Coordination Meeting for Tribal Status of Left-Out Communities Concludes: Joint Action Committee Formed
Siliguri: The much-anticipated coordination meeting to address the demand for Tribal Status for the left-out communities of Sikkim and the Darjeeling Hills of West Bengal concluded with a significant outcome. The Sikkim Government, along with the leadership from West Bengal (Darjeeling Hills), has officially constituted a “Joint Action Committee” (JAC) to take forward the cause of Tribal Status for these communities.
The meeting, chaired by Sikkim Chief Minister PS Tamang, brought together prominent leaders, including Lok Sabha MP Indra Hang Subba, Rajya Sabha MP DT Lepcha, and other MLAs and ministers from Sikkim, as well as Darjeeling MP Raju Bista, Kalchini MLA Bishal Lama, and Darjeeling MLA Niraj Zimba. Representatives of various left-out communities from both states were also present.
Chief Minister PS Tamang announced that the “Joint Action Committee” will consist of 10 members, with 5 representatives each from Sikkim and West Bengal. This committee will spearhead the efforts to secure Tribal Status for the left-out communities in both states.
Furthermore, the Joint Action Committee will be tasked with forming an expert team to work on an ethnographic survey, which is crucial for substantiating the demand for Tribal Status. The findings of this survey will be compiled into a report that will be presented to the Parliament, pushing the case for recognition of the communities as Scheduled Tribes.

Sir... please think about the happiness of our own state.Peace and justice & charity starts from home itself.if we visit the past...the same act created great turmoil during Hon'ble Bhandari tenure.
Rather than that... issues of education, salary and health is a priority in state.
Education is becoming expensive...even migration certificates once costing Rs100 costs Rs 450 now . Registration for 12th or 10th used to cost 1500 now it is 2500.So ,govt. Education is getting expensive.
Are we still proudly saying education is inclusive?
Road taxes are being raised enormously.
Unregulated govt.jobs are creating a burden on state exchequer hurting villages at the end bound to pay higher taxi fares .I don't know...but we say we enjoy Income tax free rights under section 10( 26AAA) under Income Tax Act.But I feel...this is being negated by all sorts of taxes being forced on us .The union too has raised import duty on a number of products.Simple edible oil costs 190 now which were 150.
We Sikkimese are being double taxed😅.
All the existing taxes are REGRESSIVE hurting middle and poor class.Its High time we proceed towards PROGRESSIVE taxation.❤

We have a huge respect for sikkim CM Mr. Goley sir🙏 but we've a question to sikkim CM sir that If it is so then why the tribals of Darjeeling and kalimpong who r settled in sikkim r catogories as GENERAL in SIkkim???????
Selfishness and hypocrisy shouldn't be there if both the states r fighting for the same cause together.....this question should be asked frequently to the politicians of Sikkim.........
With due respect...we as Tribals in Sikkim too are treated as general in other states such as Bihar. We cannot go and avail tribal rights in other states.As far as possible... tribal rights are state specific.How ever constitution does recognise the tribal rights in totality..such as Art 342 ,Art 14 ,15, 15(6)& 16(6) and schedule areas ..
@@tshringlepcha8288 the article 342 u've mentioned dosent specify the restrictions towards the non-coi holder to have the sc or st certificate in the state of sikkim. And the article 14,15, 16 (6) also dosent conclude over putting restrictions on such....it extends the power to the state to impose laws regarding the modification to which the state ammends.....
So my question is, y giving sc and St certificate to the people of the same category or community is restricted in sikkim, as the sikkemese laws restricts non coi holder of having a sikkim government job??? It is accepted that non coi shouldn't be the part of government organization, but there is already a big restrictions in job then what is the purpose of not giving SC or st certificate to the people of Darjeeling and kalimpong who resides in SIKKIM since long, and r not asking for a st sc certificate to avail sikkim government jobs??
Sikkim government will not loose any sc st facilities or will have to bare any misfortune by providing sc st certificate to the non coi holder as state already have restrictions on sikkim Government jobs. So what makes sikkim to be so uncomfortable giving certificates of st and sc to the people of Darjeeling and kalimpong who r in sikkim for over 40 years??????

@@luvall293 ....as far as possible...a nomination for entitlement of ST/SC is being sought from states first.And yes,as you said Central list doesn't discriminate on reservation as per articles mentioned.The details of ethnicity as well as research is too being sought from the concerned state and it's up to President to decide who can or cannot be guaranteed a ST/SC status vis-a-vis the research submitted.
Sikkim is being concerned about the STs of its own jurisdiction.
If people from Kalimpong and Darjeeling wants ST status then a govt of West Bengal should be the first to take step and pursue that goal. If that is the case...We Lepchas are PVTG under state Sikkim how can we go and demand a govt of Madhya Pradesh to recognise us as PVTG at their own State?.They will outrightly decline saying it's a matter of Sikkim.As for the selfishness and hypocrisy is concerned..our Sikkim govt.is more inclusive.Even women tribals from Kalimpong and Darjeeling married to a Sikkimese man can avail all the rights as a Sikkimese through his documents even when 5 bench judge under Hon'ble Rajan Gogoi declined such acts.Unlike them a Sikkimese woman has to surrender all our tribals rights when married to Kalimpong and Darjeeling.So to say still "general" in 40 years is not justified when so many women from your region are enjoying great deal of rights here.
How ever...you are right in your own stand.
When I think of Old settlers Case.... where Indian Sikkimese were able to enjoy a hoard of rights ...why not the people as you mentioned?.

I think Chettri and bhaun are not Tribal they are related to hindu caste.
Tribals should be tribes like Rai, Limboo, Mangar, Gurung, Tamang etc.

Bro scheduled tribe is not about the older caste system
Scheduled tribe refers to the indigenous people of that place and as much as I am aware chettri bahun are indigenous too
why? because the jaunsari brahmins of uttarakhand are given the tribal status in later 90s , caste system should not play an important role in this as many people of this community are also backwards, and their way of living is almost identical to all other tribals especially chhetri people.
