  • A man named John Openshaw visits Holmes with a strange story. His uncle Elias, a reclusive man, received a letter with five orange pips and burned some papers before his death, ruled a suicide. Later, Elias's brother Joseph (John's father) received a similar letter, followed by his death, deemed an accident. Now, John has received a similar letter. Holmes deduces that Elias fled to England from the U.S. due to threats, and the letters are linked to the Ku Klux Klan. Holmes sends clues to a ship possibly involved, but it is destroyed, leaving no justice for the murders.
Story from Arthur Conan Doyle - The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes in 1891.
