Just like ep 8, this episode proves that Mark biggest strength is his perseverance againts all odds, even when Cecil give him an easy exit to just lie and say yes, Mark just cannot bring himself to "conquer earth" because that would be accepting he is what is father wanted him to be in season 1.
Which, when you think about Angstrom Levy, his memories are hundreds of alternate versions of himself whose friends and families were killed in dimension where Mark did accept it, makes the most ironic that he's going againts the one who didn't accept it and is actively trying to not to become a conqueror, even if that means getting beaten to a pulp.
