years old and she loves history. and lately she's shown great interest in Martin Luther king along with Nelson Mandela. I will be showing this to her after school today thanks again
Wowww my dumb elementary school did not deserve such a cinematic masterpiece 😭😭😭 the final scene when kid Martin walks into his home, knowing his fate but still willing to make that sacrifice for the betterment of the future, was toooo deep for me to appreciate 😭🔥🔥🔥
I think the moral it was trying to give is: "You can't change the past without disastrous results, so instead try to focus on changing the future by spreading love and kindness"
Instead of changing history, learn from it and never repeat it, strive to be better, try to be more than what others might and will believe. Pass on what needs to be remembered, and do it with a strong heart, a wise mind, and a kind smile.
Yup. Funny thing is that it had a lot of big name voices for a str8 to VHS movie. I didn't even know that John Travolta and Lucas Black played in this movie until later. LOL
I have always liked Martin Luther King Jr. History became one of my favorite subjects because by seeing the problems and needless wars and brutality people cause to each other, history has inspired me to make a point and change others perspectives on our brothers and sisters no matter where they hail from. Freedom is worth protecting, even at the cost of my life.
I watched this for the first time in 3rd grade. I thought (still think) it was a great and powerful movie with a strong and influential message. Although I'm sort of disgusted by all the racism here in the comment section.
@@croc__ravenger4249it's not like 9/11 was happening everyday, those times were simple, and better than the world we live in now, with all this social media woke bs.

Awww memories... this brings me back a long time when I was a kid watch that movie back at elementary school it was a very good movie I sure do miss it in the old days
I watched this at school today and I want to watch over and over because it’s helpful for me and it teaches me you don’t have to be white to go here go there you don’t have to be black to go here or go there because now Because if MLK, he has changed things so black and white people can unite together and not have to be separate. I’m sad that he died, but he’ll always be with us if we just think about what he did to make things right.❤️
Happy Martin Luther King Day 2021. I remember my social studies teacher showing us this movie in 5th grade. As a white man, Dr. King is inspirational and admirable to me. There is only one race, the human race. We are here on earth and we all have unique but relatable experiences.
My great grandma worked with Martin Luther king but she’s dead obviously I never got to met her! 💕🤗but I’m glad she’s with Martin Luther king in heaven with her friends 👫

Same, I can’t recall when the last I watched it was…but I think it was in elementary, i think a few weeks ago…the end titles song started playing in my head. It’s the end titles song that I remember the most.
I watch this movie every year. I was born Jan 18, the week of Martin Luther King’s birthday, and I was shown this in class in elementary and it stuck with me ever since. It shows a dark history of America, but it also shows how people strived (and continue to strive) for a better America where people are equal.

Wonder (in the movie sence)he probably knew what that boy was gonna say. Makes him more a hero, knew he would die, but fulfilled his destiny & made a better world than he left behind
rest in peace Martin Luther King Jr
I'm so glad I could find this movie! I remember watching it in elementary school and it always stuck with me. So much so that my own daughter is now in kindergarten, and I'm showing her the movie on Monday. 💖

I have a dream that little black boys and little black girls can join hands with little white boys and little white girls
- Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
I cry at that even though I know what happens
Fr
"you keep hanging with them colored's, the only hanging you'll be doing is from a TREE" that always stuck with me smh .
Zymir P same. I never realized it as a child but now that I'm older that hurts.

This movie came out when I was 10. I'm 30 now and this is my first time watching it. I wish I had seen it sooner.

@@suunaamidayz4267 Read my comment again. I said the MOVIE. Not this video. The movie itself came out in 1999.
@@NefariousDreary WELL DANG I MESSED UP sOrRi. JEEZ
@@suunaamidayz4267 🤣🤣🤣 I forgive you
Kray Kray wow u replied- after TWO years woah
This movie made me learn a valuable lesson. If you alter the past, it will affect the future. No matter what you do, never change history.
Nah
I think the moral it was trying to give is: "You can't change the past without disastrous results, so instead try to focus on changing the future by spreading love and kindness"
Instead of changing history, learn from it and never repeat it, strive to be better, try to be more than what others might and will believe.
Pass on what needs to be remembered, and do it with a strong heart, a wise mind, and a kind smile.
yeah joey i'll remember this moral next time i go back to back in time to 1941
Thank the lord for this comment, I was about to rewrite history to make hitler gay. Would’ve truly been a travesty.
This movie is too underrated
Ikr
Yup. Funny thing is that it had a lot of big name voices for a str8 to VHS movie. I didn't even know that John Travolta and Lucas Black played in this movie until later. LOL
Ikr! The parts with the KKK are the best!
Siope Dude ur racist
Yeah it is
My daughter watched this in2016&2017!!🙏🏻🙏🏻
I have always liked Martin Luther King Jr. History became one of my favorite subjects because by seeing the problems and needless wars and brutality people cause to each other, history has inspired me to make a point and change others perspectives on our brothers and sisters no matter where they hail from. Freedom is worth protecting, even at the cost of my life.
Born in 1994 and I remember watching this every year in Elementary School.
They are lucky to touch Martin's hand. They are lucky to talk to Martin. They are lucky they visited the past. They are lucky they did all that. 💕
I watched this for the first time in 3rd grade. I thought (still think) it was a great and powerful movie with a strong and influential message. Although I'm sort of disgusted by all the racism here in the comment section.
Same here

@@croc__ravenger4249it's not like 9/11 was happening everyday, those times were simple, and better than the world we live in now, with all this social media woke bs.
I used to watch this when I was a kid in elementary school. I thought I'd watch this movie this year for a special treat for MLK day, and a blast of nostalgia
Thanks for keeping Dr. Kings dream alive...

I watched this countless times in elementary school
Im 15
Awww memories... this brings me back a long time when I was a kid watch that movie back at elementary school it was a very good movie I sure do miss it in the old days
Saw this in first grade in 2001 those Birmingham images man can't get over them.
I watched this at school today and I want to watch over and over because it’s helpful for me and it teaches me you don’t have to be white to go here go there you don’t have to be black to go here or go there because now Because if MLK, he has changed things so black and white people can unite together and not have to be separate. I’m sad that he died, but he’ll always be with us if we just think about what he did to make things right.❤️
Me 2
What grade are you in?? Cuz I saw this in the 1st grade lol
I wish he was here
Happy Martin Luther King Day 2021. I remember my social studies teacher showing us this movie in 5th grade. As a white man, Dr. King is inspirational and admirable to me. There is only one race, the human race. We are here on earth and we all have unique but relatable experiences.
I remember watching this movie at elementary school in the early 2000's when I was in the 1st grade, 3rd grade, and 5th grade.
My great grandma worked with Martin Luther king but she’s dead obviously I never got to met her! 💕🤗but I’m glad she’s with Martin Luther king in heaven with her friends 👫
For real 😮
awww thats nice she mustve been good
But Princess, serial adulterer's aren't allowed into Heaven; it clearly says so in the BIBLE. www.ibtimes.com/martin-luther-king-cheated-his-wife-other-lesser-known-facts-about-civil-rights-1028976
Princess Anayah when you pass away, you sure are going to heaven for sure. You are a good girl. I might go to hell.
Whoa
My college classes are canceled today and I'm spending the day remembering Dr. King 💜
Lynn Talbot
Cancelled? Classes were never scheduled at least not for me
That's because you are a credit to your race keep humanity in your heart for all good people no matter who. I r what and wicked is wicked Happy MLK
Martin and others risked their own lives for us all. True the hatred still continues, but we live in a better world.
If you’re in high school now YOU KNOW HOW NOSTALGIC THIS IS!!! 😂😂🫶🏼🫶🏼🫶🏼
Yesss
Definitely
Highschool?! Lol try me being 23 and still watching it lol i love the nostalgia
Yessir
So would you say its not age-appropriate for a child age 7 that has not knowledge of such past diversity
I haven't watched this movie in probably 20 years. I'll watch it when i get home later to relive some nostalgia
Same, I can’t recall when the last I watched it was…but I think it was in elementary, i think a few weeks ago…the end titles song started playing in my head. It’s the end titles song that I remember the most.
Remembering this inspirational hero today!

Martin Luther King Jr. true role model :)
Thanks to Martin Luther king We are not treated differently just because our skin color may he Rest In Peace 🙏
At least not as bad as before.
i saw this in 2 grade and in 1grade i cant bleave this is still on you tube wow
I watch this movie every year. I was born Jan 18, the week of Martin Luther King’s birthday, and I was shown this in class in elementary and it stuck with me ever since. It shows a dark history of America, but it also shows how people strived (and continue to strive) for a better America where people are equal.
Ah my childhood memories, I watch this cartoon movie back at my school. (Our friend martin) 🤗
