    Set down your phone and it charges. Feels like the future! What simple little tech (such as this) has you thinking "Wow, that seems like something from 80's sci-fi"?

      "Better" is relative, but yes; space charging is INSANE. I'm a little afraid of it, if I'm honest. Not like "conspiracy theory" level, but the thought of wireless charging being able to pulse through my body is a little freaky -- way into the future. I think it's the next step though. Think about sitting on the subway and your phone just charging while you watch a video on UA-cam. That's definitely something from 80's sci-fi. Well spotted!

      How do I find out if my MikroTik router is part of the DDOS attack on Yandex? The report I watched said the attack is coming from a botnet composed mostly of infected MikroTik routers.

      I bought a wireless charging receiver ahead of my port breaking. I would suggest you buy one and install it into your new phone. It will protect your port by always being plugged in.

    it is recommended to use plastic case since the receivers can heat up? wouldnt the plastic melt? unless it doesnt get hot enough to melt the plastic case

    Can a magnetic ring be added to the phone case and use magsafe accessories like the charging banks?

  • @TomNimitz

    Interesting gadget. I would be cautious of the heat generated. If a metal case acts like a heat sink and is uncomfortable to the touch, replacing it with a plastic (effectively insulated) case would significantly limit heat dissipation. The result would be heat concentrated against the back of the phone, millimeters away from the lithium battery. Does not sound like a good idea to me.

    Robbie, Did you add fast charging to your pocophone? What card/stand did you get?

    • @LinuxTechShow
      @LinuxTechShow  2 роки тому +1

      I sure did, Bryan!
      The specific one I got here in Canada is: www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B081RJ7LV5/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o07_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1
      I couldn't find it on Amazon.com but here's a link to compatible products: amzn.to/3jYWmGK
      The receiver I went with is this: amzn.to/3zWmZ4O
      Seems to work great! I love the convenience. I simply have the charging pad plugged into my monitor's USB port for now, and it works perfectly. I might get a wall wart to be able to set it on a side table or something.
      With the PocoPhone F1, the wireless charging receiver extends a LITTLE bit over the finger sensor. The sensor still works, but I might actually cut a round section out of the wireless charging receiver to accommodate (which you can do because that section of the receiver is not active; just fabric).
      An incidental side effect that I never thought of when doing this: My USB-C port is always covered now. No more dust getting in!
      Thanks for watching and commenting!

      @@BryanWithage so glad to hear it. I'm REALLY digging no longer having to have USB-C cables at all my workstations. I also got a lamp whose base has QI, so when I get home I set the phone down on the lamp and it charges. Too cool.

    What about if I want to charge it against magnetic wireless car charger? Will it stick to the magnet?

    • @incubus_the_man
      @incubus_the_man 9 місяців тому

      That's the idea. You need to have the receiver inside a phone case, that way it will hold the phone to the magnet.

    • @LinuxTechShow
      @LinuxTechShow  Рік тому

      You'll need to get the port fixed first. Raises a good point that by switching to wireless, you're less likely to break the port.

    Wireless chargers waste a ton of power if you care about the environment, something like 40-80% depending on the charger. Plus wires are much faster, my current phone charges at 40W and the new one I'm waiting for charges at 120W. Good luck finding a charger that can do half of that! The only time I use wireless charging is in the car since it generates its own power.

    • @RedBeardMachine
      @RedBeardMachine 2 роки тому +1

      In reality, your car doesn't generate its own power any more than a generator does for your home. You can't care for the environment and use a wireless charger as you say you do... But what you say is true. Inductive power transfer is wasteful.

    • @LinuxTechShow

      I like the way you think! Yes, keep in mind these are USB ... standard connections. No, sadly it wouldn't power up my Pi Zero ... I think it might be more of a pulse than consistent power. I'll add a battery to see if the QI can keep up with draw. Meantime, yes, Arduino part vendors have the parts available to DIY a receiver, or you can feel free to disassemble one of these ... It's just a 5-9V power output so pretty easy to hack up. 😁
