On the pitch Mario and Leon are teammates, off the pitch they are becoming so much more.
When Leon joins Mario’s football club ,the pair are moved into a flat with one another where the competitive tension turns sexual. As their relationship intensifies, the pair become inseparable, yet Mario is desperate to hide their love from his teammates. As rumours of their relationship begin to circulate, the boys are forced to make a choice; their careers, or each other. A forbidden story of romance between two football players, Mario shines a light on the pressures put upon footballers, managers and associates alike to keep quiet about players who identify as gay in favour of preserving their careers.

It was a sad ending.
Mom had my back when I came out in 2001, As she did with my brother! It meant the world to us! I was ready to move and leave my family forever just to be myself. Then Mom swooped in and made sure I was taken care of. So lucky, some of my friends, not so much. 😢😢
After raising two alpha males my parents were secretly delighted when they realized their youngest was gay. Not overly protective, they encouraged my being different and made sure I knew the other gay men in the community. Their attitude: Anybody can be straight. It's common. But being different makes life interesting for everybody.
At first I liked Leon.... but I end up loving Mario's character, heart and intellect. He reminds me of many of my friends that plays Sports that can't be openly gay. It sucks that society would judge you on the field for what you do in the bedroom when you're gay but turn their head when you're straight...

catch the full movie.. one of the best... when Leon strokes Mario's arm when they sleeping...Marios twitchting from stress, just vanishes... beautifully written and acted. The boys love scenes are HAF as well, kudos to the actors.... some fun interviews on line, talk about they didnt hear the director call "cut" and the actors so wanted a good scene, they were so 'into' getting it right, they carried on making out after "cut" was called.
As amny are asking, it so needs a sequel, they find each other again, make good, and mayb Mario comes out to his team... and just mayb this could be the VERY FIRST soccer story of boy love acceptance.... a mile stone for 2020 - challenge set !
The big question will they do Mario 2 ?

If - in real life - between then and now, a actual soccer player came out, that would change everything - they would make it in 6 weeks and get it in every cinema... I dont think Mario (2018) even got National cinema release anywhere - ANYWHERE, in Sweden I believe it had a 'limited' release

CMBYN got loads of press (mayb due to the age thing, but still got press) and the that helped Gods Own Country that came-out (no punn) soon after, get lots press too -even though some idiots kept calling Gods Own C a remake of that crappy Brookback Mtn movie of a few years back -
Gods own country is also beautiful (with happy ending - they had to give us one!!)... Momment in the Reeds is also good - nice flip/flop scenes, and one of actors actually a gay man.... Brings me to 1985, made in 2019.. 1985 will have anyone crying... its wonderful.. again a real life gay man taking the lead - kudos filmakers... more please.
Ill close with Sauvage (gay actor again), and Theo&Hugo (19 minutes of hard porn) then a beautiful story of relationship and desire... kudos to the actors.. that 19 minutes is true dedication to your art.
btw - I love LGBTQ+ movies.. have LOADS ... spent a fortune !

@@peccadillopics thank you, but I very much doubt the 'gay community' (of which I am), has anything to do with sequels.... just hope the ppl in power do realise how important this all is, and well made LGBTQ+ movies, do get conversations going.
"The Str8s" wont go see Theo&Hugo, 'cos of the D&Ass, hopefully, CMBYN and Gods Own C, Love-Simon, did get a wider viewing, and get ppl talking, we need to see our love lives are just that, two ppl in love. Not beatings / hate / death / or even self loathing.
The Velvet Rage is an excellent book, all gay men might find enlightening - I certainly did.
CMBYN (2) is in production (we are told), personally I wasn't a fan, I think the age/'grooming' presentation didnt help - if memory serves, was it 34 Vs 17yrs - legal, yes... but still... eew

@@were-all-human9427 -- In Call Me By Your Name, the graduate student is supposed to be 23 or 24 years old, but they cast 32-year-old Armie Hammer for the role. I think this was a huge mistake in that he is too old and too tall for the character as described in the book. This no doubt added to the "cringe factor." The 2 lead characters should not seem so far apart in age. However, in the book, the youth was depicted as even younger -- 15 or 16 years old as I recall. He was advanced to 17 years old in the movie to lessen the claims of pedo grooming. Not sure if that was successful though. 😒

Pour Mario, le football est trop important et il est prêt de continuer à cacher sa homosexualité, tandis que Leon ne peut plus supporter l’homophobie dans le club de football et le fait que Mario refuse d’être avec lui en publique, et donc Leon quitte l’équipe et rentre en Allemagne
