Christine and Ingrid Jensen w/ Ben Monder
For many Jazz lovers, sisters Christine and Ingrid Jensen represent the pinnacle of creativity and virtuosity in Jazz. Montreal based Christine is now a dual Juno Award winner for her lauded large ensemble work, and older sister Ingrid is renowned in the New York Jazz scene, filling key chairs in the Grammy winning orchestras of Maria Schneider and Darcy James Argue.
This recording, entitled "Infinitude", features former Schneider guitarist Ben Monder, widely considered to be about the heaviest Jazz guitarist working today, and the choice of David Bowie on the monumental Blackstar album.
The three powerhouses weave a mesmerizing, irreverent web of spontaneity and soul. There is no limit to the form and contour of these original pieces, and the responsive solos are at once completely novel, and somehow agelessly familiar.
This is the true test of inventiveness, can something absolutely new sound familiar? The answer is yes. It is as if we have heard these pieces before, unusual cadences and turns of form sound completely right, jagged and bold lines are tender and well placed.
The three are joined by Montreal bassist Fraser Hollins, stalwart collaborator of Christine Jensen and her husband and fellow Juno winner Joel Miller. Drum chair is filled by Ingrid's husband Jon Wikan, and the red carpet is laid.
Hats off to these artists, it is rare in today's world that we encounter something so purely based on ideas of excellence, of truth. The work here is of this high order, eschewing all trappings of ego, tapping a deep well of energy reserved only for the forthright. Thank you to the artists for serving up such a genuine work, and for allowing me to film its creation.
Infinitude launches in Canada & the World (ex USA) Oct 28
(USA date to come)

No trumpet player like Ingrid, now. The best.
WIth Roy Hargrove gone, I have to agree. There is a cat in Havana, named Mayquel Gonzalez, who has the same genius.
Elevated. Elevating. Wonderful.
Masters showing us how it’s done!
Such a clear, precise trumpet tone across all registers. Wow!
Ingrid is a master on the trumpet. Bless her soul and allowing us to listen to her musical intuition!
amazing, ingrid solos always on fire and hell I like the video footage and editing skill
Great Music!!!!
beautiful...
So many beautiful voices. Every player lends their own personal and unique voice.
I do not know them, but I can almost hear Christine and Ingrid growing up together; playing for/off/to each other at home - with their folks and lucky neighbors listening and chiming in!
What a counter/catalyst Ben Monder is in this setting.
Drums and Bass breathing with them all.
So much good in such a short piece.
Spectacular!! thank you for this beautiful music
Lovely song, breath-taking musicianship on the part of all, and trumpet and guitar concepts that, till now, were, beautifully and uniquely, unimaginable if ever even dreamed of. Thank you for posting this work of art.
Ha! It takes a sista. There is SO MUCH room for listenable avante guard music. This really nails it. Note!!!! The drums are down in the mix. The soundscape here is quite enjoyable and not overly demanding. There is waaaay too much easy listening jazz on YT with the alternative being jazz music with the snare drum beating your brains out. Why is it so hard for musicians, engineers and producers to understand this? Give us good Jazz music like THIS that is listenable. FINALLY someone getting it right
Simon, this track is pretty strait ahead music, not really avante guard music. The drums are probably low in the mix because I was playing soft. At least until the 6 minute range, then not a bad drum mix? At least on a laptop. Another problem is on you tube and mp3 uploads/downloads a lot of drum (and other) information is lost because about 70% of the data has been cut out depending on how it was encoded.
It's so sad that this level musicianship gets so few viewd. However I am thankful that I found it.
man..Ingrid is an awesome trumpet player.
Fantastic ❤
Sweet!!!!!!!! 😀
Dang, I didn't know Christine Jensen for her sax playing, just her big band. Her voice on alto is awesome.

Lol at the 10k trumpet with a stone lined cup mute. Dig the sound blend with the alto. Mello!
Ahi nama.
Ingrid Jensen kinda looks like Diana Krall.
That's what all Canadian women look like 😂
weather report
Not even close
I play trumpet ... but not like her. Wow.
Oh Ingrid you’re as much of a joke trumpet player now as you were when you came to Mansfield University of Pennsylvania.
grässlich modern ummelodiös - dadldadladlaliii - - soll wohl jazzzig sein - weit gefehlt !!
Was ist jazzig, Florian Silbereisen, oder Roberto Blanko????
Whuuuuuu??
